wow best explanation of the mindset/thinking during a dink exchange. I struggle with being impatient and thinking about and speeding up too early/not advantageous.....this video really helps understand the thought process and learning to recognize the various positions you are in during the exchange

Noice. Always helpful to me to have points worked thru. Commenting on your own thought process and that of your opponent. I've not heard the hunting analogy and the progression. Love it. Easy to see you do it, and as always, challenging to actually implement. But I'll try and that's what keeps this game interesting. Constant improvement possibilities. Thanks JC

Another excellent explanation and slow mo video of pro play and mindset that's not obvious. I struggle with doing more speed ups and defending counters at the NVZ. There's a lot to recognize and learn from in the video in that regard including footwork, movement and ready position in addition to John's articulate instruction.

Totally stumbled on your channel and I, along with my family started playing about two months ago and we are hooked. We basically have been playing as a family on the weekends and we spend all day playing. We bring so much food and everything but the kitchen sink😅. But this is definitely helpful because I want to get better at the kitchen. My issue is that I watch all these videos and I almost have it replayed in my head, what to do, the proper form, the proper technique during the game. I end up with a lot of unforced errors, mostly backhand side. I have to remind myself to play since I have a good handle of the feel of the game since I have a tennis background. Your videos help and I like that your videos are shorter than most other channels but concise and to the point. Thanks so much.

Awesome content (as usual) John, thanks !!! Unless you already have done this, it would be great to get your thought process/ready position/ court position---- essentially this same breakdown after a third shot drive/fifth shot drop combo. Once you assess your 3rd drive, how do you decide how far you move in? What is your criteria to attack the 5th shot or drop it? How do you communicate this with your partner ahead of time etc. etc. Thanks !!!!

John, you brought up aspects that I had not thought of. I jump the gun early and don’t realize it till it’s too late. I’m trying to improve my game at the nvz by drilling. Do you have suggestions on how improve hunting and defense? . Thank you

I am a 3.5 and playing players that are also similar ratings. But, it seems like we are all still at the stage of playing more of a tennis style play than a PB style of play. How can I force the other players into a pro-style play or should I play the pro dinking style (hunting style) and they will have to adapt? I don't understand how to make this transition. It is very rare to ever be in a "dinking land" style of play.
@ddyoder
@ddyoder Год назад
I know how that goes! Unsure if yours is similar to what I faced in the past, but the gameplay at that level was often much faster points, lots of speed-ups or "attempted winners", and USUALLY there is a player on one or both teams who is slower both approaching [and stepping back from] the kitchen where appropriate which often lowers the amount of dinking situations. Though a single player can't usually change the whole flow of the game, if you take the opportunity to work on your 3rd shot drops or otherwise force a dinking situation it can naturally develop. Also, if your teammate is onboard with what you're going for it can be more of a concerted effort .... that way both of you can be a rising tide to lift all ships ;)

Thanks for the great reply and advice! I'm currently not in league play, do to some injuries, but when I get active with a partner again I will be sure we head more into pro mode, and less "I want to be a tennis pro who plays Pickleball" mode!

Great break down! would that be a foot fault on the 4th shot ? Edit: after a super slow mo the ball might have clipped the NVZ line
@nicklauscurtis5899
@nicklauscurtis5899 Год назад
The ball doesn't have to land in the kitchen for someone to enter the NVZ.
