Most are unaware, when you connect two batteries in parallel, the batteries, and especially the current voltage when you connect them needs to be the same.. if one battery is depleted, and you connect it up to another equally rated battery that is fully charged, you run the risk of an explosion and a very hot fire that is really difficult to extinguish.. Make sure you use identical batteries (ie: 48v 14ah with 48v 14ah) that are currently have the same charge on them. plugging in a 42v with a 48v is very dangerous..

Awesome quick explanation for me to connect up my batteries. Thanks!

can you parallel them together but install a switch and use one battery at a time?
@tsharpton1
@tsharpton1 3 года назад
Would it just not be the same as having them in parallel without the switch...would it not give you the same range without having to switch from one to the other?
@rahi7339
@rahi7339 3 года назад
@@tsharpton1 parallel can give you slightly more range, the reason for switch is parallel is headache and unsafe. To make is work u gotta have both battery same voltage and if they r not same then you can damage your battery and even cause fire. I got 3 battery and i run them one at a time using heavy duty switch

Awesome video, It gives me an idea for my Ebike. What do you guys think? Currently I have a 52 volt 13ah battery running a (rated at) 1500 watt motor. My controller is rated at 30 amps 52v. It hits 28mph on flat and has a range of about 25~miles. Im thinking to add another identical 52v 13ah battery. If I wire up both batteries in series or parallel what would I get? Should I switch to an upgraded 72V 3000W 100A controller?

Great question, I'm looking to amp up my Scorpion Ebike with an additional battery. Would it affect the controller or motor in any way?

@@Fernando-py5ne I think the two batteries should be the same voltage and capacity.

@@TheCohesiveGarage in series the capacity should be the same you double the voltage but the capacity stays the same you can run a 36volt 10 amp battery with and a 24 volt 10 amp battery making a 60 volt 10 amp battery.

Can you have 2 different size batteries with a parallel connector?
@numberofthewarlock
@numberofthewarlock 3 года назад
Not recommended, you need equal capacity to discharge evenly. If you over discharged 1 it would ruin the battery. That parallel wire is not a great idea as you are never guaranteed to have the same exact voltage unless you charge them together too on the same node... This isn't a good setup.

@@rahi7339 yes, you could have a kill switch for 1 battery. I do this on my ebike. I detach 1 battery using the switch and attach the 2nd battery.
@rahi7339
@rahi7339 3 года назад
@@numberofthewarlock I'm kinda confused about installing switch, what type of switch did you use? Is it a spdt or dpdt switch? And what's the Amp and voltage of your switch? I just brought two 20ah battery. Only the switch installation is what making me nervous, thatnk you

eBay or even Amazon depending on connection and amperage you want it might be better to make your own so you know exactly the amperage it will be rated for as well as the levels of heat it can handle as well as to. It over heat any connections due to not knowing the systems Limits
