After a viewer suggested Wire Tek mole eliminators, I ordered 2 from Amazon, got them the next day and within 2 hours they produced 2 dead moles. I wish I had the Wire Tek eliminators years ago.
I use both traps. Gopher hawk around foundations, wiretech for shallow runs in the middle of the lawn. I caught 3 adults and 3 juvenile moles going through the same tunnel with the wiretech. The activity in my flower bed has decreased a lot this year thankfully. I did snag a mole in my garden in the middle of the lawn with a gopherhawk though. I say use both for good measure.
I started using the Gopher Hawk a few years ago and I got about 8 or 9 moles a summer. This solved my mole problem. Now this year, the Gopher Hawk has been worthless. Moles are ruining our small garden and small yard! I've had false hits, traps tipped over, etc. The metal Gopher Hawk catchers test perfect so I have no idea what happened. Back before the Gopher Hawk I tried one of those plastic foot setting type traps and hated them. Anyway, I've got to solve this thing. Thanks for your video, I'll consider your comments.
Read the directions and you'll get moles. First learn where mole tracks start and create a divot with your heel where he's bumped it up, then shove the scissor down in and rock the device back and forth so its kind of loose, then push straight down with your foot until it locks. I told my neighbor about this trap and he went out and started charging people to get rid of their mole problems. This is a sure fire remedy for mole issues.
Those visible raised tunnels they leave in your lawn are feeding tunnels where they're looking for worms/bugs, they abandon these after a day or two. You'll wanna find their travel routes which are usually along the edges of flower beds or the garden and 2-3 inches down and 1-1.5" in diameter. You'll wanna collapse that tunnel and add a little dirt to the divot so you can firmly compact that spot where the trap trigger will be when you set it. That way the mole has to dig and wedge himself as he goes which will set the trap off.
I am new at this. Also thank you for your advice that I noticed in the comment I got a real problem on my hands . I’m going to have to go purchase about 20 of those traps.😂
That’s a myth. Go read literature on moles from OSU etc etc. many many pros will tell you that is completely false. They reuse these feeding tunnels. Which is why I catch them all the time in them. Main tunnel is obviously better but feeding tunnels are reused.
As a professional trapper for 17 years I would be retired if I got a nickel every time iv heard homeowners say that. That and they think grub killed helps in anyway shape or form. It’s always one of those two 😂
@@DanKoning777 All I know is after trapping them for nearly 20 years I have never seen them re-use a raised feeding tunnel. A lawn grub isn't gonna hang out in a tunnel waiting to be eaten, they're going to be in the soil gnawing on the roots of your grass which is why moles are constantly creating new feeding tunnels. I wasted a lot of time early on trying to set traps on those. Maybe that's why you still have mole problems after 2 years. Moles are 10x harder to trap than a gopher and if you're focused on the wrong type of tunnel you will not be successful. Cinch traps also work well but you have to use them in pairs to cover travel in each direction, I've caught more moles with cinch traps inadvertently while trapping in gopher tunnels than any other method. In fact the best way to catch one is to find their huge mounds where they mound-up the spoils from their travel runs - mole mounds are completely symmetrical and 8" or so in height and diameter unlike the crescent-shaped gopher mounds. If you push all the dirt aside you'll find a tunnel coming up from below in the exact center of that mound. Put a cinch trap as far into the tunnel as possible and set it with a hair trigger.
Yeah, we borrowed a gopher hawk and so far nothing. Tried peanuts, and granules that are supposed to drive them away. NO LUCK. My father and I both ordered similar products off Amazon. If they work out we will probably get one from Wire Tek. Some really good reviews. I do not even care about cost at this point. Yard is TORE UP! Good video.
These are the best traps I have found. Unbelievable the amount of tunnels just one mole can make in a short time I thought I had a dozen and after catching two all activity stopped.
These are in the top 5 but trust me look into “trapline” mole traps here on RU-vid. They are literally the very best and is what the professionals use. I have my own trapping company for 17 years and worked for the OSU department of agriculture trapping. The trapline traps are the very best and are inserted into the tunnel. You can set a hair trigger on them. Only $9 a piece and they do not rust since they are stainless steel. The out of sight trap used to be #2 but they redesigned them with a weak spring and aluminum body so those are junk now. All I buy for my trapping business is trap lines for moles and the gophinator for gophers which is made by the same company.
You should start making you a mole hunting coat from their pelts lol So the Mole Eliminator for the shallow runs and the gofer hawk down large deep mounds.
Do you still prefer the Gopher Hawk for volcano-like mounds but prefer the WireTek for elongated runs (as per another video)? I seem to have mainly mounds lately.
When you see a fresh large mound probe in a circle about a foot away. Moles do not often return to the hole in their mound like a gopher will. The tunnel to the mound is usually a offshoot tunnel from their main run. Where I live in the Northwest USA, moles rarely make mounded tunnels on the surface. I have seen them as deep as 12", which is weird since they usually eat worms, bugs, and grubs which are usually close to the surface.
I wish I would have saw this first before getting the gopher hawk. I've had a gopher problem and out of the 4 I've caught so far 1 was the gopher hawk and 3 others were just me spearing them while they were digging out of their tunnel. Out of this one catch the wire is all bent up and I have to buy another wire if I want to keep using it. Kind of overpriced for how easily it damages itself.
Naaa, I think I will hold on to them, you never know if I have more moles with mounds and deeper tunnels I may have to use them again. Although the wire tek has been so effective that I have had no activity for a couple of weeks now, I'm actually a little disappointed because the hunt seems to be over but they will return at some point I'm sure
@@jase4364 Sorry but it works great for me the best mole killing device I've ever seen, there really not that difficult although they can be a little tricky to set but good luck
@@70elco28 I think I have a dud. The spring pressure is just too high for a mole to push against and trigger it. I'm going to have to pick up another and see if it has a lighter spring.
I still like the gopher hawk but my experience tells me The Wire tek is much more effective especially in shallow trails they are a little difficult to set but once you get the hang of it I think The Wire tek is much better, good luck with your hunt I appreciate you checking out my videos
Pure junk. I have had one for four years. Yard is full of moles. This device has not triggered one time and has not caught the first mole. Save your money.
Sorry you haven't had better luck you must not be placing the trap in active trails if you watch my videos when you see activity it's important to walk down the trails to ensure you are setting the trap in a active trail
