Love the Typhur. Had an issue with one probe which revealed itself on first cook - an email to the company (well two actually as some clarification was needed) and a new probe was on the way to me. Great customer service. Highly recommended.

Been using an original Meater for several years now. Decided to check the state of the technology when I found your post, so thanks for the update.

so many options now... a lot of knock offs though too. if typhur can shrink their probes... then that unit is a slam dunk. love the display and ease of use.

I am returning my first Typhur unit as I believe probes are defective. Hopefully the next unit will be better.

I have the Meater 2 plus and the Typhur. The connectivity issues with the Meater is not a problem for me because I’m usually close by when I’m cooking. I actually like the Meater best. I like the size of it and I like the app. Love the Typhur too, but if I had to choose, I would take the Meater.

right on. I have not purchased any add on components for the Meater either... so that could help. I look forward to seeing what these different companies make in the future to improve products... lots of possibilities.

Excellent video, and I think your conclusions are spot-on. I have the Meater Block, the TempSpike Plus, and the Typhur Sync . . . and you nailed it. The dropped connections from the Meater and the TempSpike drive me crazy, but the Typhur has been absolutely bulletproof in the connection department. Your observation that the base station for the Meater and Thermopro need to stay close to the grill is very relevant for those of us whose grills are not under cover, as you don't want to get the base stations wet from rain. I highly recommend the Typhur Sync.

@@Searedandsmoked, those are the only three of this style that I've owned. My conclusion after just a few cooks with the bluetooth-only TempSpike is that I don't ever want to own a probe that doesn't have wifi, it's just not worth the hassle of dealing with a phone going nuts with disconnection alerts whenever I go upstairs, or across the street to chat with the neighbor. And the constant connection issues between the Meater probe and the Block are a real turn-off, as amazing as that product was when it was released. With the Typhur, I can leave the base in my kitchen and it connects just fine to any of my grills, anywhere in the yard . . . and I can go wherever I want with my phone, and stay connected via wifi. Can't beat that. And the fact that the Typhur has two probes and some other cool features is a good bonus!

I owned the meater x and returned it because of lack of connection. I just bought the meater 2 +, and personnally the connectivity problem is solved.

I agree the Typhur is excellent. As to the rain issue, just put the base in a ziplock bag. Air tight and the display remains visible.

@@bernardgagnon1626 I bought, and returned, the meater 2+ b/c of connectivity problems. I might have had a bad unit but the customer service was slow, to say the least. Interestingly, I have a Traeger Timberline that included the Timberline-only Meaters, and they also have connection problems, although those are mitigated by wifi. I just bought a Typhur and I agree - the connection is rock-solid.

Thanks for the great video. I am about to replace my ThermoPro wired and do consider Meater 2 Plus. It is supposed to handle ambient temperature up to 500 C. So you could do the smoking and the subsequent searing with the probe still in the meat. If you the have a spare smart phone this could be used for wifi connection and through the cloud connect to another smart phone and then have a full coverage wherever you are. Please let me know if I am mistaken in any way 😁
@Searedandsmoked
@Searedandsmoked 5 месяцев назад
that could be possible, but I have not tried it. I assume the simple solution would be to buy one of their add on 'bridge" type components to extend coverage, but I have not purchased one of those yet.

I bought a Typhur meat probe set. This was my first experience with wireless probes. I just did not like the entanglements of the wires and I wanted wifi connectivity. I got a unit that felt very premium with the base station. I charged it up and was never alerted as to when the charge was done. My charge light just kept blinking overnight. My screen appearance looked nothing like the screens for the Typhur I had seen on the RU-vid channels. I emailed a video as to what the unit was doing to Typhur and they said the software had a bug and they did not know when or if they could push a firmware update to me. I returned it to Amazon and got another Typhur. The second unit had a different set of bugs and just gave up on it and sent it back to Amazon. I think The Typhur unit is a quality piece overall, its just that the software is not fully baked. I wanted the wifi capability so I went back with the wires and got the Inkbird IBBQ-4T which has wifi capability. I really wanted the wireless unit but thought about it and the heat on the probe batteries can not be good for longevity. I honestly wonder what the lifespan is on all these wireless probes. I may go back to a wireless unit and I think Typhur will be a great unit to have once the software bugs are ironed out.

I have the Typhur and it is excellent, up to a point. Like ALL the combo wireless units, the fundamental design is deeply flawed. The inner and outer probes must be separated (either physically or by a long wire) because no ambient sensor can read the true temperature of the cooker when it is 0 to 2 inches from the food being cooked.
@Searedandsmoked
@Searedandsmoked 3 месяца назад
That's a fair point. Have you placed a probe next to the meat at grate level, as you normally would to compare the two temps?
@foodonfire3662
@foodonfire3662 3 месяца назад
@@Searedandsmoked Always! I've been a FireBoard user for almost 6 years and run multiple probes all the time. Multiples because the ambient temp can vary quite a bit inside any cooker. FWIW, I also use the FireBoard to control the fans on a Bronco and a Big Joe. Each has it's own blower and I swap the power cords to whichever I'm using. Because the FireBoard supports 6 probes I can still measure all temps in both when I run one on autopilot and the other manually.

Can multiple Meater 2+ probe channels be read by the app? I notice they are only sold as singles, but not sure if that means there's a single channel limit or not. 🤔

That I do not know... have not experimented with multiple units... but I could see how that may be an issue

Ambient temps with wireless probes have and will always be the issue. That is the one thing that wired probes have the advantage
@Searedandsmoked
@Searedandsmoked 3 месяца назад
if you have the two probe setup, you could just place one of the probes on the grate for the ambient., so its not influenced by the meat proximity
