Winter Blizzard on the Haul Road: Dalton Diaries-Chapter 2
Join me as I brave harsh Arctic conditions on the Haul Road in Alaska. In this thrilling journey, I gear up my Peterbilt with cold weather protection, setting out on snow-covered roads amidst the looming threat of bad weather. After sleeping at Slope Mountain camp, I encounter roadblocks by a vehicle recovery team on my way north.
Witness the intensity of driving the Dalton Highway in the aftermaths of a blow while journeying into Prudhoe, battling strong winds despite the weather easing from the previous night. Heading south, I face challenges as icy conditions cover my lights, requiring quick action to clear them. Finally, completing the trip at Hilltop, this episode encapsulates the rugged adventures on the Arctic Haul Road.

Tick I used a few times for ice cover lights was to stick some foil on the light. Then just peel it. Hit or miss if it breaks but can work.

The weather does stop hauls. They don't force drivers to be unsafe
@DaltonDarlinAlaskaTrucking
@DaltonDarlinAlaskaTrucking 5 месяцев назад
Absolutely!! Rig moves, road closures, and weather all cause delays up here. Dispatchers are good about not putting too much pressure on us. They trust our judgment, too. It's a symbiotic system. And it seems to work.

I have driven in The Mid-West Kansas and Missouri during the winter. You have to be careful out there. I drove in Germany and Korea both are known for nasty snow. The scariest place I have ever driven during the snow was around Fort Bragg North Carolina. They may get a little snow every few years. In one 30-mile stretch of I-95, we saw 25 to 30 seperate accidents.

I haul fuel in Minnesota and North Dakota so I drive in freezing fog and snow also. One of the windshield wash companies makes a de-icing spray for windshield and lights but I found methanol works the best so I keep a spray bottle with some in it to spray off my lights and stuff. I used to use a card for one of the terminals to scrape off the lights but it may or may not have broke 😮

Can someone explain the cover for the air cleaners?? Usually the colder air going into the turbo doesnt pose a problem for any type of diesel. This is something ive never seen before
@DaltonDarlinAlaskaTrucking
@DaltonDarlinAlaskaTrucking 7 месяцев назад
The covers are for the snow. Air intakes get clogged and can kill a motor when there's nothing covering them. I've heard of drivers throwing T shirts over their intakes during blizzards. You have to clean them off every once in a while. But it's better than being in a dead truck.

would a clear flexible cover like a phone screen protector make for easy iced up light clearing?
