I am on my 5th wire hair. Never had a back issue with any of them and they go up and down stairs, jump on the couch, etc. Pretty easy dogs to own; typical grooming, regular dog food and of course they don't shed. Plus they are small dogs, so easy to ride in the car, etc. Since they are small and low to the ground, you have to sometimes watch where you step and they pick up ticks, etc in the yard very easily.

Wow, that's cool that you've had 5 wire hairs! They are so stinking cute and sound like fun little dogs. I wonder if they are healthier than the smooth dachshunds since they are less popular? It's great that yours haven't had back issues. We just assume that was an issue for all doxies. Thanks for tuning in and sharing with us!

Can you tell me the name of the breeder you get your dogs from? My dapple recently passed at 17, love of my life and I miss him. I promised him I get another doxie and give him a fantastic life, like his was.

The best advice we have with respect to any breed is to find a reputable breeder who does all the health testing necessary. You may have to wait until a puppy is ready, but it's totally worth it as you'll likely be getting a healthier dog and will have a breeder friend for life to help you with any questions that arise.

Our wirehair Wilbur seems to enjoy chasing more than our previous smoothcoat Roxie, who enjoyed burrowing more than he does. Wilbur also barks more as not just alerting us of danger, but also as a defensive bark to tell people to stay away.

It's so interesting how the different coated dachshunds seem to have different personalities! We have a dachshund mix and we have no clue if he's smooth or wire-related, but he definitely enjoys a good chase, is super playful, and an alert barker! Thanks for tuning in and for your feedback!

We have two, a girl and a boy. So far they are other most favorite breed ever. They do have such a unique personality comparing to other coat. My ones are less noisy, they require 2 walkies and that's all. They are picky with food most of the time. My girl is the best with little kids she loves all kind of human. My girl has very thick coat so she doesnt shred as much, but my boy has smoother hair and his hair does get fussy very easily. They are quite easy to maintain (hygeine wise). We usually like to take them to get their nails cut at the groomer cuz they nails are very black and can be hard to trim at home.
