Winter Camping in a Quinzee City

I would love to see a quinzee apartment complex. Lol. One giant mound and you each carve out your own hole next to each other. Dont know if 8ts physically possible but that would be kinda sweet.

I lived in Kazakhstan for 8 years. The national dish is Beshbarmak made with horse meat. Most delicious! I tried finding horse meat in Texas to make the dish but it is illegal to transport or possess horse meat here.

You should carry a gas lantern with you and when you are done building it you can put the lantern inside on a low setting and leave it inside for an hour or so so the heat melts the inside a little and the take it out and then by the time you are ready for bed it gets a good ice coating on it

Sorry to be a pest ,it was not my intention to upset your subscribers, but to sit through a two hour video is very difficult, like you I’m a do,er I don’t like to sit still for too long. I do love your stile of videos, I do a lot of wild camping and stealth camping here in Scotland in the (Cairngorm mountains) about 1 1/4 hours drive from Aberdeen. I have tried to video my camps but I forget to set up the camera. Like everyone else I missed monty. Otb to you and your friends.

I could never sleep in a quinzee. I wouldn't even be able to be calm going through the tunnel. I'ma stick to 4 season tents.

M. Posa: why build a Quinzee on the ice and take the chance of break through the ice? Make a tarp shelter T-Pee and mound snow on it. Then build a fire nearby won’t be melting snow on lake.

Hey, Matt, take some an advice from an old guy that has been doing what you are doing for a long time: Quanzees are fun and they are comfortable, but they are dangerous. Sure, sometimes they might cave in, but that is not the concern. What happens - and surely you have seen this yourself - they shrink The walls gradually shrink into the inside of the quanzee. I was camping in a quanzee with a couple friends and my dear old dad. I woke up on the second or third night and the ceiling of the quanzee was about 2" from my chest and the chests of everybody in the quanzee. We were trapped like being in a coffin. As you know, the walls of the quanzee get to be rock hard ice, so you can't just bust your way out, especially if your arms are trapped inside your sleeping bag. I was fortunately able to wiggle out like a bookworm through the entrance and then grab my friends' feet one-by-one and pull them out. If we had slept a couple hours longer, we might not have been able to get out. You don't hear about it much because so few people winter camp in quanzees. However, you DO hear about kids who make snow forts that cave in and kill them. Same thing - only slower.

Eating steak with your hands or on a stick is the best way to go when you're outside. Haha! I loved the decapitation of the ostrich. A friend of mine carved a cross with an ax way back in the day on a weekend getaway, so I was waiting to see how a carved ostrich would turn out. This outcome was funnier! What was the thought behind sawing that big log around the 1:15 mark? Couldn’t you have just kept feeding it into the fire? Wolf howls! Awesome! No wolves where I live, but I get just as excited when I hear coyotes yipping and barking. That venison stew looked delicious. Wolf tracks, too! That’s awesome! The Quinzhee City looked great. A Quinzhee wouldn’t suit me, because of the bit of claustrophobia I have, but it’s always good to know what can be done in a survival situation. Thanks for sharing your awesome winter expedition. The scenery was amazing! I apologize for so many comments, but it was a two hour video. :)

Hi Matthew still watching your video but, I just had to pause and tell you I’m really enjoying it! You have this excellent shot from the distance of the three Quinzee’s and one guy on the far left, shoveling and tossing the snow on top of his quinzee but, I don’t see you and the other fellows. so, I’m thinking; where did Matt and the other guys go? I see the snow flying up over the top of the other two Quinzee I just laughed my head off LOL.
