i remember that battle. the game was crashing so you decided to go down in an epic battle, but turns out you didn't stack the odds enough against you. those epic battles really do make Bannerlord a great game.
@@Strat-Guides just for curiosity/learning why did you hold on the cavalary for so long? i kinda feel like it could have helped the troop leakage into the archers
No they don't because they are not epic at all. Being able to easily survive any battle which your side wins, and being able to win, even against 5 times bigger army only proves that this game on singleplayer sucks, is extremely easy and simple.
@@thehuntermikipl1170 if you cheese it isn't an epic battle. he didn't cheese so it was not a given win. he won due to all of his troops being high level companions. the same thing happens on MP all the time when you have a group of people who are playing as a group against a bunch of noobs. even a group against equal skill level that are randoms and don't work together lose when they should win.
@@jamoecw Every battle in M&B sp is cheesing, because AI is dumb af. Having OP troops is cheesing. Spamming LMB at the bots who aren't even looking at you, and killing dozens of them this way is cheesing. Hell, you can even win a whole battle just by yourself this way, kiting bots and spamming LMB at them. On sp everyone can win 1:1 battle. Most people can win 2:1 battle. 5:1 is insane ratio, and he didn't exactly do an excellent 200IQ strategy (not like it's even possible on sp), but he won anyway. On multiplayer, there is no way this would happen. Opponents there are skilled, they have brain, can focus on more than 1 opponent, have situational awareness. They can execute mor complicated orders, and 1 player there can't just run around spamming LMB and killing everyone. Even if for some reason there is a big battle, when one side uses strategy, and is coordinated, while the other is not, they still wouldn't beat them at 1:5 ratio!!!!! Probably not even at 1:3. It just reminded me of an idea for an mp event, where one side was an experienced, and well coordinated clan, facing a larger force, of less experienced, and not coordinated players.
I love these asymmetric tactics videos. I feel like for all the improvements RBM makes there are some drawbacks. Like how the troops maintain unit cohesion much better, but at the cost of being very passive when harassed by lone troops. As bad as the base AI is I don't think you would have had as easy of a time pick off the their archers for example. They just kind of stand there and let themselves be picked off.
@@InternalxHD Not entirely true. I run lots of custom armor with RBM. RBM comes in two separate and independently functioning modules: the first is the overhaul module (the armor/item changes and the point of incompatibility), and the second is the AI module (the AI-altering and highly compatible module). You don't need to activate the overhaul module to get the AI changes. You can just activate the AI module and you're set.
@@Imagine_Baggins well obviously, I been using ai rbm for a very long time.. but again like I said if you wanted to use modded weapons and armor then your screwed, rbm only has compatibility patches for a very small sum of weapons and armor otherwise they do 0 damage and. Adicslly got godmode
@@InternalxHD The modularity of the mod itself isn't obvious to people who haven't yet looked into the details of the mod, hence why I clarified. The AI changes are the most important part of RBM for most people. And that specific component of the mod is *highly compatible,* and doesn't require any kind of patches. I'm making this distinction so that people aren't dissuaded from using the mod strictly for AI changes because they were led to believe it implicitly causes armor conflicts.
this is amazing i always took myself as a strategy guy and hated blundly attacking my enemies and instead using strategies while being outnumbered but this is on next level can you tell me what mods u used to make it realistic? and what mode were you in realistic?
So the full video has all the mods. It’s the Spartacus series. But the realistic combat and enemy cohesion mod is RMB. Sadly they maintain cohesion at the loss of being picked off by the player easily.
It's a couple things: High polearm skill with perks that increase thrust damage, a custom polearm with max thrust damage and also using RBM mod which makes thrust polearms actually usable (unlike vanilla).
@@Strat-Guides thanks for the tip ! I plan to wait the holidays before running a brand new campaign (hoping TW will "fixe" -again- v1.2.0), and this mod looks like the perfect addition. Great channel btw
I don't recall the exact parts, but it was 300-350 length and picked parts to max thrust damage. I also had RBM on which makes polearms actually viable compared to vanilla.
@@Strat-Guides Thanks, realized after commenting I wouldn't be able to tell a soul what my bannerlord weapons were five months ago so I appreciate the detail Always enjoyed your content btw, for this and other games. real ☝☝☝☝☝
Heya, quick question but is it possible to recruit tier 5 and 6 units? I've been getting conflicting information and i havnt noticed being able to recruit them despite having a hundred prisoners on me for months
Yes you can recruit them as prisoners. The problem you're having is you probably have a ton of different types of units in your prisoner hold and each of them have a random chance each hour to gain confirming. So if you need 30 hours to recruit a single one, but you have 50 types of units as prisoners, you'll only be getting one hour of conformity every 50 hours on average, so it will literally take you over a year just to get one to convert. Instead, only keep one or two TYPES of prisoners at any given time and dump the rest. You'll see a big difference in recruitment rate. Quick note, you can have as many of the same type of prisoner, just don't have a lot of different types of it will show you down a lot
Just think of it as making the best use of your own troops. Like for example, the safest tactic to use in general is to have infantry at the front, archers on the back, and cavalry on the flanks. The infantry makes contact with the main body of the enemy, archers weaken them before the lines collide, and the cavalry can flank or prevent flanking. You can spice things up by, for example, pulling your archers up front with cav supporting them. This way you can pepper them with arrows for way longer, always retreating, essentially kiting the infantry until your lines collide, with you cav there to hold off any attempt at wiping your missile troops. Another would be to separate your infantry into 2 groups, one whose main job is holding the line, probably in a thinner line, but that will give you more time for your second group to go around and flank them. You can think of a lot of ways to give yourself an advantage. Hiding your archers in forests so cavalry is less effective as they hit the trees, hiding your infantry in a valley if you feel like they have stronger archers than you, flanking with your archers, etc. A lot of variety in strategies. Don't be afraid to save and try something new!
How come you don't play with RTS Camera/Command? I know you've covered the mod before so is it because you want to keep this playthrough low on mods like that? Or maybe just because it's not updated for current versions of Bannerlord? Either way I'm curious!
Hey bud, as much as I love your content.. I used to be sonexcited for 8 A.M. my time. I still look everyday. I just feels like a month's wait now. I freaking miss it man. I need my fix.
Try winning a battle "against impossible odds" with troops, everybody can just roll out with main character and slaughter everyone because AI is unable to properly fight while in Warband fighting 1vs1 was really hard, 1vs10 was real impossible odds.
In real life, if a cavalry unit charged skirmishers, downhill, from the rear.. they would have annihilated these javelin men.. Bannerlord still needs fixing and adjustments...
Yeah cavalry have been underpowered for such a long time. A lot of it is due to the poor AI targeting, some from bad stats (like 1 - 2 charge damage from a full speed horse lol) etc.
@@Strat-Guides I wish I could say "I will try!" but I am so done with smithing after finishing bannerlord twice. (All the money I make came from smithing.)
loved this battle. I wished the game didn't crash, would have wanted to see an much bigger battle. Love the bannerlord Ai sometimes. the way the enemy cavalry flanked so much to hit your archers was soo cool.
Hey so I'm playing Warband and I'm trying to defend Sargoth from the Vaygers. I've got just about 150 men against their 600. If it help my troops are composed of Swadian and Nord units with a few mercenaries for extra hands. None of the other lords are gonna help me since we're getting gang banged by 3 different countries. If anyone would help me I'd be willing to go into depth about my gear, units, enemy nobles, and enemy units. Oh and King Fuck Face of the Vaygers is also trying to siege this place. Rn I'm trying to gather as many troops as possible and get up to at least 200 men. I think one of my allied nobles is in the area with about 60 men but he ain't gonna risk it. He will do anything I ask of him though so I guess if I need to retake the town there's that.
You didn't win this battle. This battle was won by the terrible balance of this mod. Seriously? A 2.5m spear that does 300 damage on foot... You should also make a video “I destroy an army of 1000 alone (I have a tank)”
I had a battle with odds like this against the Sturgians, the only reason I got out of it was because their forces were already depleted to mostly fresh recruits. Despite them not being at peak power the battle was still insanely bloody and I had to maneuver through the heart of sturgian lands with about 30 men to spare
@@Strat-Guides yeah I was a mercenary for Battania at the time, later on in the campaign I became an Aserai merc and defended Uqba Castle against 2 armies of Vilandians counting about 3000 men total
i can't even win a 400 vs 400 against sturgian Raganvad, despite changing strategies multiple times, ambush using archer and flanking tactics. their infantry was tough as hell.
You know, I heard some people are making a Lord of the Rings mod for bannerlord it looks pretty promising, and it looks like a pretty big map. I would love a future series of it, but here's a fun question which faction you would join. Would you join Sauron would you join Isengard, or would you join the free peoples of Middle-earth
in The Last Days of the Third Age i played Rohan first since it was the most similar to MnB. later i did a Dwarf campaign, but since they do not use horses i got curb stomped before i could recruit enough troops to fight off basic animals, so i did an elf campaign instead. after the elves i decided to try an Isengard campaign, but the early game is similar to Dwarves so i got curb stomped again. i played some of the evil men, then with some updates the Dwarves were made so they don't get ridden down as much in the prewar days by animals so i did a Dwarf campaign, and after that i did an Isengard campaign but couldn't close it out against the elves since orcs take too many casualties and it gets hard to find weak parties to go after to build your forces back up. one of the best, maybe even the best of the MnB mods out there.
I remember one of my battles where I was defending a castle in Aserai territory and all my troops died and was left alone. My blood ran cold when I noticed that there was 40 enemy troops left. Luckyly they prioratised taking up positions up on my wall insead if hunting me down. I was able to pick them off with bow an win.
As much as I like the eagle rising mod (I've played mainly as carthage for quite sometime, a bit on dacia and rome as well), my slight issue in the mod is that the sturgians are not yet replaced with any modded faction yet (for the last time I played, correct me if there is now). This makes the game really unbalanced, especially with rbm, since the sturgians' arsenal of weaponry and armour are practically 11th century which isn't really fair against ancient armour and weaponry (and trust me, that time difference shows). Elite vanilla sturgian infantry and druzhina cavalry with their lamellar plates and closed mail helmets are almost invincible (by arrows, swords, spears, axes, etc.) when compared to the other factions such as rome with elite tier troops which mainly uses mail, with helmets that are rather open which makes it easy for attacks to one-shot them in the face. Same goes for carthage, dacia, etc.
I've not played RBM or Eagle Rising, but what you described is exactly why I love Sturgian infantry - combine Heavy Axemen with some Captains that have high Athletics, 1 Handed, and Throwing, they become heavily armored and hugely shielded beasts. It's like fielding an army of literal tanks.
The moment i even think about going after enemy archers i get instakilled by volley that can block out the sun..... I have no idea why are they so passive towards you.
Yeah that can be tricky. If I start to get targeted, I'll typically ride in a very erratic motion to throw their aim off. They were targeting me pretty hard here, but the horse took the brunt of the damage for me lol poor thing
That moment you were like “wow that’s a big bridge” lol. I’m just surprised they didn’t just rush you down. I’ve even had maps where the ai just throws their 200 peasants at me in a spread formation and I’m just like “well shit”. Took a few loads and a quick tight circle formation to win that one x.x was on an open plain so I perched a squad of archers and prayed their calv unit wouldn’t just rush ‘em. Got lucky and they tried to crash the infantry.
You don't need to hold the bridge, and you certainly don't need to hold the bridge with a shield wall. You already have the bridge. Let them come and claim it. It's a bottleneck already. So what are they gonna do? They are gonna get shot to shit if they do pretty much anything. All you need do, essentially, is point the sharp things at the bad men, and hold tight. You will win this. I certainly could, which means you could too. What were the 'odds'? Like 10 to 1? Yeah, you should be fine in this situation, as the whole map - at least as far as you are concerned - is a funnel, leading down into your strong point. What more does any commander need? Yes, the cavlray will flank, but you have spearmen, and you have a filter by which to organise and prioritise each unit. Spears in back, shields in front. Your inf should be basically safe from cav now. Blah blah, you get the point. This is how I play my games, and they are more realistic than anything I have ever seen. Far surpassing any movie. I might have some video cap, or something... a flythrough? I certainly have images that I didn't throw out, somewhere.
A couple things - it's custom crafted and min maxed for thrust damage, I've got a very high level in polearm and perks to boost thrust damage and finally I'm using the mod RBM which makes thrust damage actually usable
When you one shot kill fully armoured enemies with a spear you're either way up in lvl or you're playing on very easy. No way I can pull this off at lvl 13..
It's two things - near Max level for polearm (and a custom crafted polearm with high smithing) and I was using the RBM mod which makes polearm actually usable on foot. In the base game, you could only do this with the headshot perk and hitting only headshots
Some of it is the high polearm skill and perk selection, but also from the RBM mod which makes spears viable on foot. If you're on PC, I highly recommend trying out RBM
So i have a lot of success when i use delegate command just on Calvary. They seem to just protect my flanks well enough and not run straight into the thick of infantry formation like the damn horse archers do. But maybe i just get lucky with the AI decision making.
Was this on console? I don’t see any mouse movement bits for aiming, and it seems like there’s aim assist for thrusting since you basically do a 180 and hit someone… that’s not my experience with bannerlord on PC
Yo, how are you doing so much damage with that big ass pole? what are your settings? Your one hitting everyone.. I saw when you was on horseback you got over 500 damage with one blow.. lol
I have the full campaign posted in a video actually, this is a small clip from it. I leveled up like everyone else :) There might be some confusion because of the mods I had active - RBM changes a lot of how damage works, so maybe that's where the confusion is
@@Strat-Guides it's not confusion. He is talking about the same issue as my comment. None of the AI units have any of those types of perks and so they do like 3 damage to you. Yet you're doing 500 damage with a spear while moving backwards attacking faster than a sword. If the AI had similar perks that hit you for 500 we'd appreciate this type of fight far more. Right now it's essentially you with god mode active while everyone around you has been set to level 1 with paper armor.
Can I change my health and make it higher in custom battles I feel like your so vulnerable like 2 arrows kills you and I can't really fight like I do with do armor in campaign or sand box
When you set up your game, select the option to only take 25% damage on yourself. This is how I play because i agree with you, I play for the power fantasy so I try to min-max everything, and sometimes you just get unlucky in bannerlord and can get 1 shot. I understand it's part of the game, but if you choose the game option to only take 25% damage, you'll become MUCH tankier. As the power-fantasy type player, I like to get into the thick of battle, and sieges take too long to et going for me, so I'll charge up and put ladders up to encourage my troops to get there faster, and then I'll be first on the walls. I accidentally got surrounded by 20-30 militia and if I had been taking 100% damage I'd have died in 2 seconds. With only 25%, I was able to kill them all and continue the fight at ~50% hp. Admittedly I also have really good armor, but setting just yourself to take less damage doesn't break it too much imo. Edit: It is totally up to you though, and that's the beauty of RPG games like this - they're meant to be flexible to let you play how you wanna play.
What mod allows you to play as Spartacus and adds all the historical roman generals, i.e. Publius Varinius from the time of Spartacus' rebellion in 73-70 BC?
Eagle rising changes all the weapons to that time period and then I used character reloader to change AI names and appearances. I made a video about it if you look on my channel for mods
