Atari and Namco worked on a 3D driving game together they parted ways Atari released HardDrivin and Namco released Winning Run, both based on the same prototype they worked on together.

Cool! I'm impressed with the audio on this game as well. The engine sound is a bit annoying but the music in between the races definitely doesn't sound like a game from 1988!

Yeah, it blew my mind as a teenager in 1989! I was still being blown away by the sprite scaling in Super Monaco GP arcade, and then I saw this. It's such a rare game these days, and doesn't get the respect it deserves.

I used to have a game or 2 of this when i finished work in 1992. I am shocked it came out in 1988. I see Ridge Racer in this game, i wonder if the same people made them.

@VegasD702 None that I’m aware of, now you mention it. Which is strange, considering this was the peak period of arcade-to-home system conversions.

The game didn't run in 60 fps in the arcades in 1989 but in 15fps. Still, an impressive game.

😲Incredible if they had this in 1988 then it's no excuses for why the Panasonic 3DO shouldn't have had groundbreaking racing games five years later by 1993. I would've settled for a perfect arcade port of Cruisin USA with extra tracks and features if they had ported the game to the 3DO or even Ridge Racer. This would of made all the difference back in 93 regarding the popularity of the system if these games had been available at the time and the 3DO could of been known for giving us the true home arcade experience in 3-D format much like the NEO GEO AES did with it's advanced 2-D graphical hardware. I still love the 3DO I just wished it would of saw the future a little bit sooner. They had the perfect setup with a two year head start and they allowed it to slip away unfortunately so.

Arcade machines like Virtua racer cost $15,000 and Atari Hard Drivin was $10,000 Consoles were always way behind due to cost of chips. Then came Tekken 1 arcade using the PS1 as its hardware.

Thanks! Yeah, the controls are are overly sensitive by default, a lot of tweaking required to make it better, but I’m so glad to get it working. Gonna try and hook up my wheel, to go for the full experience lol.

Actually it was 4 years before Virtua Racing and 6 years before Daytona USA. Winning Run came out in 1988, Daytona came out in 1994 in Japan. Virtua Racing was 1992.
