You know, you could sell this record as a live album, like many bands did before. And you're just giving it to us for free. You are an amazing person, Martin Molin.
Good idea, but then I found this! www.patreon.com/wintergatan And as I already have a Patreon account, I added them to my monthly patron payments. So easy, just a couple of mouse clicks! Why don't all of you do the same? A dollar or two is not much but will make a difference for them if enough of us fans chip in. :-)
%PATHETIC MODE ON% YES! Great idea to thank to someone whose life and work supports the idea of open source so wholeheartedly and makes one's life richer and more beautiful with his music. %PATHETIC MODE OFF%
Just watched it again. I am 74, have never watched another concert video all the way through more than once, but I've watched this one at least 10 times. Music box, typewriter, autoharp, a whistling bass player and a drummer who can play the theramin, only Wintergatan would dare to do this!
But yeah same here. I have watched this concert several times now. I just can't wait for the MMX to be done. That world tour will be something historic I feel.

OMG HUGE DISCOVERY FOR ME. It's been months (or years) since I listen to Wintergatan live performances. I discovered recently the song "Giorgio by Moroder", and loved it. And I realise, just about now, that the song they play here at the beginning is actually "Giorgio by Moroder". Thanks to you. Huge plot twist in my head. THANK YOU.
Edit: the more times I watch the gig, the more OMG's I can see in it. THEY ARE BEASTS!!! OMG no.1 5:49 the autoharp is falling - Martin did'n even skip a single note OMG no.2 40:07 the MIDI pad is falling - Marcus finished his part and managed to catch it OMG no.3 41:55 David finished his bass part and took the control of the keys OMG no.4 50:17 the glockenspiel, the keyboard and the mallet kat play in unison that full of ornaments part. Breathtaking. OMG no.5 1:00:03 Evelina takes the melody from Martin as he's playing the autoharp again OMG no.6 Marcus plays like an hour drums and typewriter, and then just goes to the THEREMIN and (without the fretboard!) plays the part perfectly!!! OMG no.7 1:04:06 Earhtquake! The guitar sound and the power chords rock. Who could expect that calm and introverted Martin can compose something like that?! And finally LOL 1:06:23 Martin - perfectionist corrects the tuning before the very last chord...

@Enyo Teios And, for an epic change of pace, not a "dark gritty dystopian" cyberpunk/sci-fi movie! (which particular "vision" has moved beyond trope and into "tiresome cliche" territory.
Yeah. But many off the songs for me makes me think of a magical fantasy forest. Like i’m one of the magic creatures. Or flying in the sky on a griffin surounded by dragons.
There's something about Wintergatan's music that really helps to calm me down. I can't quite put my finger on it, but their compositions and overall DIY vibe are like a gentle reminder that we're all human; a reminder that we're all experiencing this bizarre thing called "life" and doing the best we can to navigate it; a reminder to not take things so seriously and to take a moment to appreciate creativity.
I'm glad I'm not the only one.....got tears running down my face right now.......and the bass had me dancing around in my socks......have you ever seen someone dancing around while they are crying their eyes out?? 💕 (had to edit due to mispelling a word 'cuz I couldn't see the keyboard through the tears 😘)
RU-vid algorithm forces some marble machine in my feed for nearly a year I keep skipping by... Until last night I watched many videos wondering WTF is this? Now this came up in my feed today because I still had no idea who/what wintergatan was/is. Just watched whole show and then while watching bought their record on vinyl. Sheesh.
One thing that fascinates me about this performance is how the same sound is played sequentially on more than one instrument by different musicians. It's easy to miss, but it happens several times completely seamlessly. Example: 1:03:44 Marcus plays the theremin, who then transitions to drums. Evelina takes over with a theremin patch on the keyboard. Musical pass of the figurative baton, very cool!
BlueSparkle pointed out a good one at 59:56 in which Evelina takes the melody from Martin on the keyboard. They play the same note at the same time, then Martin lets go of the keyboard and takes the autoharp. I just saw another interesting and off the wall trick. 34:18 We can see Martin use the closing of the accordion to add to the sound regimen.
I've never seen anyone as dedicated to his music, as flexible in all the crafts he's mastering and at the same time as open to his fans as Martin. I dare say it's a miracle of nature and a pure joy. Thank you so much for this.
You guys are one of the very few bands out there that makes their tracks played live sound 99% percent the same as the studio recorded version. Big ups!
FiSH_TheFish That was a joke... He turned the typewriter into a machine that makes a clicking noise. The original comment was implying that it was originally made to be a "click machine" but could be modified to write letters (be a typewriter). But after seeing your avitar, name, and "xD" emoticon, I don't expect you to understand.

rabid raccoon Quite the comment when you don't really know if it's a joke yourself. I'd also like to ask what the "xD" emoticon has to do with not understanding? One more thing, it is spelled avatar not avitar.
This 59 year old rocker just had her mind blown! These guys are amazing. An accordion, a theramin, a typewriter,(?) and Martin's modu-whatever. Just an incredible sound. I came across the Marble Machine videos, then this popped up in suggestions. So glad it did!✌😸
This is beyond world class music ! It is celestial class ! Incredible compositions in a class of their own. The instrumentals dropped out of a ufo flying above the earth. The marble machine is beyond anything that aliens know and only Wintergatan has it and the technology behind it. Thank you guys and gal for blowing me away once again ! A friend always !
There aren't that many good instrmental bands around these days. I think your music has much of the spirit of what Mike Oldfield did in the 70's. I enjoyed this very much. Tusen tack!
this concert is the most beautiful and pure thing I've ever listened to. absolute genius. the intuition over how the instruments operate, the communication between band members. the shared experience between band members and audience members. even in performance, it is apparent that both the musicians and the audience enjoy what they are hearing/doing. the entire experience is both tactile and audibly mesmerising. "a good time was had by all" could not have better been explained. the emotional variety of this music is stunning, as is the cultural span and yet it sounds as if it's it's own brand all to its self. sure, there are no lyrics, but incorporating an expertly skilled whistler was marvellous and mind blowing. everything about this concert visibly or invisibly is breathtaking.
I never go to concerts but if Wintergatan come to southamerica I will definitely go to enjoy their music, otherwise now I have a real reason to visit Europe.
It was a good time! To add to it all it was a "picnic concert" so everyone in the audience had brought their own food and drink to the venue. So it was all very cozy and lovely even before the music started :)
Martin gave new light back to my life with his music alone. I am a 15 year old in the U.S., and I am very lucky to live in the conditions I am living in right now. No one in the world could wish for better parents, nor better living conditions. You would imagine how someone like me could get so depressed, and lose sight of what is really important. No matter your religion, race, etc. (yeah I'm not giving any lectures today) we are all human, and need a reason to want to live. As an instrumentalist, I have never heard such beautiful music and creativity. It inspires me to be the very best me, and make a positive difference in this world. Never be afraid to make mistakes, but don't be careless either :P.
@@SmugSuspenders thanks! I look back at this comment i made and cringe though because whatever i had in my heart isnt the same now. Still, its inspiring music :P
The Marble Machine introduced me to Wintergatan. I've been watching the Marble Machine X develop watching Wintergatan Wednesdays. ( Too Cool ) Today was the first time I've listened to Wintergatan play music. I appreciate that every musician plays most every instrument! What a cool sound! Thank you Wintergatan! ( Hello from Tulsa, Oklahoma USA )
Ye, same here. The engineering of that machine from hell got me at first, but you can’t avoid noticing how effortlessly music comes out of the guy. And this concert was awesome, his friends seem cut from the same stock. Someone compared to Mike Oldfield, and that strikes a chord with me. In my ears the Wintergatan music is like the love child of harmless and badass.
yeah it really distorts my perception i have of martin. I started watching him because of the marble machine, but you really can't grasp his full musical prowess or career unless you really look for it. He is a truly incredible musician and so creative and imaginative. It's hard to catch on to that just watching him essentially as an engineer work on the marble machine.
In so many ways am I grateful to you and your art. I have severe Complex PTSD and when I have a bad day, I turn this concert on. This soothes me. Every time. Thank you.
Linked to here from the Marble Machine video, then immediately bought the Wintergatan CD on Amazon! Rarely, VERY rarely, the internet serves you up something utterly entrancing right out of the blue... watched the concert twice now and I'm still smiling! :)
I'd never seen or listened to Wintergatan before! Today I randomly stumbled upon their video with the Marble Machine, and I was enthralled… I needed this uplifting, playful, melancholy tunes so much... it is magical in a way... it returned to me something I had lost and forgotten… I'm really grateful to the RU-vid algorithm that suggested it when i was searching for Baroque Chamber Music.
Gosh. Calling him just a genius is an understatement. Each of his videos deserves more than a million likes, not just 29k likes on this video which is sooo unfair. Not even the class of Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix or Calvin Harris can ever touch Wintergatan's level ever. I just wish I could meet this guy. Gosh he is from a different world. Love you sooo much with all my heart ❤❤❤
What a fool I've been! only been interested in the first Marble Machine and the Marble Machine X.... I HAD NO IDEA THE MUSIC MARTIN AND HIS BAND MAKES WAS SOOOOOOOO GOOD!... I really really really really cannot wait to see what the MMX adds to this amazing band.
the typewriter, the diy music box, the "moldulin"... it's all too charming. i normally try to get other things done when listening to music but i couldn't stop staring at the screen for the past 1 hour 7 minutes. also i like how you are all wearing plain black so that people can concentrate on the important matter: music.
The sound quality on this was SO good. I am a big fan... can't wait for you to come to the United States in the next couple of years. And if that doesn't happen, I might have to take a longer plane ride to get to see you guys. Keep up the great, creative, whimsical and emotional music and videos. I agree with the other comments... I stop what I am doing to watch, and it always makes my day better.
I am bipolar type 2 with a touch of PTSD, diagnosed by doctors, this is ambrosia for my soul and senses. Thank you Wintergatan for giving me a place where i can just rest and be without thoughts totally immersed in your warm embrace.
I can see this vid year by year and still makes me laugh, cry and dance with closed eyes and open soul. Cant get enough of people making LOVE with music. Thanks.
If I had to make a educated guess. Great games like final fantasy and suikoden. And a bunch of others. It sounds far fetched if u haven't played these games but I hear so many similarities and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Masterful nonetheless.
This music.. its.. something else.. This isnt just music Wintergatan, you produce feelings to millions out there. A song with this type of feeling is, wonderful! I someday wish to produce music like you, you are an inspiration to all of us Martin 😃
Amazing fact is how humble he is talking about and revealing many mistakes about the marble machine. Also, its fascinating how art and creativity makes you create something that is well beyond of reach (construction and architecture skills required to build that machine) just purely driven by idea, music and sound in your head. When we concentrate and focus on something lead by our creativity,we create wonders. An architect or skilled craftsman would never get an idea to create a marble machine just like musician would never get an idea for a beautiful and groundbreaking building or discover new construction material.
Yep, I love this idea that the Art and the Process are one in the same. The success and failure are all part of the same work, so therefore it is all included.
I am 5 years late in seeing this but thank you so much for sharing your mad genius. I love your music! I am so glad you decided to put this on RU-vid so that we can get to hear your amazing music here in the US.
The Marble Machine is a fabulous melody. I can almost hear some new wave band doing this with lyrics in the '80's. The melody gets under your skin. Wonderful.
The marble machine x is nearing its build end and I’ve been following every video, going back to group music, I just can’t wait for the first new music....
What a perfect ending to this show: a epic 13 minutes Paradis where everyone is just on point. The hard to play theremin spot on, you could see the grin on Marcus' face :-) Every single one of you really seemed to enjoy this. And what a pleasant sight to see Martin grab the guitar and play that really dirty, heavy rock riff at the end. The man, that is always so humble and quiet and here he really rocks and breaks the chains (may be there are no real chains to break - but it's totally different to the Martin we see in all the youtube videos)! This song evolves so much and has so many facettes to it, I would love to see you live someday and listen to this acoustic Paradis(e) :-)
So, first Detektivbyrån, and now Wintergatan with among others that INSANE Marble Machine.. What kind of Music Savant ARE you?! But thank you for being it.. THANK YOU for making MUSIC.
In some cultures beeing pregnant is nothing special, and not treated like a handicap. It is not necessary to comment that as beeing a huge achievement... i would rather congratulate her on her abilities on the instrument. What i mean to say is that beeing pregnant at home on a chair or on stage in front of a piano does not make a huge difference most of the time.
zoolkhan people tend to try to stay safe and take a pregnancy break from work in my country. Only some very dedicated women keep working in their last pregnancy months
Never in my LIFE did I think my ears could leak gold... Wintergatan... if you need someone to stand to the side and ooze liquid gold out of their ears, I'm your guy, just message me and I'll be there.. money is NOT an issue, I'll just leak a puddle of gold into my hand and they'll let me through
The energy you can see them put into their playing is incredible and very fun to watch - oh and not to mention their music is among the finest in the world!
I'm obsessed! The autoharp, glockenspiel, accordion, typewriter, music box, whistling...I love the idea of making music incorporating the beauty of distinct sounds. And that electronic synth zither(?)! I'd love to see if you might add some more unique percussion instruments in the future. Thank you for your vision and spectacular sound!

Not being a musician I have a question. Are all musicians multi talented with all kinds of instruments, or is it only Wintergatan that are extremely talented? It's amazing to see every band member switch instruments. I never think I've seen that before in any band.
Thanks! Well, you have (for example) Mike Oldfield, Enya and Prince that was / are multi talented. But I never seen it in a concert as Wintergatan. Have to check Blue Man Group again... :)
The difference is that many bands and artists learn an instrument and then start putting words to it to create "music." Wintergatan makes music and then finds fun ways to make it a reality. Give me some random instrument and ask me to make music, I will try to relate it to the instruments I know how to play and it won't be very good. These guys already know what they want to hear, so they can manipulate different objects to get the sounds they are looking for. Every noise has purpose. (Similar if you ever have heard interviews with Michael Jackson. The guy planned every single friggin note and tone down to the millisecond. You don't see much of that anymore these days.)
OH MY GOSH I CAN'T STAND TOO MUCH PLEASURE FOR MY EARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am definetly in love with that, just laughing out loud, crying and pushing my headphones against my ears... and you even covered one of my favorite songs, giorgio by moroder... i wish i could have money enough to travel and go wherever you play a live... grateful love from spain xx
I cry every time I hear it.....I guess if I listen to it too many times I will end up dehydrated lol. It sends me into a state of pure euphoria....no one can be around when I play it because they would think I was ready for the looney bin 😊 Love from Florida! 💗💗💗💗
I was amaze of the marble Machine! But after seeing you in concert... I see the real talent it takes to make a marble machine. I love the typewriter as an instrument...
