I really enjoy this channel. Doing crafts like this was recommended to work through some PTSD. The way you explain things, the tone of your voice etc... is just calming. Also helpful in learning to adapt to only having partial use of my left hand. I'm incorporating a lot of this stuff into other projects, it really helps expand my creativity. Best channel of this type on RU-vid! Thank you!
Thanks for the confirmation Doug. Am currently challenged with the old childhood PTSD as I had a cancer scare that turned out great but can't dial it back YET and was hoping this craft/art will be soothing. Crocheting sure wasn't. Am tickled pink by how sweet and the great teacher Yvonne is.
I too use this as myself prescribed therapy for PTSD. I lost my 19 year old son, David, 15 years ago, and after screaming at God for two years, I found this. It calms me; it helps me focus on something besides the flashes in my brain.
@@lonislovelythings3736 I am so sorry for your Loss .We lost our 8 year old Granddaughter in 2018 and it still Grabs us and shakes us up. I feel so sorry for my daughter also .I know how bad it hurts me ,But as a parent I know it hurts you and my daughter so much more.
This was great a pretty earring design, and thank you for showing all of the details and information and for not speeding the video up, I appreciate how you think of us beginners, people don't always want you to speed up the video, thanks Laura in uk
I was just thinking about how I missed your tutorials, and then this popped up in my feed, I couldn't be happier! Hopefully, I can try it out real soon since I have some Christmas presents to make :D
Yvonne, I wet my steel wool and use a dab of Dawn dish detergent. It keeps the steel wool dust from flying around. I polish over a plastic tray that is easily rinsed off. Then I polish with my rotary tool with a 3/4" Carbon Steel Brush. Then I may tumble the piece for a beautiful shine depending on the stones I use. Great video. Thanks!
Ultra Polish Pads, available on Amazon, do a great job of polishing after steel wool. Great for polishing in between shows or wear also. One pad goes a long way.
Try a dust buster to clean up. Mine is a Dirt Devil 12 v lithium ion quick flip. I've been using it everyday for over 3 years and the battery still lasts forever and is amazingly strong.
HELLO! I missed you! I have not seen your face in months. You got a fringe, or what you guys call bangs I think. You look so cute :) I have so much to catch up on. I'm excited to have a binge session. I love the earrings and I want "Hit it till your happy" on a T-shirt. ;)
Hi Yvonne. I am a beginner and want to know why the cut ends of my wires don't 'smush' like yours do, I still get tiny sharp ends showing . What am I doing wrong please. Is it a certain technique that you are using? Thanks.
Hey, Dora! What wire are you using? I use Parawire brand wire, which is quite soft, and I think that makes a big difference on how malleable it is and how it responds to being smushed. Also, just a ton of practice and experimentation!
Yvonnee- I love these earrings - I wish you would make more of these simple earrings more often. They never go out of style. Such an easy design and would like to see much more. Thanks for all your sharings!! Love that curving jaw also!!
Me too I'm just getting back into making after taking a several year break.... Working back up to advanced stuff is fun... Thx so much I love ur videos
I love these, Von!! Thanks for showing us how to make that initial shape - I bet I could turn it into a heart, don't ya think? Btw, chalcedony is pronounced kal-SAID-knee (stress the 2nd syllable). A super cool group of quartz that includes the agates, jaspers, onyx, and all the other microcrystaline quartz 😁 Oh, and I like to use a wire brush to polish my metals. I like it more than steel wool 'cause it doesn't "shed" steel all over the work surface. Found at any hardware store in several grades, it's super inexpensive as well as easy to use 😎 Great tut!!
Jody, do you have any issues with the wire brush scratching your stones? I bet the harder ones wouldn't be a problem, but I was wanting to try this with a silver wire and turquoise, a gift for my Mom. Should I just be very careful not to touch the stone while I'm working? Thanks!
@@Doxymeister Yes, I'm VERY careful, especially with stones that are low on the hardness scale or are easily scratched. I have yet to damage a stone, I'm thankful to say!!
Hey 🙂 Just wanted to say hi and thank you for your awesome videos....as I'm newbie....love how you explain each step & love these earrings.......cheers Mel from Australia
I love your designs! Thanks for sharing. Do you add a protective coating to your pieces when your done to prevent tarnish? I haven't seen any tutorials that address this.
Love. Love. Love these! I have some Carnelian Briolettes to wrap maybe I could try this style with those🤗💜PS- PLEASE share your music choice I can’t find it anywhere and I love the Guitar and strings playing in your videos! It’s So soothing! I feel so connected with the universe when I watch your videos- I can just imagine the scents you probably have in the background too like subtle hints of some sandalwoods, patchouli or dragons blood-You’re such a beautiful spirit and absolutely fabulous instructor! Thank You- Wishing You Both Many Blessings And Long Good Health💜
LOVE these earrings!! I need to buy the proper equipment for hammering & oxidizing, but I am working with raw copper wire - 14 gauge (It's a bitch!). I use the 0000 steel wool for removing impurities and tarnish from unfinished work, and the crud is a real issue. I'd suggest using moist wipes for cleaning off your work surfaces. Endust on a soft cloth would also be good, since it cuts any static and will help keep the crud on the cloth. PLEASE don't use your hands for wiping steel wool bits off the table!!!! EEEkkk that made me cringe!! If you get pieces of metal imbedded in your skin.... just NOOO. Thanks so much for this cool tutorial, you rock!
Hey Yvonne! I’ve watched your tutorials for so long now! And on this project, I don’t know if you know about pumice powder? It takes off unwanted patina on copper. It’s fairly cheap and lasts forever! But then you don’t have to deal with icky steel wool! You can find it online. :)
Ugh. Decided the gods don't want matching earrings (read: FAIL), so I'm gonna use some 14 gauge and make a larger pendant. Might make some adjustments for the gauge. Wish me luck!
I agree with Doug Russell. I enjoyed your way of explaining things. It's obvious you're a patient person. The only suggestion I would make is increase your volume. I had to turn my volume to the top. This is the first video of yours I've watched. I plan to watch many more. Thank you!
Cal SED on née is the correct pronunciation. Please cover your work when snipping/cutting wire. Next time it could hit your face/eye instead of flying across the room. (Happened to me) I love your tutes! I can’t wait to make these.
Hi 👋 Have you ever put hammered copper rings or loops in the lower part of the oval heart? I am going to try this. I love copper so much! Thank you for generously sharing your passion, process and beautiful work! God Bless 😃
THANK YOU I made these and i love how they turned out... not as good as yours though as i see a bit of a mistake on mine thank you for this tutorial and i think i will make a matching pendant THANK YOU
I just made these today using peridot as the center bead, copper seed bead as a spacers and three smaller peridot beads on each side. They came out beautifully! Really like the weight and feel of the 16g wire.. had to use 26 g wire to hang the beads as the peridot crystal holes are so small. Did the variation loop as opposed to the spiral. Looking forward to showing them off! Thank you for your clear instructions and awesome design!!!
I use your same method of polishing with steel wool however I just do it over the sink with running water. Works great Thanks for the tutorial. Beautiful earrings
I love watching you work. Your voice is so soothing. I would like to make these earrings. Can you tell me what type of stone you used and where you bought them. Yvonne thank you for sharing your beautiful design.
I think it’s pronounced chal seh dough knee also 😂 something science happens 😂 i need that on a t shirt ....also... 2nd also, do you or have you considered making a video on how your video setup is for making tutorials if that makes any sense? As for tips for steel wool and the messiness... maybe put a large sheet of paper down first then you can just lift and dump flakes into trash no problem.
I'm a newbie at starting my own metal smithing and beading, Thank you so much for your kind sharing and knowledge ❤️. You are so thorough and you take your time. I love that. Happy holidays to you and yours!
Did I miss it or did you say how long you cut your 2 pieces of 16 gauge ? LOVE the earrings but as you are so good at what you do I am shocked that when you cut your wire you do not control it from flying everywhere as you must know the very serious damage to your eyes , face, etc. that it could cause not to mention children , pets and anyone else in the room with you and I know you get a lot of beginners who follow your lead. Your hair looks adorable by the way.
I love these! What do I place on top of the copper once I patina, and polish, (how do keep that look?) Also the patina I have seems to rub off on my hands..??
I love these earrings, both versions, but I think the larger spirals are my favorite. I love your tutorials and how you think outside the box. I am new to working with wire and I am learning a lot from you, thank you for your time and expertise that you put into each one of these tutorials.
So.....forget the earrings.......I WANT THE HAIR!!!!!!!! Been with you since around the time you started.. Love watching you both and so incredibly inspiring tho me!!! Thank you and God bless.
Thank you so much for sharing. You are very talented as well as being very generous to us beginners! Keep the tutorials coming. Sandra, Ontario, Canada
I Just ran into your video, which I liked very much, thank you. I would like to know where do you buy your wire, I looked for it, but I cannot find it.
It seemed like after you shined the earrings up, they were like they were to begin with, before dipping them into the sulfur chemical. I had nothing to compare them to, as they were both dipped, but it seemed that way - what do you say?
I'd like to learn how you made the crescent moons I got in my kit. They are so pretty and I'd like to try and make some myself, thank you for this video of how to wrap pendents I'm going to try that now.
Thank you so much for these tutorials. Im a beginner and I appreciate how you go into depth for us beginners. I love how your voice is so soothing also. Thank you ❤️
It's pronounced, "COW-SYDNEY", Not sure why it is spelled like this "Chalcedony" the H is silent. I have trouble pronouncing a lot of them. I hope this helps. Oh yes, thanks for sharing with us how to make these beautiful earrings.
Love these earrings, thank you so much! As Linda Spangler said, I wet my 0000 steel wool and use a drop of Dawn dish detergent. I also pull off a small piece because it’s easier to work with that way.
