Winter Nights 

Winter Nights was created with the support of The Source Arts Centre in Thurles, Tipperary
You're outside your home, in the late hours of an icy, Winter night.
You hear the wind whistle through the trees, see frost drift like a silk scarf over the rooftops and down into the road, illuminated only by the milky light of the moon; the wind's like a gentle hand, beckoning, pulling at your sleeves and your coattails - you walk;
You're far from home now, feeling the rush of the water as you pass the Curragower falls in the dark of night, stepping tentatively in newly fallen snow on grass - afraid to intrude on the untouched, stillness of it all...
You walk;
As dawn starts to break on a cold and misty morning, you find you're home again.
The wind drops, and the birds sing.
Beara, the goddess of Winter, passed through in the night, her elegant hand touching all in her path. The yearning for warm sun and the eruption of new blooms battles with the yearning to see breath on air, bathe in the purple-blue of winter sunsets, breathe in this absolute stillness.
I like the haze
Of winter nights
In early January
Watching the birds
Dancing on high
Making the season merry
Spring drifts in,
Steals away the edge of winter nights
I like the chill
Frost in the air
Like powder blue organza
Whole world is still
Swaddled in frost
It seems to slumber and the
Spring comes in,
Steals away the edge of winter nights
Winter's sun sits low, and cold it burns
Beara's hand awaits her turn
Paints all the world blue and white and grey
Her fingers through the blind
Delicately brush your eyes to herald the day
Limerick-based artists Emma Langford and Alec Brown combined their creative talents to create "Winter Nights", an immersive long-form piece of music bringing the listener on a wintery walk along the Shannon River. The piece, inspired by the magic of moonlight and mist, originated as an acapella, lyrical piece which emerges as the track evolves. The listener can hear the fall of snow, footsteps in frozen grass, the rush of the Curragower falls, and the whistle of the wind through the trees.
Langford and Brown used traditional instruments to create non-traditional sounds in this experiential piece, in which lyrical songwriting meets soundscaping.
