I did not realize that when a dog is that matted, it bruises them. You are the first groomer that I have watched that showed it.

The fact that people are commenting on the way Winnie was being “treated” you obviously don’t know the pain that she had to endure with that much matting on the body, this groomer has a lot of patience and was the most generous with the dog, what is wrong with people ?? Lol

You know that dog feels so incredibly better. She is such an adorable dog, hard to believe that they did not do something sooner for that dog. I can't imagine how painful those mats must have been for her.

You can tell that Winnie feels better! I think Winnie needs a trip to the vet for the bruising, the fishy smell and her eyes. You can tell her eyes drain a lot which isn't out of the ordinary. But usually, the shampooing gets it unless it's really bad. Bless it! I wish you could ship her to me. I'd be so good to this baby and she'd NEVER be in that situation again.

Any follow up information on Winnie since originally posted? Have the owners continued with a proper maintenance plan?

It's the owners who are so mean and cruel to Winnie. What some of the commenters do not understand is that Winnie needed to know you, not she, was in control if grooming was to be accomplished. A firm, consistent, calm hand and voice was necessary to maintain discipline and reassurance letting Winnie know that although stressed and frightened of an unfamiliar experience and in pain, you were helping her; that she could trust you. For her relatively small size and you working as quickly as possible, grooming still took over an hour to complete. Had you of let her behavior dictate, grooming would have taken hours causing Winnie unreasonable prolonged fear and stress. At many points of pause as well as throughout the process you patted and praised Winnie giving her extra at the end. She heard and felt your compassion. Winnie will remember you and will be calmer, more trusting her next grooming. Well done.

I am sick to c that someone would treat a wonderful dog like Winnie....personally, i feel this is animal abuse. Dog should go to a loving home...my thoughts...love.her, breaks my heart. No one deserves to hv an animal that cannot or will not give kindness and love to this precious dog...i am 😠😠😠.....thank God you had the dog brought to you and do what you do. ❤

Working with animals requires love, patience and real skill. You did a fab job. Any special situation shows what a practitioner has in terms of ability, and staying with the animal till the job is done. At times, as a longtime pet owner I've dealt with difficult creatures (even though I love them!), I am impressed, because I know what this takes. Thanks for an amazing video.

You have given me a real respect for my groomer, even with a dog like mine, who gets his hair cut every other month. When you have a long hair, you have a responsibility to that dog to keep it groomed. If you won't, you shouldn't have that kind of dog. Thanks for letting me vent !!!

The dog looks good with a 10. If I owned her, I'd keep her at a 1 inch hair growth. Specially during the summer. Great video.

You were very patient. I know that this animal was just so relieved to be rid of that matted mess. God bless you and what you do to help animals. Wow Dede, just watched all four of Winnie’s videos in a row. And, for such a badly matted dog, she is a very gentle soul. She must be so relieved to have that weight off. I could see towards the end she was getting tired. She looked so much younger and cuter with her hair off 🙏🏻🐶🐾💜

May I ask, NO disrespect intended! ~ Why do you never give these tremendously matted dogs "a treat" midway or some water? I'm simply curious as this has to be SO traumatic for them. GREAT Job Dede!!! I admire your work; just curious for those especially nervous & in pain dogs. xo

I just groomed a matted dog who started to get bald spots for being matted and dirty for so long. It was long hours of grooming. I saved lots of her hair actually. At the end the client tried to pay less, got mad and didn’t appreciate my time with the dog and also explaining how to brush his dogs hair. I felt like I wanted to report it as a animal abuse. The dog was very skinny to. She was such a good baby, just like Winnie. Is sad. Few people should not have dogs.

She's so adorable and really a sweet dog. I'm very saddened though about her bruising but you were amazing in how you handled her. One of our dogs has a sweater just like the one you picked for her! So... great taste you have. I just think people here need to quit lynching without knowing the full story. I'm glad your friend though managed to persuade the owners to get her groomed. It was terrible but we don't know WHY it was so terrible so I'm going to assume it was an old lady living on a very fixed income who needs a furry friend and didn't know the hazards.
