Winter arrived overnight in Alaska and transformed the scenery around us into a snowy wonderland. Although we were prepared, there is always more work to be done around the cabin.

My mom is 77 years young. She taught my daughter when she was eight years old what sun dogs were. To this day, my daughter, who just turned 27, will text grandma “SUNDOG” every time she see one. And my daughter gets a thrill out of teaching others to look for them and telling people that they mean a change in weather is coming. A MEMORY SHE WILL ALWAYS HAVE OF GRANDMA ❤️

I know it sounds strange but I had a stroke 1 year ago. God blessed me to almost fully recover. I had no memory of who I was or where I was. The PT set a computer laptop in front of me. I could envision your beautiful site and I typed it in Though she said it took a long time but it worked !! Here I could not remember any thing but I could remember you. I then was able to type in others that I remembered during the coming weeks. You really helped me regain most of my memory. You make a big impact on people's lives.

A retired Fireman gave us a woodstove hint that has saved us so much time and work and possibly a fall off our steep roof: He advised us to throw a large scoop ( we use an old cereal bowl full) of barn lime on top of red hot coals in your stove, about once a week or so. It reacts with the creosote and makes it flake off and our chimney is always clean and we haven't had to brush it in over 40 years. The flakes fall down the chimney and you just periodically clean them out. No brushing, no falls and NO CHIMNEY FIRES. We've never burned pine, which has a lot more creosote but I would think it would work on that as well. It's a very inexpensive safeguard. We love watching you two. You remind us of ourselves when we were younger.

I just want to say thank you, my brother absolutely loved living in Alaska and he would send me postcards of the beautiful places he seen while living there. He moved back to Oklahoma in his early thirties when he was diagnosed with cancer to be closer to family unfortunately we lost him when he was 35. Everytime I watch your videos I'm in awe of the beautiful places and the pictures you take of nature and it warms my heart to think he saw the same types of breathtaking views and that is why he fell in love with living there. So thank you I feel like you have given me back a part of him. It will be 20 years in January that we lost him and I miss him dearly every day.

Magical is the perfect word to describe Winter. Snow quiets everything, so it's so peaceful. The nights are bright because the snow refracts the light of the moon, and the skies are so clear the stars are amazing. Out here in the countryside, we can look up see the Milky Way. I love it!

Loved the washing machine with the ringer. I grew up with it and loved how you could customize the water levels and soap according to type of clothes. Do several rinses as needed. Wring out clothes folded then hang to dry. Even before perma press clothes they came out pretty wrinkle free and easy to fold. It was very satisfying. Todays units are efficient but impersonal. I enjoy watching your program and admire your creativity, tenacity and sense of adventure and humour.

Been watching your videos off and on the past two years, binging the past three days (retired, resident of the Lower 48, living in Thailand). Watched the entire move process and relocation. We are really impressed with what you two accomplish from laying concrete, to electric, to plumping and construction, use of various power tools - you know no fear. You two are basically what most folk were back in 40's, 50's, etc. when there was NO money for contractors and families got together to build barns, homes, fix cars, etc. Question: What could possibly have prepared you both for all you do, from bees to chickens, hunting, fishing, and all the home construction, WOW! Thanks for incredibly beautiful vistas.

If you have a wood chipper you can use the chips for the chicken coop, then to mulch the garden. Of course a few more steps than just throwing on the burn pile, but so good for the garden to feed the soil and keep the weeds under control. So much work completed this week!

I'm enjoying your home! I have a wood burner here in Omaha NE, and I found a way to clean the glass in minutes with water! No chemicals! You crumble up about half a page of newspaper, dip the paper in the water (don't soak it, just a quick dip), then dab the wet paper in the ashes from the wood burner. Doesn't take much so not too messy. Then you wipe the glass with the newspaper and the soot comes off in seconds, like magic! If it's really dirty it might take a few runs. I found it on a youtube video from England, but don't have the video now.

Eric better get busy filling the woodshed with dry wood. From the angle that I could see into your woodshed, I don't think you have enough in there to last until the end of November! I couldn't help but think that was some really nice logs you were tossing onto the burn pile. Rotten wood burns fast, doesn't last very long and it doesn't put out a great amount of heat, but it burns infinitely better than no wood at all in the middle of a raging snow storm! Can't wait to watch a video of you two just sitting back by the wood stove and just relaxing in your cozy cabin. Make a pot of coffee, warm your hands on a steaming cup and stare out of windows on a winter wonderland. BTW, if there was a contest to vote for the coolest cat on the internet, your cat would have my vote. He's kind of a cross between a house cat and a long haired bobcat that just allows us to live in his world because we know how to open a can of cat food and he doesn't!

I really like how you did time lapse photography on the burning debris. It's amazing how that fire really consumed those logs, etc. Tres Cool!

Excited to see that your new calendar is out. For the last couple of years, I have put the calendar in my office in the rehab hospital that I work at in northern Ontario, Canada. As an Occupational therapist, I see lots of clients/patients that see your calendar and always comment how beautiful the pictures are. Thanks for sharing.

OH GOSH!! I remember as a kid, about 4 years old, getting my arm run through that roller on the washing machine. That would make it back in 1950. My biggest memory is the scream that came with the squashing of the arm. No damage done thought but I was sure scared.

How you guys are able to get calendars, videography, etc.,done and still film your daily adventures just blows my mind! Thank you so much! Watching the opening scenes brings down my stress level so quickly! So peaceful, so stunning! I never knew those little rainbow spots were called sun dogs! I have a new wrinkle in my brain! Love this channel! (Hint, hint, how about a coffee table book of your photographs?)

I love the shot of the swans! I think they are some of the most beautiful birds ever. And I love watching them with their young. You two are so good about showing your viewers the beauty that you are living in. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us. The eye to detail that you two use to make the shots even more beautiful and Eric your talent with putting the perfect music with certain scean are almost magical. Seriously, you two are so talented and we are so very blessed to be able to just sit back and enjoy the show! You guys work so hard to ink out a living in the harsh yet beautiful Alaska and seem to be having a blast while you're doing it! Keep the videos coming because we are ALWAYS ready to see what you guys have been up to since the last time we "talked". Stay safe and warm.
