I use my hot glue gun (minus the glue stick) to poke holes in jugs. Makes it quick & easy. I’m planting yarrow in my pollinator garden this year.

I have heard that before but I have yet to use one for this, of course that would mean digging it out from wherever I have it stashed. Good idea for sure.

Very nice! I winter sowed that last year from Botanical Interest and I'm doing more this year. Had very good success with it. That's one of my favorite seed company's and I can buy it local from my family owned grocery and nursery store here in N.Y zone 6a. Little suggestion, I use a soldering Iron for my milk jugs. It's so easy to do. I prep about 24 jugs at a time in the fall and then when I feel like planting their already and I don't have to bother with my screw driver over my gas stove lol.

I love to winter sow. I am like you and do several jugs as I have time until Spring. Start the perennials now and less hardy seeds closer to Spring.

Yep, that is such an easy and cheap way to go about it.

This was a great video very detailed. Good I appreciate the time you took and I really like this way of Winter sewing. I think it's wonderful that you gave Annie credit for her cat walking on her soil and that you remembered where you read it. The knowledge we gain over time from so many Different sources make us the gardener we are today. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much! Yes, I agree, learning from so many different sources then trying it out yourself is so valuable. I have been to Annies Annuals a few times, it is a 3 hour drive from me, and so worth the trip. Such unique options that no one else grows for the masses! I need to make another trip soon.

Can't wait to see the new greenhouse!

Me too, it might be a pipe dream though and good sense may take over. I think it would be a lovely place to sit and enjoy when it is sunny yet cold outside. My regular greenhouse is much to jam packed with plants and gardening stuff to fit a sweet little table and chairs.

Getting ready to start some Winter sowing here in NW Ohio! Do you heat your greenhouse? I notice you overwinter some plants in there.
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Год назад
No, it is a glorified cold frame. Our temperatures can get down into the 20's at night in winter but are usually closer to 30. I am surprised at what will overwinter in here even though it is not heated. I do turn on a dish radiant heater that I turn on when I am in here on super cold days so I can be more comfy but other than that, there is no heat at all. It would get warmer if it was placed in a spot where it got more sun in the winter. Where it is placed now the house blocks the sun.

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse thank you for taking the time to answer. I was wondering as my husband is in the process of building me a greenhouse, 🙌🏻🙌🏻 or as you say a glorified cold frame because I do not plan on heating it. We are in northwest Ohio, and the temps can dip pretty low. (single digits and teens) I guess I will have to experiment with what can and cannot survive. It will get plenty of sunshine on sunny days. I am so looking forward to another growing season. Thank you for all your videos! You are truly inspiring and I’ve learned so much from you!

@@Butter653 You will love having it no matter what. One hint, if you put pavers or bricks as a floor then they will act as a heat sink, absorb warmth during the day and release it at night which will help with the heating of it. Mine is not in the sun during winter so it does not work that way for me but as you say yours will get a lot of sun then that will help. Painting pavers black also helps as the dark color absorbs more heat.

Isn't that a weed?
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Год назад
Nope, not here! Yarrow has been traditionally used as a medicinal plant for centuries. Many consider any plant that reseeds itself readily as a weed but that is just perspective.
