Lol Frosty the Snowman in human form He has THE BEST weather camping videos I play one in the background everynight to fall asleep,i hope he never stops
Thanks RU-vid for for bringing me here. Epic video! Thanks for putting the gear list up like that too. Super helpful, I don’t have to keep taking notes during. I’ll have to watch more.
am struggling with sleep(insomnia) and I think a trip like this in a desert will be the best cure. those who live far away from people are the happiest.
Oh God how much how much snow is there thank you very much for your video with this in this difficult situation I like your video very much thank you very much for your sharing your
I could feel that cold wind right through the screen! Quite a dramatic contrast in weather from when you arrived at camp until the blizzard in the nighttime! Thank you 🙏 for another excellent winter camping video.
I did five winters in the Arctic when I was UK forces and remember the extra mental efort required to do even simple tasks. Even though the kit is much lighter and more effective now it still requires you get your shit together. This guy has.
Pulling your clothes into your sleeping bag to warm them reminded me of my childhood. We had to do the same in the mornings because we had no central heating and the condensation on the bedroom windows would freeze. I thought those days were behind us but with the energy prices they seem to have returned.
The stuff you go through for our entertainment you have my respect because I could not do all that you do in those freezing temps stay safe and God bless
Absolutely gorgeous location. But a cold tent and no fire? You are amazing for sure. Loved the video and appreciate your very hard work in filming for us all. So you are doing double the work getting the great shots.
Yes, I was one of those asking about the gear you put on over your boots & legs prior to walking around camp. Thanks. Good move, to put clothing into your sleeping bag to warm 'em B4 getting into 'em. I'm certain you were pleased that you'd carried all the extra weight of all those layers of clothing that you NEEDED, to keep warm. The MOST USED/REUSED equipment on this planet is your stove, cup, & dinky coffee cup you drink out of. Your video would be missing a key element if you didn't included some coffee making footage in each & every video. Good ole Hilleberg, providing its usual 5-star accommodations out in the boonies. You've definitely got top-of-the-line equipment for your sleep system with the XTherm inflatable air mattress & Western Mountaineering Puma sleeping bag. This is the first time I've noticed that thick wool sweater. No dinner, can't blame you once you got comfy cozy inside your sleeping bag. Who needs/wants food once they're comfy warm inside their sleep system. Why didn't you put snow around the base perimeter of you tent like you usually do?⏩ Coffee & Chocolate - Breakfast of Champions.😀 Thanks for elaborating on the gas canisters you use & WHY. Did your new Baffin Winter Boots meet with your approval? Thank you for including a gear list at the end of this video. Special THANK YOU for sharing your adventures with lil ole MEeee. Warm Regards from bone dry Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
The stove is certainly something I cherish a lot, very happy with the Baffins. I didnt put snow around my tent because there wasnt much snow and i didnt feel like it would have had much effect, I feel I need quite a bit of snow to make it efficient, the tent held up well regardless. Thanks always Bill!
Good looking motorcycling road for in the summer. Love it when the mosquitos are gone and the snakes are in the den. Sometimes I wonder at what temp point these magical lightweight synthetics break from the cold temps. Natural materials are great but heavy. At the height you are sitting it's like working in a coal mine. You have to roll around to move/change direction. Much unlikely the sky will fall on you like in a mine. Somedays you just have to bone up and get out there and go. It's not going to get any better. It's a big part of the adventure and somewhat fun and self gratifying. Yeah, you did it. Take care Jarl. Be tough up in that saddle at the end. Winter has its' beauty. That is a beautiful place.
@@NorwegianXplorer I could see and hear the equipment working preesumably clearing snow on the road. That's a good place with running water for now. The pass up above you looked very interesting, you know, a real test of endurance and environment to camp at. Maybe a slight breeze. I have a Hilleberg Staika coming this week. Seriously considering a Tarra for serious camping. Very strong. Use it in the Rockies and in Blue Ridge Mountains. They are pretty close to home when I'm in Kentucky. Too dark in Alaska right now, brutal. Will be expecting to see the trip beyond the campsite. Be prepared, careful.
It makes me trembling in my armchair.... ! The lowest temperature I've ever known was minus 10 degrees by us in Flanders, Ghent. It was in 1955, mornings at 8 o'clock when I went to school, on foot. Little girl of 10 years old. Skating on the frozen river was possible..... Incredible you can sleep by such temperatures, but not very well I think... Nevertheless : you did it ! Bravo Jarl ! - Those trees with their capriciously curling branches are beautiful ! Postcards in white, grey and black, all colours have gone...
Oh as always, another awesome video my friend! I just noticed this one pop up, so i had to watch it immediately, although i've much to do today & tomorrow. ONLY Norwegian Xplorer, can get my immediate online attention! lol This is a beautiful 43 mins of viewing & of course, your filming & cinematography skills are A1! It's funny these days, with the new trend of much shorter videos etc;, but i still love watching longer videos, especially when yours appear. Tusen takk for sharing & i look forward to your next adventure & video!
Wow, that was cold. How you do it without freezing to death is amazing. I was getting cold just watching. Very interesting area and perhaps very dangerous area since it seemed as if nobody lived there year round. Good video. I can't wait to see what you are going to do next. Stay safe and warm.
Second video I've seen where the "other" liquid is shown - those large caps help I'm sure 🙂 Ah, the joys of being a middle-aged (or older) man camping!
I love to see people camp in the winter it’s all so interesting of how they handle the weather I am subscribed to so many campers but you are the only one that be in xtreme temperatures why don’t you take a hot stove with you for heat it’s dangerous to get to cold
Nice trip NorEX! I like what you are doing with your videography these days. I’m thinking about trying a 2 or 3 person Hilliberg tunnel tent? I’m finding my Soulo to be just a bit small for me on longer trips? Merry Christmas!🎉 EDIT: beautiful country there! Reminds me of my Idaho wilderness? Never been to Scandinavia, one of these days, hopefully.
You are the real-life Mads Mikkelsen from the movie Arctic ;) Surviving in those conditions is a huge skill and being able to produce such nice videos about it is great for us viewers! Really nice.
That little Primus stove is a wonder! Always amazed at how much gear you can pack into what you carry on your back!! I think you need a respite - come back to the desert SW of the US!!
What a switch in the weather! It started out so peaceful and serene. Were you warm enough in the sleeping bag? or was it just too cold? I loved the shots of the moon and stars over your campsite. The calm before the storm! lol Beauifully shot and edited, Jarl Stay safe out there. 😊❤
I so understand your discomfort of not having a pit in front of your tent , I'm 55 and not as flexible as I use to be 😄 . Never saw that kind of Coleman gaz canister here in Québec ( Canada ) , we do have some products from that company like white gaz or propane but not that canister , it would be great to find it here , I'l have to make some research . The ground didnt seem to be frozen hard yet as you where able to put your pegs into it with the help of your tool ( how do you call this tool in english, its not my first langage 🙂? ) Thanks for the cold and windy video ! We are waiting for our first snowstorm of the year in the Montreal area , friday there is suppose to be up to 35-40 cm of snow , cant wait 🤗
Hey Bon, yeah, the ground is frozen but I managed to use my iceaxe to punch through the upper layer, this was in a meadow that is usually quite swampy, so below the top layer of gras there isnt any hard soil, so it worked. I believe primus has winter gas as well, maybe you have those? Brown Primus canisters.
So, did you just survive on 2 small ‘cups’ of coffee, 1 satsuma and a tiny bowl of oats and sultanas. Doesn’t seem very much for such a trip especially given the cold 43:23 conditions. Why do you not use a proper cup for drinking as opposed to that small glass container? Great video. Makes one feel as if they are there with you. It’s a real skill to be able to do that. Thanks a lot.
10:15 From that camera angle, the tent looks huge inside and cozy. When you're in the tent and it's closed, does it get warmer in the tent compared to outside?
I’ve got both knees and both shoulders replaced with titanium and when it gets 30 degrees Fahrenheit they start hurting.Don’t see how you can do this in that conditions.Enjoyed the video.I’ve never seen the gas bottles that can be down to -27 degrees here in the United States.
I always enjoy the winter trips. Living in Northern Ontario we are just getting snow after a mild fall. I wonder why you do not pitch camp among the trees for a bit of shelter from that wind? Looking forward to more trips! 🎄🎄
Hey Jarl, are you a fan of Terje Rypdal? Good to have a nice tent in such a storm! Are you ever concerned there will be so much snow you can't get out?
@@NorwegianXplorer I am an ardent fan of Terje Rypdal. I saw him in concert at the Great American music Hall in San Francisco. What a treat! And a rare one. I salute you for your backpacking endeavor!
The gear credits scrolling at the end with the ominous music reminds me of horror film endings. PS: Adopt a dog from a shelter and bring them along for company.
Good video. Takk for det. I use a Soulo, but that Nallo 3 looks very tempting, at least a Nallo 2 would be good for me, and they weigh the same as the Soulo. I have a question: I lived in Norway for 5 years, and I know that by 4:30 pm (you mentioned that it was 4:30) at this time of year, it is definitely dark. So, in which country did you film this winter adventure? Good job on the filming, too.
@@NorwegianXplorer Do you refill nearly empty canisters with a fuel transfer valve? I do! Always, begin with a FULL 4oz canister, never a partially full canister.
Did you get a drop of sleep with it so freezing? You are so nice to share your gear tips. How far did you have to hike to get back to your vehicle. That had to be a bit harder without much sleep. When I was watching, the thought hit me that you being alone could be a bit more risky in dangerously extreme weather, but then the thought came that you are well experienced so I trust in your ability to make out. Going with you through watching your videos is so enjoyable the places you take us! Just beautiful and exciting the way a day or night can turn out for you, due to weather.
Ok. Too cool man! I’m so glad you could rest and sleep in such treacherous conditions. I’ll never forget that horrible lightening trip. That was scary! I just never want you in harm. Thanks for sharing! God bless you and hello from Georgia, USA
Happy Holidays Jarl (smiles & hug) It has been on my mind for awhile ....now (blink).....and there seems 2 B .......no way nice to say this >>>> PLEASE JARL....make your 'videos' shorter in time. Whoooooooooa....I finally said that?!? Yes. I did. I LOVE YOU JARL. Make no mistakes about it. I TRUELY LOVE & LIKE YOU....A LOT. They have done 'studies'. And? And, it's been proven that PEOPLE have a super short FOCUS SPAN. Which means? Which means that 15 to 20 minutes MAXIMUM seems to be the LIMIT that the people will hold their "attention to" for any given subject. So? So, there are things in our LIFE that GUARANTEE SUCCESS. "TAKE ADVANTAGE OF these things.......(wink). "THANK YOU JARL" for sharing your wonderful Adventures with us (WARM hug). GOD BLESSES ALL.
@@azclaimjumper I am, but I am posting extended versions, and will be posting shorter versions as well, probably next fall going into holiday season. It seems the various length reaches different audiences.
@@azclaimjumper Please RE-read what I wrote Jarl. I do not want him to "DIS"continue what he is doing. I, merely, explained to Jarl that STATISTICS show the LIMIT to an Individual's Attention Span. Taking ADVANTAGE of STATISTICS is an excellent advantage to this "YOU TUBE GAME"....is not only smart but VALUABLE. GOD BLESSES ALL. Footnote: Do you suppose the "attention spans" of those that watch for MORE than 15 minutes is "THE NORM"? You would be "MIS"taken (wink).
@@NorwegianXplorer I DO...(smile). However, most people will NOT take the time to do this.....REMEMBER THE STATISTICS....Jarl. If you are aiming to have MORE Subscribers? Then, use these STATISTICS to your advantage. GOD BLESSES ALL.
@@NorwegianXplorer At home the female black bear and snakes are in the den when it's like that, male black bears may be out. Saw them several times in almost meter deep snow this time of year, December. Other than that the usual deer, elk, coyotes and fox are around. Of course, man.
