I was hesitant even as an experienced fantasy player to do auction, until I did my first one last season and now can comfortably say that I will never go back to snake drafts. It’s just so much more fun and dynamic.
I haven’t tried auction draft but this video had me interested. So, I suggested to my league to do auction draft instead. Hope there’ll be more auction draft videos. This is really interesting as it eliminates the huge advantage of randomly being the 1st pick.
I love auction drafts, but last season really has me questioning my strategy this season. I prefer stars and scrubs because I always want more droppable players to work the waiver wire. But last year I had Kat, LeBron, and Lamelo as my stars and all three of them were injured for a large part of the season. I still made the playoffs, but Lamelo and LeBron both got hurt during the playoffs. Another guy just picked the best value players, super balanced. He ended up losing like 6 weeks straight and missed the playoffs because he had 4 top 50-70 players that were all hurt. And then another guy overpaid for Jokic and Haliburton, but ended up winning the league. Health is too much of an unknown variable! I get balance provides more of a buffer.
I do auction drafts every year for one of my leagues, always enjoy it the most! Is the upcoming mock the only one you’ll be doing this season? Could be interesting to see another closer to draft time to see how values are changing
Thank you for this Josh… from one Josh to another: we’re in a 10 team keeper auction league with a $1,000 budget. I won my league last year (thanks to you… and it was only my 2nd season ever doing a fantasy league.) In order to stay competitive last year, I traded away $180 in capital and 1 keeper spot. Now I only have 2 keeper spots left (25% fee for keepers, so Anthony Edwards was $160 last year, he’s $200 this year.) This year, I’m trying to figure out who I’m keeping. I have Kristaps Porzingis who will cost me $64 (no brainer I think.) So that’s 1 keeper spot. The others are: Anthony Edwards for $200, Anthony Davis for $200, Myles Turner for $120, and Josh Giddey for $85. I’m leaning towards Anthony Edwards since I think he’ll take a leap, I think he’ll go for $250 on the open market, and he plays even through injury… but I also recognize that’s almost 1/4 of my total draft capital. For reference, Jokic went for almost $400 in my league last season-they spend. What are your thoughts-who do you think I should keep?
Hello Josh. Doing Auction Redraft H2H 12 teams for couple years now. What do you mean by balance in terms of spending $? 200$ and 13 players slot team. How much $ do you want to spend on your starting 7 players and how much do you want to spend on bench (6 players)? Or do you want to have 13 players worth 15$ value? From my experiencies mostly team with stars wins the league. Every year you can get someone from waiver (especially when playoff is on - Eubank,Sharp last season) but you cannot top Jokir or Embiid with average players.
That’s because your league is very far from standard. Like I mentioned the larger bench you have in comparison to starters, it’s better to load up on stats
@@LockedOnFantasyBasketball Ok fair enough. Standart is (based on google answer) 10 active players + 3 bench players and 1 IR slot. League format matters, valuation is always different. No problem with that. Far from standard and only 1 IR slot seems like more fun.
@LockedOnFantasyBasketball thanks, thats what I thought. But this year will be my first roto auction so i am looking to develop a good strategy pre-draft. Appreciate the input
10 teams is fine as long as the bench is deeper IMO. I’m in a 10, but we go 16 players a team. Also one thing I like to do is establish a markup price. For the top guys I add at least $5 to the average. For lower guys I go to the next number ending in 5 or 0. I use this to see in the case everyone goes over average what I have left.
Thanks Antonio Joshwa. This is Evan Bag from last season who you made draft Carl Anthony. Brother of Cole. Lost my car to my girlfriends Dad becase I owed him a couple hundred dollars. And went Carl was a bust it completely fucked me. Can you please transfer me .5 Eth as a refund for the bad advice. You cant just come on the internet and say things and think that you arent forcing your opinions on people. Have you ever met a person at a cafe (who makes coffee) that you dont like? Most people at least enjoy coffee.
