The WKII Bushcraft has a full flat ground 52-100 carbon steel blade with a drop point profile that is black Caswell coated. The handle is full-tang with scales that are expertly contoured and solid in hand. The tang extends past the scales to end in a breaker pommel. Includes an ambidextrous leather covered Kydex sheath.
Daniel Winkler has been making knives full time since 1988 and has more recently started the Winkler Knives II product line after working with the Special Forces Teams in the United States Military and Allied Forces from around the world. The knives and axes in the WKII Collection are all custom made in his shop. The WKII product line are created through the stock removal process instead of being hand forged. The Winker Knives II line utilizes the same standards of excellence in craftsmanship as his hand forged work and they are born of Warriors' experience.

I really don't understand why people criticize the price of custom and handmade knives. How much would you charge for something you put hour upon hour of work into after years of perfecting your skills. These are not pieces you can walk into a sporting goods store and pick up, they are made by small outfits of craftsman putting together beautiful pieces of functional art from start to finish. The stories, legacies, pride and passion of each maker goes into each piece, without owning one or having experienced one, there's no way to understand how much of a difference this really makes. Yes a 20$ knife works, most people will never even use a cheap knife to its full potential. For most people there is no reason or need to ever own a custom knife, but to people who are interested and passionate about their cutting tools and appreciate fine craftsmanship it makes a world of difference.

In regard to the price, part of what you are paying for is Mr. Winkler's time. This guy is a Master Smith!! That means the ABS has determined that his work and designs are among the best IN THE WORLD. Also, "Bushcraft Knife" has come to mean a certain style of knife, not simply the intended function. If I were to ask you to go to the kitchen and get the "Chef's Knife" you'd probably have a good idea what I meant, and not return with a paring knife, right? Bushcraft knife, seems to mean, centerline tip, contoured handle and around 9" in overall length. It's a very general purpose design. As to this knife, I like the overall profile. It'd probably end up being my third Winkler, but it has some problems. I'd like to see it at about .15" thick or even a little thinner, tapered tang and rounded pommel. As it is, I'll keep using my Field Knife and spend the extra money on one of his Camp Axes. Thanks for posting the video, and please don't take my criticism as anything but constructive.

Does a glass breaker butt take that much away from the knife? I've used a glass breaker to smash a big peace of ice into smaller pieces that fit into my pot. Of course you could use something else for that but hey I had my knife nearby. I am sure there are other random noncombat tasks you can use the glass breaker for as well.

If your camera is going to remain stationary and you're just going to be bringing products in/out of view try switching the setting "continuous auto-focus" OFF. ;)

Yeah I know what you mean about the logo. I love BladeHQ but those knives are beautiful, they shouldn't have a distracting logo on them from the retailer.

Interesting looking knife. Resembles a BK14 from a distance. Just superficial similarities though. Speaking of Becker knives, when are you guys going to start reviewing some? They've got a great line-up.

well the fact of the matter is your skill set good knife bad knife cheap knife expensive knife and between one being bushcraft one being survival its the knife on your belt when you leave the house that matters if the poop hits the fan so rather its your bushcraft knife or your survival knife hopefully you are good enough to get done what's needed to survive its all about being prepair mors kochanski considers a smiple mora good enough for both so rather you spend a lot or a little knowing how to use the knife is what's truly important
@LUCKYB.

well yeah one of the big things is anyone can own a knife buy a knife but when it breaks right down to brass tacks how many truly know how to use a knife if it is a C Q B situation or a survival situation . the biggest thing is it is not the knife that gives a man or woman the experience . to get threw these situation and there is never a text book situation . every thing is different . for a survival tool a chunk if leaf spring steel 14 to 16 " long made from 1/4" thick X 2" wide . with a half flat grind and a tanto kind of Tip that comes to a V Differential heat treated with a saw cut into the back fashioned like a Chain saw style and a handle .. and a leather sheath out of good 10 to 12 ounce utility leather . you can use it like a pry bar use it as a saw and a chopper and as a defense took as well .. in the slot of the saw you can use it to bust wire edge it on a flat rock do anything with it .. and a Buck 110 on my hip for skinning and gutting .. but these knives like Winkler has are a investment . look how Loveless knives Became and Bill Moran . Blackie Collins .. Phil Hartsfield these are big name makers . Winkler is not small potatoes either . this early knives will fetch Big Money later on in life and when he is gone his work will also command thousands of dollars .. all I can say is I hope my work will be up there as well when I am gone .. and knife making material is not Cheap anymore the price of propane Belts and material alone call a company I refuse to do business with admiral steel just for 5160 is 3.50 per foot when it was a dollar a foot not long ago even Junk Springs isn't cheap any longer . and to be honest if a man can get Coal for forging he is better off . or even charcoal . at 14 bucks for a 40 pound bag and if you can get it bulk its better yet .. and does just a good job as black smith coal and propane and you can heat sections of your blade and not the whole blade every time he gos back into a propane forge that's the big draw back . and being over 3 bucks a pound is another ..

You are right its not the knife its the dirt time that gives you the experience and I'm not by any means putting down Winkler or his knives by any means I believe completely in carrying a quality tool understanding that yeah you can have a heavy chunk of metal a to beat the crap out of I my self currently have my 3 favorite one is the tops b.o.b and 2 BHK's the plsk1 and the pathfinder scout neither one of those are a give me and are also an investment but so is the b.o.b with I carry the most and is a third the money but I also know I can trust my life to it I have batoned tree's down with it and still hair shaving sharp and I also have a Mora bushcraft black and for the money is an incredible tool and I also understand the investment aspect was an auto tech for near 20 year's I know very well what tool's cost my snap on box alone was 11,000$ and that what I was tryin to make as my point if your skill set is honed then but by all means if you have the money make the investment and I hope that you work will also favor you well Donald and yes for my final point anyone can own and buy a knife but very few truly know how to use it with that again I agree

Even with my sharpest knives I can do that. A knife will only cut if it is pulled, pushed, or has a decent amount of downwards pressure.

Wow the $365 for this knife would buy almost all the gear I've been camping with for the past 10 years (on the used market). Wonder how many Alaskan native Americans have this in their kit? Cool knife but a person who can't make due with a $50 dollar knife won't suddenly be Davey Crockett with this.
@LUCKYB.
@LUCKYB. 10 лет назад
wow 365 dollars ,, look at the price for RW LOVELESS , and RANDALL MADE KNIVES ,, and ED FLOWLER knives , and the list gos on ,, you want a 10 dollar knife that's what you going to get you want a 25 dollar buck that's what your going to get , so on and so forth , I know Dan Winkler and he is a top notch maker , for hand forged work he is as good as they get , and forging steel isn't easy ,

Winkler knifes deserve better than to have a retailers logo scribed on them. Also, why dose a bushcraft knife have a glass breaker butt? I own a Spike and it is a combat knife as every other knife he makes. Combat guys do not bushcraft.
@LUCKYB.
@LUCKYB. 10 лет назад
why do you feel a good knife for under a 1000 dollars if to much ? have you ever looked at Randal made knives prices , or ED Fowler knives maybe RW LOVELESS is it that the knife costs to much or you don't have the money for a 300+ dollar knife or you would not spend that kind of money for a knife of that caliber ? the point is if a person can make due with a 50 dollar knife , you can make Due with a butter knife is you know how to sharpen one , but there will come a time that the butter knife will fail you . then what will you do .

I can pardon the handle material but a stainless steel blade and no lanyard hole? Nice looking otherwise.
@danzigrulze5211
@danzigrulze5211 9 лет назад
Adrienne Newman What the hell are you talking about? There are three different handle materials to chose from, and it have two lanyard holes as well. These knives are made to last and are backed by a lifetime warranty from Winkler himself. Get one of these in your hand and you will see what I'm talking about.

Ok, Ok,. I get your point. LOL. I don't usually write stuff like that, I may have been in a bad mood that day. I do confess the knives are attractive and look quite effective. Only lately have I been non-bias to certain stainless blade materials.
