I have a Planar diesel heater under my driver seat. It started overheating and cutting out. After some searching I found a Tesco receipt had gotten caught where the air is sucked in. Lesson learnt to be tidier :)

On the diesel heater front you should check out David Mcluckie's channel.. he's just done a vid on a unit to cut the fuel pump off if the leisure battery voltage gets too low. Reduces the risk of overheating because the unit will recognise that there's no fuel and will shut down in a controlled manner.
The heater will burn off the access fuel Mel for a second and the pump won't pump anymore fuel so no worries "But" things will heat up a LITTLE because it hasn't been through the cool down cycle but I haven't had issues, there's a little plywood box built around mine and it's usually packed with cloths around that, my hot press lol. When my battery has been too low my heater just cuts out like disconnecting power, no fire and still works every time and this has happened half a dozen times; it's an Eberspaecher 2kw but same thing basically. My van is a draughty old boy and 2kw is more than enough even in winter 👍 Good choice going lower mate 👏
the heater wont go on fire. The combustion is contained in the chamber and exhaust gases and unburnt fuel are piped out the exhaust pipe. if the fan stalls the fuel gets cut off, the only damage that occurs is the control board overheats. It may actually survive one or two power fails. that is why there is a cool-down cycle in normal usage. Never ever just pull the plug, You will cook the circuit board! But no flames. Very safe design!

Electrics is easy enough need a blade fuse block and wire everything to the ooss and neg of the fuse block and then the fuse block to the battery, then sepereatly ground the negative of the battery bank to the chassis
Aha! So that's how I need to wire the negative to the grounding point! I have watched numerous videos on the electrics and no one every clearly shows how/where to wire up the ground from - just jumped over to your Shunt for Dummies video and now I'm ready to wire up Big Bertha (the Battery) properly in Sprintie the Campervan, including my Battery Monitor. Mel diesel heaters are brilliant! Have 2k in my RV got rid of the propane furnace it drained my batteries and I never felt safe because of its age. I have to investigate the diesel water heaters? Get rid of that propane unit. Best wishes always
Instant heater turn off video …. Yes please! Surely the fuel pump will also turn off …. I think it will be a massive anti-climax in that nothing will happen. But for entertainment value, it would be great to have an explosion to rival a Colin furze firework experience.

I did cut the power to the 5kw heater I reconnected within 3 minutes ish nothing got to hot and the control board servived and all still work's. Great channel Mel. I have just got the 2kw heater for my doblo as its a very small van.
Don’t worry about showing what happens on a diesel heater that unexpectedly loses power, it’s already happened to plenty of people 😂 No real fire risk, but the mother board circuit will probably over heat and will need replacing if that happens, tho some people have got away no damage.

Hi Mel, another great vid, I have the same problem with my diesel heater, its a 5kw, very warm!!! I bought mine for a 23 foot caravan, now its in a SWB transit ( after being put in a 16 foot van) its been great value but its a bit overkill in a small van, 10 mins and your melting!!! not complaining!!!! take care pal.
Evening Mel. I know you’ve just talked about diesel heaters…..but I fancy an all in one heater. Mainly because of your saying keep it simple keep it safe. If it’s all together I don’t have to worry about fuel lines etc. Are there any disadvantages to having an all in one? Hi Mel. New subscriber and poring over your vids as moving from a boat into a van over the next few months. Great content. A 'tip' that I haven't seen mentioned on any van builds that I was advised to do on my boat, way back, was with regard treating any ply/cladding/etc wood surfaces on the side next to any insulation/barrier cavity/ When lining my narrowboat I made a 50/50 mixture of PVC glue/water in a tin and painted the 'back' of any wall/ceiling panels/cladding/whatnot to help seal them from moisture. Have you heard of this, what do you think of this 'tip' and do you think it of any relevance on a van build? You're an inspiration bud. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge and regards.

Not cheap circa £1600 but when you're in the van throughout the year... the benefits.... of dry heat .. 2 in 1 (heat/cooking) .. fuel from vehicle tank.. ultra economical ...100% silent outside van... compact .. abilty to drive away from trouble within minutes... etc for me made it a no brainer, all these fit together for a stealthy lifestyle. What's the van insurance situation with wood burners? I've never been able to get a straight answer.

Hi Mel's I've just bought the same heater this might be a stupid question but does the base plate get really hot? I have vinyl flooring was planning on cutting a larger hole in the van floor and then fixing the base plate to the vinyl flooring. Any advice would be great. Hi Mel bought the 2kw heater off Amazon and just finished testing it. It looks like I got a version with a very limited control panel, it looks identical to the ones all over RU-vid but has very little in the way of settings. Just wondering did yours come with the limited control panel? Or if there's a way to open up more features in it

Hi Mel , I keep reading that the 2kw are not actually 2kw but 5kw . How would we know. I have a lwb transit with a 5kw which is too much and would like to swap it for 2kw but only if it’s definitely 2kw. Thanks also are the electric connectors interchangeable between the heaters or are they brand specific?

If you do the diesel heater test to see if it will catch fire when you shut off the electric supply. Will your heater still be in situ for your test. Maybe not a good idea. But would be much more realistic and i am sure would get more views. PS please do not reply to this comment.
