Large and smallmouth are definitely still active all winter, they are just harder to locate. I’m in WV on the Shenandoah but I generally mostly fish ponds this time of year for largemouth because the currents are just not my thing in the winter months.

You're right, both largemouth and smallmouth can be surprisingly active even in winter. Finding them in colder water does take some adjustment. Ponds sound a bit more of a safe. I could imagine the Shenandoah gets pretty fast and brisk. It's that time of year I pray I don't slip and fall in.

That's how it goes sometimes, especially this time of year... but you (and me) been catching them through November and into December which is pretty good! This week, the Susquehanna is unfishable due to heavy rain but last week, we did pretty well on a drop shot minnow and a keitech swimbait on a jighead... both in the deeper holes and eddies... just like you are targeting out there. It sure does as much as I hate to admit it. This time of year is very finicky and what worked yesterday barely gets a bite the next. We were both getting them into late November for sure. We missed most of the rain here it seems. Our rivers are extremely low still. Hope you're able to get back out. Swimbaits and jigs are my main hitters. Best of luck to you and keep castin.

I feel the struggle, I went out to scout the area and did pretty well the first time with numbers. I came back and caught a chunk, but the past few times were skunks.

@@ZacksRealAdventures yeah man it gets tuff going in the winter fish often move a lot slower and don’t eat as much but can still catch at least one on a bad day
