Part 2 of our winter update...our first winter on our homestead...have certainly experienced some crazy weather and it sure has been cold lately! We did pretty well with our winter water set up and new shelter for the chickens and rabbits. The heated waterers have been a game changer!

Have you watched the Gold Shaw Farm channel at all? On a somewhat recent video he showed a picture of one of his Predator Eye solar light. He credits it as helpful against predators. We've had some miserable luck with hawks vs. roosters late in the summer/fall and I have a set in my Amazon cart. The LGD has been helpful against 4 legged predators. I too use a pressure cooker (I use a stovetop version, a kuhn rikon) for my backyard chickens. I am out of broth right now and I really miss it. I pressure the bones and extras with a splash of ACV to extract the minerals. The meat, though not much compared to a meat chicken, is delicious and full flavored so it was nice to hear that you liked it. I was sort of anxious that you might say it was an old tough bird, haha. okay, just got to the end of the video, when you were talking about your tree planting. Now I really want to know that you are familiar with Gold Shaw :) Great news about your little LGD! You're right, a dog on staff is a real learning curve. I visit a FB group called Learning about LGDs which is very educational and a bit hard-core in a good way about what to do and what to expect. Our LGD female is pretty soft, but our male (now deceased) was pretty great. Both were adopted/rescued from somewhat local farms, each at age 6. I would do it again.

Thanks for watching and commenting Brenda! I hadn't heard of his channel, but just subscribed and will check it out! We're going to set 100 or so eggs (mixed heritage breed) in the next month and are planning to harvest them all with a batch of meat birds this summer... we actually liked that Barred Rock rooster better than the cornish! I joined several LGD groups on FB and our breeder friend lives close by, so we'll have some help. The puppies just moved out to the barn with all of her goats... training has begun!
