@@doaftheloaf ngl, if Draisaitl ghosts in the playoffs again, his market value will drop pretty much like Ekblad's market value. I know this because I'm a Panthers fan 😂 Ekblad is probably worth 3 cents and some pocket lint rn, even though he played amazingly in the finals (read finals as: the games that the Panthers won in the finals)
@@freiflug83I saw someone mention the other day that they were part of that signing and he knew he was traded before starting the signing, and decided to go ahead with it anyway
@@watching9317 Only speculation. It seems that management has decided that Adin Hill is going to be the goaltender. I used to play the position, I always thought that Thompson was the better player, but Hill did have that great run for the Cup. I can see how Thompson would want to go somewhere where he would have a chance to compete for the number 1 spot. I think Washington gives him that chance.
He requested the trade. And it wasnt in the middle of a signing. He knew about it that morning and went to the signing because it was a paid Upper Deck event@choppergunner8650
Coming from a stars fan, I’m not surprised that we didn’t look great in free agency. RHD is our biggest need, and they notoriously get overpaid, which did happen.
Look lebushkin is a great d man in his own zone and throws his body well sucks we lost him but guess we did alright replacing him he’s a good defender good guy he gets the puck and doesn’t panic with it he’s a good defensively d man for sure
Call it cope, but I'm just reminding myself that Jim Nill is GM of the Year, and he knows better than we do- even if on paper, these moves look like a total disaster.
@@francescoravenda5070 lyubushkin is decent, bottom pair guy, but 3.25 is a bit much. the duchene and desmith moves were great value. it actually looks solid overall...until you get to dumba. that's the wtf move. no one who's seen him play in the last 3 years can argue he's worth 3.75m even if that was his total salary over two years. they bought out suter just to pick up another suter. the other deals, it's not so much that they're bad value; it's just that none of them address the need dallas has for a top 4 RD. if that's what they were trying with dumba, nill is dumba than a box of rocks.
Disagree on the Red Wings. You want Stamkos at 4x8? Yzermans biggest fault has been overpaying free agents so I much prefer this over another future but out candidate. It’s all one and two year deals meaning the wings will be able to take a swing again next year instead of locking down some 34 year old for too much money. Maybe they could have got Pesce if not for D signings last year. There’s a few guys that would have been nice but not with any term. My only real disappointment is Ghost signing for so cheap in Carolina.
I'm still wondering why Yzerman basically gave away Walman. I know that Raymond and Sieder need new deals but the cap space for that is there. If he put all his eggs in the Trouba basket and is currently striking out on that, not only would that surprise me but it would also make me question his competence. And someone needs to tell him that signing 2 below average goalies, wont make 1 good one.
@@NothingToPointOut24 I think Walman has been overrated by the fan base because the year he came in he was the only decent producer outside seider on the blue line. That doesn’t mean he was good or even very productive though. 43 points in 145 games. He looked alright next to seider for a time but it’s no coincidence that walmans best season was seiders worst. They spent all last year juggling the d. I suppose you could put him on waivers but then a team like Toronto or Boston could pick him up. If he does turn it around you’d rather it be far away than somewhere that could affect your playoff chances. How the prospects taken over the last few years develop is what will decide Yzerman and the teams date.
The Kings overpaid for a borderline AHLer and bottom pair d-man (Edmundson), and our only somewhat decent signing is a forward (Foegle) who's numbers were definitely filled mostly because he played alongside Draisaitl. We wasted our cap space essentially on players with a lot of questions. It's diabolical. Unless they are serious on playing the youngsters massive minutes this season, I can't see an argument where they can get back to the playoffs.
Honestly I almost feel bad for you Kings fans. My team having suffered for a long time with horrible management is hard to deal with. Rob Blake was an amazing player, but he's sure horrible being a GM in my opinion. He's running the Kings into the dirt with some of these trades and signings he's doing.
@@deanm3464 His numbers look solid but as I said, I think most of that is because Drai was his linemate. I certainly guarantee at the very least a drop in production.
@@mikeoilfan Alright then, but it's honestly worrying that Foegle is the best signing on paper. The reliance on the youth movement is extreme, and these youngsters must deliver or else we're cooked. I just feel overall that the front office threw their hands up after the playoff exit. We miraculously got out of a bad contract, but we didn't capitalize on the cap space created. Rob probably sees that there's nothing more that can happen with Kopitar, Drew, and the rest of this core. So they signed these guys as stop gaps.
The biggest loser - nashville. They blew 20 million dollars on stamkos, marchessault, skjei overpaid all of them plus they all have NMC. With all those new additions the Preds have made they are projected to be bottom tier playoff team.
as a kings fan, i was completely shocked we went for Edmundson. not happy with it at all. when i was watching the playoffs, i felt like i noticed him getting beat a lot, which is not a good sign. love Blakey, but i have a feeling his job is in danger now and wouldn’t be opposed to it.
habs fan. we had to eat half his contract to trade him at all. how tf did he get a RAISE? for FOUR YEARS. if the dubois trade didn't prove it last year, this signing does. rob blake is BAR NONE the dumbest GM in hockey. he managed to unload PLDiva on the crapitals, but he probably thinks that with the corpse of darcy kuemper that he's solved his goaltending. he hasn't. it's worse than last year. you could have got foegele for a million less. oilers fans repeatedly put him in trade talks as salary filler. unless byfield has like a 100 point season or something, the kings are missing the playoffs this year, and perhaps by more than 10 points. maybe then the kings will see that blake, and his mentor bergevin, are ruining their team. four years ago you had easily the league's best prospect pool. apart from byfield and maybe clarke, you've squandered it all. speaking of byfeild, i'd seriously consider sending an offer sheet his way. and i'm a habs fan. it's not like we're good yet.
@@Joe_Ma99 Even if he regresses to his norm I still think it’s a solid contract. Idk tho maybe you’ve seen more oilers games and can tell me more. Definitely a bit biased after the playoffs he had haha
@@JD200_ well to put things into perspective, he scored a total of 4 goals 4 assists in his finals run (25 games) and 4 goals 8 assist (71 games) in the regular season. Needless to say his playoffs where a bit of an outlier lol he’s a solid bottom 6 forward but his entire career he’s been notorious for getting breakaways but having no finish whatsoever. You’re right though, it’s still a good contract even if he regresses to the mean.
Coming from a Lightning fan, Dumba barely deserves 1 million, let alone 4. I wouldn't have kept him for league minimum. Not sure what Dallas was thinking.
Im so tired of the Samsonov slander he played two seasons with the leafs 1 and 1/2 seasons he was good last year he was the worst goalie in the league at the start of the year. At the end of the year he was top 5.
Nashville had a great free agency if they win a cup in the next 2 years. After that they’ll live to regret giving Stammer, Marchessault and Skjei the term they did.
If you win the cup there are no regrets. Mission accomplished. That said I don’t think they have enough to win and they probably will regret that term.
In 3 years both stamkos and marchessult are 37 years old and stamkos have 8 million dollars as a 37 years old player lllllooooollllll😢and almost The same whit The other dude 😢
To be honest with buffalo having that much cap space they had left they could have kept skinner. Sure he was overpaid but they didn’t bring in anyone with big money. They should have traded one of their young forwards to get a really good player like Necas or Zegras. They have a lot of good pieces in their team & hopefully they don’t dig themselves more into a grave
They traded him for the same reason they let Rinehart, Okposo, Girgensons, Mittelstadt, etc. go. To show players that if they actually come to Buffalo and it doesnt work out they'll treat you well and give you the opportunity to go to a real contender. There is almost 0 reason for any player to come to Buffalo otherwise.
Canes made some good signings but IDK if they are currently the contenders that they were last season. Pesce was severly mised in their series against the Rangers and now you take away Skeiij, Guentzel, Terovienen and Noesen They'll still be good cause they always are, and I think that they will make some nice moves during deadline time that make them better. But right now the downgrade on D and losing two pretty key offensive pieces is pretty substantial. It was smart of them to lockup Slavin longterm and I love Chatfield and Martinook.
I think a lot of people are underestimating the hole the Wings ended up in after chasing the consecutive playoff appearances streak for so long. A long slow rebuild was to be expected imo. Letting the youth play and not swinging for the fences on long deals for aging stars is definitely not a bad thing given where they’re at.
I think Edmonton won big time with Arvidsson (play driver) and Skinner (scorer). They will be the team to beat in the NHL next year. Also like the Josh Brown signing as he adds toughness the Oilers lacked.
The devils offense: Hughes, Hischier, Meier, Bratt, Palat, Mercer*, Tatar, Lazar, Bastian, Noesen, Noesek, Cotter Defense: Hamilton, Pesche, Hughes, Nemec, Sieganthaler, Dillon, Macdermod Goaltending: Markstrom Allen Daws The devils forward group is insane, thr defense is so much better. And the goaltending, I mean come on. This might be, on paper, from top to bottom, the best Devils team of all time
Just for comparison sake I would say they are second best on paper to the early 2000s teams featuring Arnott, Elias, Sykora, Holik, Mogilny, Gomez, Madden etc up front and Stevens, Niedermayer, Rafalski on D with Brodeur in net.
As soon as the Oilers lost game 7, I said they were winning the cup next season. And I stand by that even more now. I could be wrong...but they were good before, and seemed to get better.
Coilers beat a tired and banged up Dallas team who beat Vegas and Colorado.. Easy path this year.. Not next season year. Coilers had their chance.. Bank IT!!
@@tomxander7086 wow Tom, nice comeback. So Draisaitl had broken ribs and a broken finger, McDavid has an abdominal issue, Kane couldn't play, Desharnais was beat up in L.A., Nurse was hurt and Oilers had to fight a flu bug going through the whole team while playing Vcr. I get you're not an Oiler fan - but if you really think, with the two best players in the world on their team and their additions, they 'had their chance' -then you sir know jack and shit about hockey, and Jack left town
@@KptKrunch9481 You got triggered, lol,so your beloved Coilers are the only team within injuries. Wow! Who would have known? You are as bright as a dead lightbulb.
@@tomxander7086 you're absolutely delusional if you actually think Oilers don't have a chance again you should probably start watching golf buddy😂😂😂😂 Oilers were just as banged up when they played Dallas the only injury the Dallas hide was rupe hints they were way more healthy than Edmonton. Pretty much all of the Oilers top guns were playing with injuries too so nice excuse bud.
Dude as a kings far idk how Rob Blake still has a job. He found a way to get us out of that ridiculous PLD contract that HE put us in, just to do this? So many big names on the market and this is the shit he pulls. Dreading October honestly
Kings fan, I want Rob Blake gone so badly. Jacob Moverare and Andreas Englund had much more success in that LHD role and we just overpaid for a 3rd pair LHD that is statistically worse than both of them which is not saying a whole lot. Really hope we make a splash for a top 6 forward at some point this season while still signing Spence and Byfield. Blake said they have had an eye on Edmundson for awhile which I don't get; much rather have had Brendan Dillon tbh.
One thing you gotta keep in mind about the Sabres is the Jeff Skinner buy out really hamstrings them next year - and the year after. 2 years from now the buyout penalty is over $6M in cap hit. If the Sabres spent to the cap this offseason they would be worse off down the road - they are literally handcuffed for 2 years with that buyout. When you look at the cap penalties I'm not even sure the buyout made sense tbh. especially when you don't land any players and don't spend any of the money. you may as well have just kept skinner
@@CapsCoverageMatt Roy move was terrible and so was the PLD trade. I’m a huge caps fan and I’m finding it very frustrating seeing what bmac has been doing. For every good move he makes he makes two bad ones after that. Not to mention we’re 14 mil over the cap and will probably have to give up prospects and picks to dump a contract.
@@Ignite_Intensity193 I can't say that I like the PLD trade, but I think it was a move that the team had to make, it was the only way to move Kuemper without retaining salary or adding a sweetner. While very risky and something I probably would not have done, I understand the thinking behind it. Matt Roy is a very steady defenseman who is an analytics darling with some of the best WAR numbers for his position. Despite being more expensive, he provides more offense than Jensen, is younger and still fufills Jensen's role as a penalty killer who moves the puck well. Oshie is very likely going to be on LTIR which will solve the salary cap issues.
@@CapsCoverage we have an elite prospect pool that no one is willing to admit, we’ve hit on every pick in the last 4 years in the first 2 rounds. They need to stop trying to play for ahl dominance and play our young guys in roles where they can succeed. It’s also insane the term Roy is on that’s gonna run into when this team inevitably has to rebuild and we’re not gonna be able to sign franchise pieces moving forward with all these shit contracts. Why not keep kuemper he sucked but we just picked up a longer worse contract for a center when we already had our two top six centers moving forward.
I dont think anyone realizes the Buffalo CANT sign good players. They all have NMC and NTC to avoid Buffalo. Tbh this is almost the best they could possibly do.
@@McSorleyFan33they’re literally the deepest forward group in the league right now 😭😭😭 Nuge, Hyman, Arvidson, Skinner, just got Savoie, and Bouch as arguably the best offensive d-man in the league. COPE HARDER
One interesting aspect for Buffalo -- Malensteyn and Aube-Kubel played together on the fourth line with Washington. It will be interesting to see if they reproduce that in Buffalo.
I would begrudgingly call the Hurricanes the biggest winners of free agency. The price tags that they were able to secure Gostisbehere and Walker for were crazy low. Although it wasn't a signing I'd also like to shoutout my Caps for the Chychrun trade!
The Slavin extension is also an incredible signing. Very cheap cap hit for arguably the best defensive defenseman in hockey. Getting him for 8 years at 6.5m is incredible.
jensen and a 3rd. wtf are the sens thinking? they fleece the b's on ullmark then decide they have to pay it forward? this won't rescue the crapitals. your core is older than joe biden.
As a devils fan, I cant wait for the next season. We got help on the back end, dougie is back, the schedule announcement video was peak, we have a goalie, now all I can do is hope injuries don't derail the season again. Im also hoping for dawgson to resign because I love that man.
Can’t believe Utah wasn’t on this? Unless you already did a video solely on that I missed, as a hawks fan I love the moves. I think personally I would have rather had Domi back instead of Bertuzzi but still love the signing, anything is an upgrade needed for Bedard
, we didn’t improve and it felt like we got worse. Last year I knew we were gonna make the playoffs and had hope we’d make it past the first round. Now tho? I wouldn’t be shocked if we missed it this year. We didn’t address losing the only guy making our pp bearable with RV Our address to losing one of the statistically best d man in Roy was to sign a guy who is injury prone and a bottom d for 3.8 fucking mil for like 4 years Our address to depth scoring was Foegele who is decent but I expect a at least small drop off from points not playing with dri and Jeannot (who I thought was an ok trade) We still don’t have an answer for net We now made it so much harder to get our young guys ice time Oh and we only have like one RHS for our forwards. Seeing teams like the preds make great moves for good guys and what the oilers did with similar amount of cap space sucks We finally built something good up just for rob and bergerven to destroy it in like 2 seasons
Dallas wasn’t that bad, Suter was horrible, and i mean horrible, if u actually watched dallas, u know how bad he was defensively and he didn’t bring a lot to the offense. We replaced him with Dumba who is way better defensively and right handed which we desperately needed. Lybushkin contract was bad, but he could be very decent (another RHD who is defensively) Tanev wanted toronto and idk why we didn’t go for walker but ghost is a offensive defensemen which we don’t need. overall not great but not bad
For what was out there and for who would accepted a more limited term it makes sense. I think the organization knows it still has players in development and it doesn’t want to spoil that on a couple years.
@@maxwelllittle6325 Yeah, thing is, dallas got a ton of players who need knew contracts in 2-4 years, so already that RHD are expensive, if u want them for only 2 years u got to pay and the big names just want term which dallas can’t afford
I hope you're right. I was just so excited when we finally dumped Suter, and about who we might replace him with... and we got Dumba. While I'm not going to say that Dumba's as bad as Suter, speaking as someone who also cheered for AZ? He's not great.
You missed a loser: Tampa Bay. What are you even doing, BriseBois? I get letting Barre-Boulet and to an extent Stamkos walk, but letting go of Cole Koepke and Felix Robert? And trading Sergachev? Don't get me wrong, cap space was needed but what are you doing? Are you trying to contend or are you tanking? If you're trying to contend, why did you give up Robert, Koepke and Sergachev? If you're tanking, why did you bring in Guentzel on a 7 year deal worth $9 million per year? Right now I hope they're ready to spend heavily on travel, because Tampa looks to be having at least three players at minimum consistently bouncing between Tampa Bay and Syracuse.
The New Jersey Devils teams of the past few years have been the least physical, undersized, allergic-to-contact team you'll ever see. They fixed that shit. Also, the biggest loser of the offseason is yet again the New York Rangers as they will never win a Cup ever the fuck again; doesn't matter what they did. Shit, they didn't even win in 1994, Edmonton did.
Never ever come up with a comment like that about Ilia Lyobushkin. His problem is may be that he is too nice, if I would b his coach, I would make him becoming a mongrel in regard to defense and attack. Al these wanna bee coaches took him as a denfense, shot stopper and power play expert, no and no again, this player has so much potential but he is obviously to obidient and shy to show off his real potential. It is about and I repeat myself up to the coaching to let him show off his real potential
I feel Reimer is a great veteran for ukka and levi tò learn and teach a great presence that goalie ròom needs . I wish we would do the same for josh allen he needs a vet to learn from but we keep bringing mitçh trubiski 😅 Joe Flacco would have came here willingly and cheap ! Hes not the best qb to ever play but he is a proven winner lets go Buffalo! Sincerely the 716
The number one loser was Columbus. They hired a new GM to do exactly what Jarmo was famous for. Over paying a good, not great player. Why fire the old GM only to continue the same strategy?
I can agree with some of these for sure but i think you for sure got one wrong and missed two that were poor poor poor. 1. Detroit. They dont have to go and get anyone they're developing players and there is no real rush in that. "Asking prospects to make big jumps," is exactly how you want build a franchise. Either the kids do it and you sign them up and continue winning, or they don't, you dont't sign them but you're still bad and are getting good draft picks because of it. 2. Boston and Anaheim should be here. Trading that goalie to Ottawa for a worse goalie. And those long contracts for Zadorov and Lindholm are both kinda rich dont you think? If Lindholm is a 40 goal guy 7.5 is great. If Zadorov is dominant like in the playoffs thats great. But those are HUGE ifs... Anaheim should be here because they dont know what to do. Gibson is still there and their jettisoning a bunch of the young talent they do have. Mark my words, they will be the Buffalo of the west in no time.
Given Nashville's talent pool as far as their prospects are concerned, I don't see them necessarily going into a lengthy rebuild. They're in a very unique situation right now. They have elite veteran talent and extreme elite young talent waiting in the wings in the AHL. They're in a spot at this point where they got significantly brtter in free agency and in the draft without giving up any of their future. They are going to be competing for the next few years, because these young guys are very good and they're going to progress. Very smoothly into the league at a drip fed pace instead of being pushed into the fire before they're ready. Don't be surprised if nashville is a contender for the next ten years
Only Nail can help the Oiler's now! Nail will Prevail! I bought his game shirt not long after he got drafted and has saved it ever since knowing the value he's going to give it once he has the best comeback and late career turn around of all time!!!!!!!!!!!
Canes took huge advantage of the size inefficiency. So many teams looked at Florida as the bar that they spent all sort of cap space on not-very-effective but large/tough defensemen. Guys like Dumba and Lyubushkin may have been liabilities last year, but they were also big and mean which meant their UFA values were just fine. Carolina signed guys who were undervalued because they were smaller but with great analytics.
pick up a former leafs player: winner pick up a former leafs goalie: loser (ignore edmundson, and reimer i guess honestly thought that bum retired lol)
Kings have Clarke in the system. He should be getting NHL playingtime and as long as they resign Spence I think they blueline stayed the same or better.
I want Nečas to go somewhere else than Carolina. They didn't really gave him the chance to shine at the top line, Martin needs to feel being appreciated in order to be consistent.
