I think blizz should do some kind of wild event that rewards players for stepping into wild (and maybe give them a few free cards to help with it, maybe like doom in the tombs for standard). I do think a decent amount of standard players would like wild if they actually just tried it. Wild is probably never going to be as popular as standard but I think it could certainly maintain a larger population than it does now. Also Dane needs to get some spotlight action on the battle.net launcher :P
