Winooski River In Montpelier, VT Continues To Rise: 'This Is The Worst I've Ever Seen It' 

I've never seen Vermont this way. and I lived in Vermont for 10 years! I love Montpelier!

I recently moved to Southern Vermont and have been pleasantly surprised by the intelligence of the average adult here and throughout this region of New England. Maybe living in small mountain towns makes people able to adapt to different circumstances without crumbling. They are hard workers.? I know several women in their mid 90s that are still bright, learning technology and staying in almost daily contact with children, grands and great grands. The young adults come to see both women and take them out to dinner alone because they really like being with them - on their own and they have a great time. I lived in NYC for quite a few years and there is a striking lack of neurosis in Vermont compared to NYC. It’s quite wonderful. The State, however, has areas with major drug issues and more homeless families because most towns aren’t eager to allow new rental units because they fear it will just lead to more problems - I think that has been both good and bad for those who want to come work here. Perhaps there have been infrastructure projects that never got started due to a shortage of workers. We obviously need to dig deeper and wider waterways with the help of groups like the Army Corps of Engineers. That said - we have been getting rain every day or two for months and almost tropical rains the past week so it will continue like the storms in Souther California and up the coast last Winter. The crumbling of our infrastructure resembles what’s happening in many families. The hollowing out of the middle class has wrecked this country. These floods are a symptom of our dysfunction.

Just moved to Vermont 2 weeks ago. I live on the Missiquoi River in Richford. The river is raging & cresting! Just like hurricanes in Florida!!!!!

All of us on Camels Hump left early worrying about the flood warning. I feel real bad on what is happening in VT

@1:00 Bridges like that can get picked up and washed away in an instant. While it's cool to walk on, you really don't want to catch yourself on it when it goes.

Building shelves along the top inside your garage will protect many things. My son suggested it to his grandfather because it flooded twice. The third time the shelves worked Also the community gathered all of the limbs and sticks in a pile unclogging the creek and it cleared the way. They worked with the first responders. BTW Shouts out to all of the first responders. ( Dont forget to feed them when they're done !

Living in IN, one never hears of Vermont in the news unless it's about Bernie or tourism in the fall. I'm so sorry for what you're experiencing and hopes the flooding ends soon and you all can rebuild your lives.

I was a Vermonter for 31 years. This is how this is how they get their money. It’s business. Infrastructure is capitalism. Bernie Sanders is there representing for money when disaster comes. I have Sean Main Street at the capital flood like 10 times over the years. The Ice dam back in the spring all the time. Vermont needs luv. Send your money and resources. Been there done that.

Vermont people are the best people. They are pragmatic, progressive and artistic. They are also very resilient and community oriented because they are such a sparsely populated state so that people often feel like their community is extended family. Farmers, artisans, and outdoor enthusiasts make up the majority of the population and it was my home for the first 4 years of my life. Then I moved to southern NH 😮 it was different and still is. That’s all I will say 😆 I know that Vermonters will pull together and through this nameless storm of a millennium with the tenacity and grit they have in spades. I hope everyone stays safe and the rivers do their job to move the water down and out to the ocean. 🍁 🐄 🏞️☮️❤️
