Your videos are inspiring - no matter the conditions, or the challenge, you keep a cool head and persevere until the job gets done. Or do you snap and get frustrated and holler off camera? …And Lorenzo is always mellow and a good sport…Nicely done!
I grew up on a ranch in eastern Oregon. All of haying equipment were buckets of rust. I didn’t realize how much fun it was running this equipment until I watched your channel. Love your channel. Love how you’re bringing up your kids. They will have critical thinking that most kids have no idea what that even means.
David here, i have a thought for you. I have older Mack truck, it sets for months. I have 60 w solar panel with a small charge controller, battery's are always hot. You mite disconnect a cable to get back to 12 volt, also other ways to get your solar up to 24 volt output. I use alligator clips to clip to my batteries, I remove when i drive the truck, turn the solar panel face down when not in uses.
Blow across the top of the battery to blow the fumes away, less chance of a blow up. Acid fumes as much or more volatile than gas fumes. Hook up positive first then negative.Chance of less spark.
God Dam, that Riley is the handiest darn kid, makes most adults seem ordinary, can drive and operate everything, ranch, rope and ride wild mustangs, all without a mean darn bone in his body y'all and a never say die attitude. Real credit to the Hughes clan.
Get some thick walled DOM pipe & replace what you have there now...then hard face the outside edges that contact the ditch walls...if you can get good hit welds, I'll bet that'll hold
To prevent the roll from pulling up off the rack again, you can flip it around so that the pipe goes downward, then between the roll and the dozer, then up over the dozer. That would unroll it in the opposite direction which would pull it downward and backward instead of upward and forward, Also, flipping it would have the preset curve in the pipe going in the same direction as the curved tube inside the plow-piper.
Hay. You don't need to unhook the battery. Just hook up on each battery, correctly, pos on pos ,neg on negative. It will take 2 different trucks. Or you can just hook up 1 battery at a time. To confirm that put a voltage tester on each battery and you should get 12 v on each battery.
A good reason to install shut-off valves at EVERY tank and "point of use". A valve on that tank would save the water until the pipeline work is finished. Yes, I'm being the "arm-chair quaterback" here. Looks like your putting that pipe near 4 feet deep. In your part of the country there you ought to fine, with no worried about frost going deep enough in the ground to freeze the water, if you could only put it around 2 feet deep, but I suppose you have your reasons for putting it deeper.
Your batteries and cables will last a lot longer if you protect them with conductive grease (not dielectric grease!). You will probably have to go an electric supply store to get it, I've never seen it in a auto parts store. Your batteries will last much if you keep them fully charged at all time. Keep them connected to a battery maintainer when you're not using the vehicle. I used to install batteries for the Bell System and sometimes they lasted for many decades because they were kept on float (2.17 vdc) all the time.
If you unschool off the bottom by turning your pipe around. It'll pull-down, not up. What's again? The type is on the bulldozer backwards. Turn the school around, so it's feeding off the bottom, not the top.
We live in Minnesota, the weather is very much part of the process of getting things done in winter. We like to say, There's no no bad weather, only bad clothing. Good job and God bless!
mount an old V-Belt pulley on top of cab for pipe to lie in and you won't have any problems with the pipe feeding over the cab.old pulley will turn and actually make it easier for the pipe to be dragged.
Things are getting colder here in Alberta. Just got snow here it was a brown Christmas here . Going to be-40 for a few days its says starting Wednesday ish. Hope you guy's say warm and safe .
I just absolutely love your videos and your whole crew❤ Great job of getting the boom started and love those snow men great job but it's kind of easy to track the snowmen😂
Suggestion: Keep a piece of rope on the equipment to use as a "tag line" to help control things you're lifting and carrying, such as that ripper shank. Could prevent serious damage to the front of the backhoe, and make life a bit easier for Riley in those conditions. He is a VERY careful and professional young operator.
I'm glad Rhett and Ridge are enjoying the snow and making snowmen. Snow was fun as a kid but I don't like it as an adult. I grew up in New England but now live in Georgia. It usually only snows once a year here - for less than half an inch! ❄☃☃
On your boom truck if you only have the two 12V batteries in series, you do not need to separate the batteries to charge them. Hook directly to the terminals of one battery and charge it. ****REMOVE BOTH + AND - JUMPER CABLE ENDS**** BEFORE moving jumper cable to other battery. Else you will put 24 v to charging vehicle or dead short the electrical system on the running vehicle, depending upon which ( + or -) end you move first.
I'm pretty sure Dirt Perfect would approve of your pipe laying set up. It looks to be a good design given that the ground is fairly challenging. I like that it swings on a hinge. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. ❤
It truly is amazing the force you need to produce to do the job. Steel only has so much strength and as it fatigues it has to break. This is an amazing project. Good luck
When you repair the overhead guide think about building the bottom guide as a roller that might ease the stress on the whole tool. I believe I would build the pin guides out of heavier pipe and then close them in with square stock if possible.
You can unravel the hose bundle alongside of the Cat ,maybe use the back hoe to carry it forward until its all rolled out then have the boys guide the hoseinto the plough feed .
What’s that ole saying Ram, “ If’n it weren’t for bad luck …wouldn’t no luck at all ..it’s got cold down Texas way also . You have a great crew and family. God bless and onwards and upward
Also if Riley's roping career don't pan out Right away he can run equipment for big $$$ until he catch's his big break roping ..he already knows how just got to what's till he is 18 and have him go take the certification school course on heavy equipment..
My first comment to a video ! Me and my wife love your show watch it all the time keep up the great work ! Your family is what this country needs my name is Alan and my wife is Diane
You don’t need that big box to bury pipe three inch bent pipe welded to riper shank will work. Too much force on box being pulled. I’ve used muffler pipe welded to deep till shank on my John Deere 4430 to bury it 18 inches deep. Good luck.
Are you putting any T-Posts or other markers in the ground where you join together 2 rolls of pipe at someplace other than a shut-off valve (which have the PVC pipes to access and mark them)? If the pipe ever does leak in the future, those connecting seams might be the likeliest spots. And since leaks unfortunately seem to occur when it's extra cold, windy, and almost dark, being able to find them quick would be nice... 😉😄
Bolt your reel onto the arms on the bull dozer then put a roller on top of the dozer and they make a part that takes the innerduct at a better angle before going underground.
Your Fab Rats Cuzzin, Paul;s motto seems appropriate: " We do it nice because we do it twice!" Cowboy engineering is still amazing! Does the feeder tube need to pivot? Since there doesn't seem to be many hard turns would it still function if welded solid to the ripper? Bailing wire and spit hold better than anyone ever imagined! Kink it over and wire it up!
Your pipe laying set up is working ok ,you just need to make the fittings stronger. Perhaps make a forked hole set up, out of heavy plate, half inch to three quarters thick plate. to weld on both sides of the claw. Make lots of plates as hinge sections. Maybe a hard face run on plate edges to resist wear.
You should try to add another guide maybe above the ripper itself weld something like a even a wheel rim so it’s not just coming off the hood of the bulldozer but guides more straight down into your hole
Just get that water tanker, full of water, and use the backhoe to dig it ,water the starter ditch as you go, ,,,I have a nice sized ditch which, $ 5000 obo money,,, Diesel powered ride on , let me know if you want it thanks BigAl California
