Love this song and loved your reaction I’ve always interpreted as him never having a feeling of peace and referring to it as home in the song so he’d numb it with drugs and being wild and I think that he felt like he couldn’t be saved all these people have failed before then he met her and her love was the one thing that brought him peace and the only thing that could convince him that he could be saved and I think that the story telling in this song just might be one of the best stories ever told through a song. Not a huge fan of Jason isbells style but he can write music like no other and I loved this song before Morgan because of the story but Morgan’s cover to me saved this song and brought it to an audience that would’ve probably never have heard it and he did it beautifully made a great song better
