Winter chub fishing River Ouse Patric Kyte - Feb 2020. I caught 5 chub between 5 - 7 and 6 - 3 in three short trips. Also shows a double figure Ouse barbel, I went to the Verulam Angling Club stretch at Milton Ernest. Patric Kyte
In case anyone is a bit mystified, OO OO is code for River Great Ouse as opposed to oo oo River Little Ouse. Its good to be back on the Ouse and to get some chub and that barbel, it’s not fished enough. We need more anglers and more bait going in. I had the stretch to myself on each of the three sessions.
@@patrickyte6281 You obviously know the stretch well when fishing in those conditions, only chub l had in March 2021 from the Ouse above Bedford that took a lure was grabbed by an otter under my rod tip!! The chub went back okay despite its close encounter!!
Hi Patric I fish this stretch quite a lot.. I’ve had lots of small chub this summer. Not been for barbel yet but I will do next year if if conditions suit before season is out. It’s an amazing stretch . I’ve had one chub at 4.7lb same as to I’ve never seen anyone there!
Yes I do sometimes fish the near bank with a couple of SSGs. That is the way I have been brought up to chub fish and I very much enjoy that method. The trouble is that in the small island spot that I was fishing, as I mentioned in the video, there are lots of really extensive tree roots under where I was sitting and going out into the water a bit,so that was why I was fishing the far bank there. My other consideration is that there aren't many chub in the Ouse, these days due to predation etc. So for the past few years I found a feeder to be best, so as they can be attracted into the area where I am fishing. I do use the lightest feeder, I can manage with under the conditions for that day i.e. doesn't swing round out of position.
Yes, I was using boilies as they sink well in flood conditions. Just use something meaty, or cheese flavour. Use something that you have confidence in. Using your own flavour could give you an edge as they may wise up to boilies others are using.
When its low and normal conditions I usually use and eleven foot rod with a pound and a quarter test curve, one with a quiver tip. In high water I use and eleven foot pound and a half test curve rod. Sometimes I am lazy and use whichever one I have already set up from the trip before.
@@patrickyte6281 - thank you. I have started fishing again after a long break. I wasn’t sure which rod to buy and have been looking at the Drennan Specialist Twin Tips in both 1.25 and 1.5lb test curve and was wondering whether to go for the lower or higher test curve but I guess both will do the job.
It doesn't really mater what you put in the feeder. It's main purpose is to add a scent trail to attract the fish to the hook bait. I vary what I put in the feeder, sometimes some ground bait and particles. Sometimes I add luncheon meat as that gives off a good scent trail. Sometimes I don't put anything in the feeder at all and still catch. It is up to you to experiment and see what works for you, which is all part of Angling.
