IIRC you can adjust the retraction settings so the extruder pulls back a bit when jumping around on a print do you don't get those strings. might be temperature settings of the extruder too. Just things to try 😊

IMO you should play a little with retraction parameter in your slicer program so you can get better results of printing w/o filament spaghetti everywhere. For my own fast (80mm) short (3mm) retraction in slic3r works best. Thanks for idea of power supply raspberry!
@meesternadim
@meesternadim 7 лет назад
I followed your tutorial and used the same mini buck converter, but after turning on the 3d printer psu and connecting the raspberry pi to the arduino, the voltage regulator on the arduino gets very hot. if I disconnect the raspberry pi, it cools down. I think somehow the rasperry pi is drawing current from the arduino? The pi is still powered on if I disconnected from the arduino. Strange.
@Unordung
@Unordung 7 лет назад
What am I missing here @greatScott? At 4:30 you discuss the LED circuit, 2 x 22ohm resistors in parallel with a 10mm white LED in series with them. You then go on to say it's powered by 5v. This produces an equivalent resistance per LED of 11ohms. White LED's have a Vf of 3.3 and a forward current of about 30mA. 5-3.3/11=.154A or 154mA.... That is 5 times the Forward current....... However 3.3*.154=0.5W... Are these non standard LED's which can handle a higher current provided they stay below the half Watt? I have not come across these yet and if I have I must be under driving them significantly.
@spoderman15
@spoderman15 7 лет назад
yeah they make 0.5w ultra bright leds like that
@Unordung
@Unordung 7 лет назад
So he did, however I have since realized I have indeed been under driving LEDs for some time. As it seems most LEDs are now rated in their watt handling ability. Ignorant of this I have still been designing circuits to keep the current through the LED to less than 30mA. This was very handy to learn!

Hey Scott i like to ask you what you think about this delta printers, i dont have one (even cartesian) but all the people say that they are hard to calibrate and also they loose printing resolution next to edges. Do you recommend a delta printer agains traditional cartesian printer for a novel user?. I dont mind to loose more time adjusting the printer if i got fastest print time. PD: stay creative and i will see you next time ;)

Nice setup ! Beware however of leaving the printer working when you're not around, it could catch fire... Regarding the plastic strings, you should 1. make sure you're printing at the right temperature and not like 20 degrees above 2. play with retraction settings, increase the retraction length, also I found that retracting and lifting the head by 0.3mm makes a huge improvement.

Hi, mister, can I use this contraption with my Prusa i3 printer? My school lent it to me few months ago, and don't trust it much, but some prints takes dozen of hours and I have it under my bed, so because of fumes and vibration it is impossible to print it while asleep. So I need to somehow make sure it is printing correctly while I am away at school, or if it is not, so I can shut it off. I was thinking about some weird camera/tripod/livecam/TeamViewer build, but I am stuck at the point I don't have anywhere near good enough phone (just impossible with my Nokia 5800 XM). So, if I build this, can I access it from outside? Or do I need static IP? Thanks in advance, and also, I love your stuff, you are making videos that I really need because I love electronics and in my school they are teaching nothing about it. :)
