The Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad operated special excursion trains out of Laconia, NH in celebration of the Laconia Pumkin Festival.
The Pumpkin Express trains ran on the former Boston & Maine Railroad's 'White Mountain Branch'. Trains departed from the 1892 Laconia railroad station built for the Boston, Concord, & Montreal Railroad. Excursions ran about 2.5 miles south to the 'Great Wall of Winnisquam' just north of Route 3.
The power for the special excursion was P&L 1590 an EMD SW-1001 built November of 1973. The consist used was the 6921 'Winnisquam' an Ex-Boston & Maine RDC-9, the 6105 'Winona' an Ex-Boston & Maine RDC-9, and finally the 9159 'Winnipesaukee' (formerly the Ice Cream Parlor Car) an Ex-Reading RDC-1 used as a cab car for the push-pull services.
Since the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad ran two lakeside locals out of Meredith at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM, Leo's Party Caboose was not used on the Pumpkin Express.
Thank you to Merrimack & Saco Productions as always.
