In wintertime Helsinki indeed is quiet, especially if there is the snow. The more snow, the more quiet.

- Right now (Janyary) we have snow here in Helsinki, Finland (8cm of snow today). - It is very likely YES, that you will see snow also in the end of January in Helsinki, Finland, but we cannot guaranteed it. As far as I know there has been snow in Helsinki in every winter. But it may not last continuously every day from the December to Febryary. If temperature is getting warmer and it rains (water) the snow may disappear. But when it gets colder again and it rains, snow will come back very fast (one day) again. - If Helsinki doesnt have snow when you came here Helsinki, you can always travel with train 2 hour up north to the Tampere City, Finland (23cm of snow today). Snowline is more reliable there. - More guaranteed snow? Lappland, Finland: YES! If you want see more snow and have more guaranteed snow go to Lappland. Lappland is located in the Nort of Finland. In the Lappland there is much more snow (73cm of snow today), because it is more North and there is much colder in the winter time and the cold period is also longer. Snow Time: late November - April. (But sometimes snow can come early as Late September and last till May). From Helsinki Center there is train connection to the Lappland, Rovaniemi, Finland. It takes one day (about 12h) to travel to the Rovaniemi from the Helsinki. More info if you want to travel to the Lappland, Rovaniemi, Finland: www.visitrovaniemi.fi --- How much Snow is enough? - Many Finnish person like Cross-country skiing. If it is not enough snow you can not do that. Lappland you can do that but in south of Finland like Helsinki you can not do that so often. Sometimes yes and right now you can do that, and that is great. How much is enough cold? - When it gets really cold the sea will get frozen front of the Helsinki. What is nice? - When it is just about zero (celsius) temperature you can make many things from the snow easily, like snowball or snowcastle etc. --- We would like to remember you that. ValoXIII dont expect much from Helsinki. Every year we have less and less snow because of the city emissions and warmer temperature. Hopefully you get a chance at travelling a bit more north for more snow :)
