When Dean takes the camera in hand, it’s almost like being inside his head. Tilt left, tilt right, settle on something, no wait over here, what does a fluorescent light really look like. It’s an exhilarating ride, if you have no inner ear issues. It turns out inside Dean’s head is a busy busy place.

I used to work on these Jeep’s. A little bit of all the different auto manufacturers. Pass everything but a gas station. 10 mpg with timing set properly, 12 -14 with it spark knocking. It was the tow beast of the time. The body goes back to the early 60’s. If you remove grill and headlamps, it looks like it did in the beginning. You don’t want to get hit by one of these. Hell yeah Dean, winner of the beater challenge trophy! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤟🏻🔧🔧 Those Grand Cherokees were all over the states during the 80s and 90s-the rich folks had these while the poor had a minivan. Of course, Chrysler built a wood grain Caravan, too, and it was pricy as it at was white, had tan leather interior, and an upgraded stereo system. I actually worked in a minivan plant in Fenton, Missouri, during the summer of ‘89. Fun stuff!

Jim's Wagoneer, can not be beaten for a winter beater. In good shape it's a very desirable vehicle for any time of year and any where. Fixing sheet metal trim, or anything sheet metal, Scott takes us all to school to learn how do it right and not just with sheet metal, but he has a lot of skill sets for other things as we all know on this channel.

*JIM!* A choice after my own heart, sir. Well played with the ultimate Winter Beater. Like Scott, I'm a sucker for the older Grand Cherokees and Grand Wagoneers, resplendent in all of their quirky AMC glory. AMC engines (V8 please - 360 or 401 especially), 727 Torquefiltes, Dana axles - wonderful and unstoppable. Does that one have the low range selector lever under the seat? I'm also so glad to see a little love laid upon the Plodge. I've been missing her.... Also - is anyone else starting to notice subtle behavior similarities between Frankers and Stella (RIP)? Tell ya what, y'all feel free to hang on to that frozen death from above as long as you like... I've always hated the frosty white stuff myself (kinda comes with being a warm-blooded mammal and all that) and we're still in the 60's-70's during days right now, although the foliage has turned and it's gorgeous out here in the ridges. I'd be happy to live the rest of my days in such weather, I surely would... Anyways, as always THANKS for all your efforts Scott. It's been a grand decade + and I can only wish you MORE success with the channel (that's a hint, all you folks not currently supporting CWM via PATREON). It's truly been a pleasure to be along for the ride, sir. Y'all be safe up there, here until I can't be, -Ed on the Ridge

Loved Dean's quip, "welcome back cotter" when you were disassembling the Fury's seat removing the cotter pin. Epic! And that Grand Wagoneer is an awesome Winter destroyer. I'd definitely be all over fixing the rocker and wheel well rusted areas. It would be hard not to want to restore it. Those are rare even around Southern Colorado. Should be well worth a repair effort and cost. Good to see the Fury move by its own power into Winter storage and work area, looking beautiful! One step at a time.

Nice job with those wheel hub covers for the Fury. I love to see the original wheels (etc.) on these classic cars because some of them were just so fancy. I'd love to see a feature on wheel-hub covers sometime, because there were seemingly endless designs, yet this is often ignored in favour of something more modern. Yes, the Chrysler cars upon purchase the mechanics would adjust the seats for the main driver. They did that when the got "the car Ready" after the sale. Their used to be "options that one could purchase at the dealer and those would be added at this time. I remember my Dad bought a brand new 1956 DESOTO 4 door hardtop. They adjusted the seats, added clear vinyl seat covers, and dual antennae. We waited for hours while all this was done before we drove away. What a MARVELOUS feeling! It was a great car and they sold it in 1969 and bought a new Plymouth Belvedere 4 door hardtop. Yep, a new car every 10 years or so, always a Chrysler product. Yes, your car seen outside-just improves everything!! Great job Scott!! Rich

Ha, I got this notification and literally clicked so fast I didn’t even notice that the thumbnail was a Grand Wagoneer! As the owner of a 1969 Kaiser-Jeep Wagoneer I’m stoked to finally see a full size Jeep on my favorite channel! Although I’ll have to disagree with Scott that the older non wood paneled Wagoneers aren’t as cool as the woodies. 😢 A smaller wood stripe was optional on the pre-‘Grand’ era waggies starting in the early ‘70’s, by the way. I hope this remains a fixture on the channel and receives at least a bit of the attention it deserves. These are indeed now extremely popular to restore, I believe the most established restorer of these Jeeps (Wagonmaster in Texas) sells factory spec turnkey rigs starting around $50k USD and up. I see nice driver quality restored or original woodie Grand Wagoneers advertised for $30-35k (US) all the time, so they’re definitely worth a little something in good condition.

My parents started selling skidoo in 1968. In 69 they took on the Evinrude / Johnson line. They were like Cadillac’s. The early ones had a neutral button on the engine clutch. A nob that pulled out and locked out the dogs in the clutch. Also had stand that flipped down in the back so you could run the track out. IF you could pick that pig up lol. I remember setting those up when they were new. I remember when the Elans first hit the market. That thing was so light compared to everything else on the market and quickly became the sled to put a 399 twin on. We sold chaparrals as well. The CCW engine was a beast. A sled ahead of its time. 👍

Awe man, a Grand Wagoneer. I had an '86 in a maroon colour with the wood. I had it for years. Flip the back seat down for camping...I installed a natural gas system in it toward the end of ownership. I had one in the yard for parts too. Had to let it go due to the frame rot just under the driver's seat I miss that truck !! Should have seen my face when I saw this one !! Great times guys !

Love the Grand Wagoneer. I've always been a fan especially when my uncle bought one new in 1979. I.M.O. that was the best vehicle AMC ever made. It's a way too nice to be a winter beater! I want to restore it too. Good luck to Jim.

Congratulations to Dean for the Winter Beater challenge winner from last year and I agree that it could be a winner for Jim here .... I have to agree with Scott here too ....its worth a save .... I am not crazy about these Jeeps but they are getting super rare ......... Wow ..1973 Johnson snowmobile .... mint and factory equipped with the VDO gauges........ Johnson will shine with a tidy.... major will it run marathon..... The 1960 Fury looked pretty mirror like in the evening light ....... awesome !!!

Everything is getting better and better. I believe if someone happened to stand still at CWM (even for just a minute) they would get their fluids and pressures checked, their dents knocked out, sanded, painted and polished. Then darts and refreshing brewed beverages would be enjoyed. Nice to see the usual suspects this week, Ashter, Jimbo, Deanster etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. The yard is starting to take on a sophistication of sorts. P.S. The Fury and the Boogie Van are very nice vehicles.

Damn, the Fury is as straight as an arrow...great seeing it, outdoors! Nothing like a set of wide WW tires, as well. She's a beauty, Scott!
