Aidan, Dylan and I head out for a local squid session, which turned into a snook fest! Found a hungry school and ended up catching a lovely bag in a quick 2 hour session.

Here in Queensland we get them all year round, but winter is best. Anywhere with some depth and structure will hold them, particularly on a running tide. There's no size limit and they get up to about 120cm. We call them yellowtail pike but they're a type,of barracuda. Excellent live bait for kingfish, snapper, tuna.

Had one about 80cm plus off smoky bay jetty one day chasing our gar, threw a gar out on 80lb fluro leader and still got bitten off. Gave up after that.

Hey Alex, if you're keeping them for bait, be better not to snap the neck and leave the blood in it. Just a thought anyway. Be safe on the water too mate, there's been a nice size white swimming locally of late. He was around the pylons at the semaphore jetty the other weekend and around outer harbour. 👍

Hi Alex, there is a question about how to hook the snook tightly? i ve been to Stenhouse bay jetty last weekend, hooked 5 big snook in an hour, but all didnt managed to land them on to the jetty, 1 cut the line,2 jump on the surface and drop the hook, other 2 drop the hook when i lift them to the jetty. I used the 12lb leader , softplastic and the jic head hook. How can i improve it ,cheers

Hi Lun! They are such violent fish, they tend to shake the hooks out a lot. Could be that your jighead hook size might be too small? Try using a 1/0 jighead. Might increase the landing rate.

What size hook are you using? You may need to go up a size. That might reduce the number of drops?
