My parents moved to Winter Park in the late 50s and built there first home in 64 off Park Ave. I absolutely loved growning up there! The Toggery, the Hdden Gardens, the chain of lakes....I loved the drug store fountain counter :) I love seeing the white gloves :) Did you notice...no Jeans! times have sure changed for us women! So has our communication....the telephone and power lines being brought in :)Thank you Emory for sharing this. I want to keep this video for a long time.
I was born to Sue and Phil Pendleton (of 1231 Via Salerno) in Winter Park in '66. My Dad, Phil, was at Dartmouth when Thad Seymour was its President. Phil Pendleton was a local small business owner (Cigarette Vending Co. Inc.) in Winter Park for almost 30 years. Wow, what a trip down memory lane!
McCoy airport named after the AF pilot who stayed with his B - 52 as it went down in a non populated area. Saving his crew, who bailed and countless people who might have died in the crash.
I am curious if any if those businesses are still around. I did notice the video claimed the Maitland Art Center and Jai-Alai as it's own. One building I'm glad is gone is the "government building" they mentioned on Denning. That thing was uuuugly. Was the Winter Park Mall not around back then? And where was that Publix. I love looking back at local history.
