Important note: When Winota puts a human into play attacking, that will not trigger any "when this attacks" abilities! You actually need to have a creature in play when combat starts AND choose it as an attacker for abilities with that wording to trigger.

You've left out my Golden Pig: Loyal Unicorn. It's an essential inclusion that keeps all of the attackers on the battlefield pretty much no matter what. That card needs more love in general, but is jaw-droppingly good here.

This has convinced me to finally break into the commander format. Winota is probably my favorite card from Ikoria and this deck looks like so much fun!

I love Winota and how powerful she is as a Boros commander, but at the same time I wish they’d make more cards that would make all of the general Boros commanders better unlike Winota and Feather who sort of come on the scene and make a list of incredibly budget cards suddenly extremely useful.

I've been rocking Winota since Iko dropped and she's SO FUN. Easily one of my favorite commanders of all time. You can flood the board and just smash people.

Still such a beautiful deck. Winota's so much fun. Blade Historian and Elite Spellbinder are a lot of fun to pull out of the deck too.

Played a Gishath deck against my friends Winota... Winota is terrifying.

I have an Alter of Winota that is Dar, the Beastmaster from the cult fantasy movie. It's kind of cool to have a Yoked Ox all of a sudden bring out a Human to fight with it haha. Or a one drop goblin that brings a buddy to the scrap.

I built a haz deck over a token/winota shell. Of the humans that don't have green that i ;iked in a couple playtests are combat celebrant, Lovisa Coldeyes, and Matron Stromgald though they might not fit in the budget. I like haz adding green to the mix for shanna, sidar kondo, rhys, Johan (mainly for flavor), knight of new alara, and Kamahl

I feel like impact tremors would be great in this deck with all the creature etb's you can have in one turn. That alone could finish an opponent out of nowhere

Anointed Procession would be huge in your build. Even if it's a bit on the pricier side for budget decks.

fun fact: for me (a european) it costs around 200 $ to buy this deck using your link. I didn't expet to get it for 50 $, but never 4 times that either.

Hey Mitch, i brewed an ultra budget list with her since she was spoiled and had a lot of fun playing with the deck. Here are some of my thoughts: 1. Imo mana rocks aren't that great for winota decks, since you want to run creatures out before playing her. 2. Humans that get you tokens when they attack aren't that great because when you get them with winota, you need to wait 2 more turns until you get additional triggers. 3. You missed one(2) of the most important cards: Auratouched Mage and Breath of Fury. Together they can get you multiple additional combat steps and the go infinite with cards like loyal apprentice and Legion Warboss.

keep in mind 2 rulings, winotas effect triggers for EACH non-human that attacks, and when a card comes in tapped and attacking IT DID NOT ATTACK

It's actually insane, Mitch. With Winota, you can basically buy the Mardu humans C20 Commander Deck and strip 70% of it and use it for Winota. I absolutely love the fact that she's Narset, but for beats. She's also got a MASSIVE toolbox to work with. Some other fun cards for Winota for folks interested: More Human Allies: Lantern Scout, Hero of Goma Fada and Firemantle Mage. Give all your friends Lifelink, Indestructable or Menace. Like Warstorm Surge? How about its 'little brothers', Impact Tremors and Outpost Siege? I've grown to absolutely love Outpost Sieges dual purpose as Red card advantage and ping potential. Throne of the God Pharaoh is also incredible cleave once you get your token engine going. More Card advantage/deck manipulation? Try out Thalia's Lancers. Super budget, big Human beat stick with a tutor for Legendaries slapped onto it. Dire Fleet Daredevil is also a favorite of mine when your opponents have played something juicy. Want some more protection for Winota? A card like Bolt Bend can save you and is cheap to cast (1 mana when targeting her). Looking for a win? Auratouched Mage+Breath of Fury can kick off an infinite combat lock provided you have token producers when attacking (like Hero of Bladehold). Zealous Conscripts/Village Bell-Ringer+Splinter Twin can produce infinite creatures (like Kikki-Jiki+Restoration Angel which could also be run lol).

For card draw Honor the God-Pharaoh also has amass 1, granting a non human token

Mana dorks are super powerful in this deck like gold and iron myr. Man lands like Mishra's Factory, Mobilized District and Blinkmoth Nexus also help a TON with consistency. Winota is super fun and super strong and if you like agro play styles this can beat down some of the best decks in the format. When my play group pulls out their Kinnan and Golos decks, I slap Winota down and beat the hell out of them by turn 4 or 5 xD Honestly I could talk all day about this deck, but just go build it!!!!!

don't attack triggers of creatures not work the turn they come in with winota?

I'd like to ask when you do the upgrades if you can give reasons to why they're better then the budget options. You used to do this and now just list them, I like to here your opinions.

Really need Aurelia. Getting two attack steps each turn means double Winota triggers.

Can we fit a Thorbran in there? All of our red sources doing an extra 2 points (Warstorm Surge) would be pretty nasty. Oh and Impact Tremors.

Winota is so powerful when built correctly! It's insane! It's so easy to shutdown a heavy combo player early game before they can set up a sufficient defense, it feels so great! Then I end up 3rd and sip my beer laughing with the two other players about how fun the game is without a player playing solitaire

Hey someone mind helping me out, i got a combo idea but not sure if will work. Would Winota's ability still work if Maskwood Nexus was in play? It gives everything changeling (in hand, deck, and graveyard) so all creatures would be considered human and non-human at the same time right, there for allowing the attack trigger no matter the creature and letting you play any creature onto the field since they are also technically humans as well? Or am i completely miss reading this combo?

What number of lands or recommended in this deck?

I made a winota deck for $180 but now with prices increasing the deck is now worth $250. Just like this deck is now worth around $62. Card value in a whole has gone up.

Note if you're going to play this: Effects like Relentless Assault won't make your humans attack in the 2nd combat... Winota only gives the humans indestructible, not haste, so you can't attack with the humans that Winota summoned...

Out of curiosity, how did you balance the human/non-human slots? It's something that I've been struggling with since Winota's release, outside of simply going with "a bunch of humans who make non-humans". It seems really well balanced here, so I was wondering if you had any advice around this kind of thing?

I'm a bit confused here to my understanding attack triggers dont work if a creature is put into play attacking so why have so many humans with attack triggers

I was today years old when I learned that soldier and knight tokens don't count as humans unless they specifically say "token creature - human soldier or human knight." I mean, I get it, you gotta go by literal wording when it comes to the rules, I just feel like this is gonna cause a few scoops and table flips, lol. I always knew Winota was strong, but this has completely opened up my eyes.

I can't help but notice that you are leaving lands and the prices of each individual card out of your deck techs even though those are both important things, especially since a deck can't function without lands

You got most things right, but I want to make some comments. I made a deck 80% similar to yours and I've fallen for the same traps you did: -Don't bother with ramping if it is not 1 mana. Your game plan is turn 2-3 making tokens and turn 4-5 attacking. Ramping at turn 2 and playing winota on 3 is a huge misplay. -Don't bother drawing cards. If you don't win after the second attack (turn 5) or on rare occasion the third one (turn 6), you already lost. -any manlands are worth it and they are pretty cheap -remember that anything that isn't a human is another chance at failing to find a creature on the trigger. That includes removal, ramp, draw, value, etc. The deck is aggro and has 1 plan. Stick with it. If you want value, go play simic. -extra attacks is worthless because you don't have haste. For that, you need to run odric, lunarch marshal. He comes from the triggered ability and gives haste to everyone. If there is some other human out there that gives haste, it would be great too. -the real combo of the deck is auratouched mage + breath of fury. Those are free extra attacks from the triggered ability that can end the game, besides giving you more time to find haste + odric, so everyone else gets haste too. This combo ends the game on the spot.
