After a few months spent packing up and moving across the country with my family, I still wanted to show you guys all the fabric I currently have plans to use for colder weather sewing projects!
I initially filmed this video in September, thinking I'd still have plenty of time to dig into some fall sewing before we hit the road, but time got away from me and now it's the new year, I have SO many sewing projects I CANT WAIT to begin, and I can't wait to share them with you all!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for sticking around while I disappeared for a bit, and I'm so excited to get making again!

I'm a grandmother now. My own grandfather was a tailor and my grandmother on the other side was a dressmaker - so I've sewn all my life. It's not unusual to meet young people who can't use a pair of scissors, let alone thread a needle and - heaven forbid! - take up a hem! So I'm thrilled to know that there are young people like you out there. And teaching yourself new skills too!

That’s so amazing so many people in your family have loved sewing! My grandma taught me how to use a sewing machine when I was really young, and I’m so grateful! I hope I can inspire my daughter to want to do crafty things someday too. 💕

Thank you so much, that’s so encouraging to hear! It was definitely a little weird to get used to, but I feel like being able to chat with everyone in the comments makes me feel more and more comfortable every time I film. It makes it feel more real and natural since I know there are actually people watching who I’ll get to chat about it with afterwards, if that makes sense! I don’t know too many people in my day-to-day life who sew, so being able to connect with people here who also love sewing has probably been my favorite part of starting a channel! ☺️💕 Also, so happy to hear my video helped you narrow down your color season! 🍁

Don't worry about wearing black and it being not in "your" colour-wardrobe. I am a spring and wear black occasionally, it's just one of those things that technically, only few people can wear but realistically, given the right accessoires and make-up, more people can pull off. At least that's my experience.
@madewithrach
@madewithrach 7 месяцев назад
Totally agree!! Just trying to be more mindful these days of which colors make me look alive with minimal effort, and black definitely isn’t one of them. Haha Still love it though, and will wear it head-to-toe often! I always feel put together in all black, even if it isn’t totally harmonious with my natural coloring. ☺️
@junimondify
@junimondify 7 месяцев назад
@@madewithrach Yes, I totally get that! And I will wear my best colours in day-to-day activities, but they can look too "loud" for my liking, when all I sometimes want is a bit of sophisticated elegance. Then it's time for the black outfit with rose gold jewellery :)

Another idea for the tweed fabrics: make the mini skirt you suggested for the leather in the black tweed. It would look lovely with the top you are wearing or other turtle necks tops you suggested and be cozy with tights and boots.

Ok. Great. I caught one of your videos and liked it. Scoped out what other videos you have and tried to see if you posted many (which you don't seem to do, unfortunately). You sold me with the 3 I watched, and I specifically made the decision when I watched your "colors" video. That was absolutely the BEST explanation of knowing your color season I have ever seen. Thank you! I had my colors done a couple years ago and found out I was a soft/muted summer (moonlit summer) which I had always before this been told I was an autumn (quite shocking actually....) so following along with your video gave me assurance. Looking forward to more.
@madewithrach
@madewithrach 7 месяцев назад
Awesome, I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying my videos! ☺️ Now that we’re getting settled, I hope to have more consistent uploads. I’m so happy you enjoyed my color seasons video! I guess maybe it makes a little sense you were confused with summer since they’re both muted though! I know soft autumns can borrow from summer and true autumns can borrow from spring. I think I’m more muted than warm, but also a little too high contrast to be a soft season, so it’s confusing! Anyway, I’m so happy you found my channel and I hope to have more videos up soon!

Listening to you discuss your fear of the faux leather I related so much to the sentiment. I too, had an Epiphany recently, where I realized that literally it was just fabric and I can get more. I am not using an antique. I’m not using anything precious or rare. In my case, I’m usually using linen which I love. It can be a little expensive, but I can also get it pretty affordably. I don’t know why am afraid to cut into beautiful fabric. Linen is literally one of the easiest things to sew. It is more of a confidence issue. I have seen your work, and I am confident that you can make faux leather pants :)
@madewithrach
@madewithrach 7 месяцев назад
Thanks so much for the encouragement!! I’m so happy to hear you can relate! 😂 I don’t know what it is! Of course I don’t want to waste perfectly good fabric on a failed project, or have to go spend money on new fabric, but it’s something else I can’t put my finger on and I have to get over it! Haha We need to pump ourselves up and just do it!

I just found your channel maybe 2 or days ago, watched a ton of videos, then saw you hadn’t uploaded in several months and became instantly bummed because I really enjoyed the content! So this was a great surprise!! I am a self taught sewist and aside from about 2 skirts and an apron, I’ve made only craft items (boxed bags, tote bags, a few quilt, pot holders, several baby items such as bibs, burp cloths, teething rings, and play blocks. I learned how to sew so I could see garments and I think that’s what I want to really challenge myself with this year. But it is scary! Craft projects are not nearly as scary 😂 anyway, I’ve enjoyed watching your videos because it does make me feel like sewing clothes is a bit more achievable than how I’ve made it out to seem. Thanks for sharing! Also the fruit print looks like pears to me.
@madewithrach
@madewithrach 7 месяцев назад
Yay, I’m glad you found my channel! I totally know what you mean. I was nervous to make clothing at first because fit is something I never had to consider when sewing household items. It sounds like you’ve made so many cool things already, and it’s good to remember that you’d be using the same skills while making garments! I feel like I’ve lucked out with fit primarily because I’ve chosen to make relaxed, adjustable, flowy, stretchy, or oversized garments. I haven’t really tackled any super tailored projects, but definitely will once I become more confident! I feel like in terms of taking your measurements and following a pattern, you’ll find it’s pretty much the same process you’ve already been doing, just with different shapes! I hope you do end up making some clothes for yourself. It’s so fun and rewarding to be able to wear something you’ve made!

Nothing beats the AsIs room sometimes... Never mind the discount but already built... It's the perfect fabric storage.... Visual stash and enclosed. I moved it from one place to another about 6 times... I'd still be using it, if it didn't get smashed in its last move. Booohoo. IKEA.... Not the sturdiest but functional.
