Winter Mountain Hiking - Snow Hiking - A Mountain hike to remember on the best winter day in years!
A one day window after a week of snow and I headed to a snowy Glencoe and one of the best views across Scotland's Mountains . Deep snow and blue skies above the white mountains made it a day in the hills that I wouldn't forget quickly!

Totally gorgeous, has me hankering for that magical feeling of being near the summit and just soaking it all in and letting the new views slowly get revealed... god this is a terrible time.

Its weird, I never liked getting up early for a day shift for work but doing it for a hill day was never an issue :-) Also like the wee sequence at 8.10 negotiating the wee "bergschrund" :-) Quality vid Murray.

Thats an excellant hill Murray. I went up it the first time the day before the second lockdown started because I new I wouldn't get out on the hills for a while. Not another person in sight. The views are magnificent.

As I sit here at ‘OMG it’s early’ and ponder what’s in store for the new day, a welcome notification from RU-vid has already given me a ray of sunshine. Another great episode Murray. You could easily make two episodes from this one. The second could be entitled ‘How and why I position my B roll camera sequences’ I like how you position your camera showing you moving through the scene without any other footprints. Amazing! I was up there too at the same day from the morning with the beautiful sunrise! I saw all the tracks you left behind and thought to myself it be so nice to have one of those snow shoes! as it was really deep powder! Amazing video

Superb ! I think secretly you must have an entire camera crew in tow ?! Setting up these great shots where you're walking into view and then marching away from camera - jeezaloo these must take ages to set up ? - and then you've still got to come back to retrieve the gear...! And here's the thing - as you walk into view - no footprints in the snow.....! Great work Murray, well done.

Great hill views, with Murray in all the right gear. That coment includes the kitchen, the kettle is faster than a jet boil, but the clear winner for speed is the microwave, porridge in seconds.

Thank you for this wow truly awesome. I'm sorry that I have only been to Scotland once but was really lucky, the night before I flew to Inverness it had snowed and was completely white. I will never forget the views near Fort William fantastic wherever you looked. Thank you

That was Sensational Murray!! Not exactly a casual wander up the hill (looked like tough work) but the rewards were fantastic. Just three weeks ago, we flew over to Scotland from Australia for our two week photography tour and Beinn a'Chrulaiste was top of my hit list - you might remember we discussed the best way to ascend. ....then the world changed. We ended up spending the weekend in Scotland with one amazing day in Glencoe, shooting like crazy, then got on a plane and flew back to Sydney. Oh well, there's always next time eh 😉 You're making it hard to choose the top ten videos my friend! Great camera work too 👌👌

another great video Murry, you were saying about taken 2 to 3 times as long in the deep snow, it must take you 5 to6 times as longer having to stop and go up and back down to get the camera, Still got some snow on the tops here in wester-ross, Tanks for the video, Stay safe.

Great video. Have you ever been to the Rocky Mountains? I moved to Colorado from Florida and became a lot more serious about hiking. I got into 14,000 foot peaks (climbed 35 my first year) and now have got into ice climbing. Just recently I began publishing RU-vid videos of these experiences and I have never been happier. There was a ton of discomfort involved, but the pay off is priceless. Keep at it!

Beautiful video! How are the Scottish mountains for ski touring? I see even at the top there's still a lot of rock poking out. Is that usually the case or are there periods with heavy snow cover?

Natalie Up North hi - not an expert but the hills in the east maybe better under certain co fiona as there are wider plateau’s etc - maybe try googling ski touring in the Cairngorms as I think they are a good area for this 👍 Stay safe and thanks for watching ATB Murray

Are you wearing mountaineering boots? Im in Canada, in the Rockies, so its colder here than there. I do a lot of hiking, but I want to do more winter hiking. I got myself a good set of Baffin Winter boots, but wondering on what would be good for hiking in the cold. If I need to I'll wear my winter boots, but its not really for "hiking. I would consider mountaineering boots, good insulated ones, but I don't know how I'd feel with it being extremely stiff. I did hike with stiff hiking boots, but moved on to hiking in trail running shoes, but a mountaineering boot would definitely be a lot more stiff.

Hi Michael - I cant comment on footwear for your area but for me in Scotland I will always have crampon (not microspike) compatible boots for winter conditions for sure :) good luck Thanks for watching ATB Murray
