Winter Sea Fishing for Cod is a favourite of so many anglers in the UK. Today I revisit my home town of Whitby and fish with my friend from Whitby's East Pier. We explain the baits, the rigs and the tactics for fishing for cod from the shore.
For more information about CART bait, here is Tom's detailed magazine feature explaining everything about the subject. hookpoint.co.u...
Here are links to some of the tackle we used in this session. I hope it helps.

Thanks again John...and Tom of course. Seeing you use the scratching rig takes me back to being sat on the side of the harbour having a fishing contest with my mates. Two hooks, twice the chance, and a lot of species ticked off, right at your feet (like you said). I agree, it sure does fill in the time when waiting for that bigger bite on the other rod. Thanks for triggering all the good memories. Good luck with the Cod, hope you both catch a good'un. All the best to all. TL

Your channel has been one of those things that sustained me, which is really interesting as I have been a veggie for 38 years, I am one of those ‘ANNOYING VEGGIES’, in h that I really don’t care what people eat so long as they show the animal respect. I still believe I should get a lifetime discount from Hook Line and Sinker after my last escapade on the East pier - nearly had to remortgage my house to replace the gear I lost - still, box was about 2 stone lighter walking back so...every cloud and all that. Cracking video as always! Thanks for posting

Fresh fish no matter what kind Kylie is the key.If it smells of fish, and the eyes are cloudy it's passed it's time.Give it a try, maybe fish and chips to start or a nice piece of Flounder as it's mild.

You should have stuck around until lunch and gone to either The Magpie, Royal Fisheries or Trenchers. You'd have got a decent sized Cod in any of those! Mind you the breakfast looked good. Look forward to seeing you back on the boat.
