1. Make asha the princess daughter of magifico 2. Make the star more human like in the concept art and build a romance between asha and star 3. Hire Broadway writers not pop music writers 4. Magnifico says "he got these genes from outer space" so have it turn out he's keeping a star he wished on and bleeding it for his magic

I think there's a few animatics on youtube where Magnifico is secretly keeping human Star in his castle to grant wishes while making everyone else think he himself is the one granting wishes, Asha finds out and tries to break Star out of the castle. Honestly the best thing that came out of this movie is that it got everyone's creative juices flowing, Alicia and the Kingdom of Starlight is my favorite creation that came out of youtube.

Just my two cents: 1. I always liked the idea of Star being Magnifico and Amaya's son, getting the Rapunzel/Elsa treatment. 2. Love it. Love everything about it. 3. I HATE when people say this. Julia failed (she did say Disney wasn't really helpful with her, and "This Wish" was written before the script, which explains a lot), but that doesn't mean pop artists/songwriters are bad; look at how Elton John did with Tim Rice on "The Lion King" or Lin-Manuel Miranda did with "Encanto." Plus "Hamilton," a hip-hop quasihistorical musical, and "Six," a pop qausihistorical musical/concert exist. 4. VERY confused about this. It feels kind of important, but almost all his lines in his song are thrown away; no mention of his trauma or past are explored. If they were gonna go full villain, I thought he'd be like Peter Pan's shadow, a syar shadow, who couldn't grant good wishes, only corrupted ones--but then I realize they'd be ripping off "Monster High: 13 Wishes."

@@OpticalSorcererto be clear, nobody I have seen talk about pop music vs musical theater is trashing pop music. The problem is that Pop music is meant to be catchy first and foremost, while show tunes are more about telling a story through song. It's a completely different process and mindset and not everyone can do both.

literally from the day the first trailer dropped, I've been saying "Why is disney making a movie critiquing capitalism" but i think the movie's metaphor flew over most peoples heads simply due to how poorly executed it was. King Magnifico is literally just a stand in for the concept og 'The American Dream'. If you stay in the system for long enough, you may end up getting rich... or in this case, getting your wish fulfilled.

How can a wish be vague anyway? Wouldn’t the wish expose what the person wouldn’t tell the king upfront? If the old man truly wished to cause a rebellion, wouldn’t the wish itself be him leading said rebellion?
@fractalgem
@fractalgem 9 дней назад
There was potential there, show magnifico become increasingly paranoid about vague wishes, commenting that he was sooo lucky that dressmakers wish turned out alright.or something... Instead, well, magnifico is the only one who knows how his brand of wish magic works, since asha messes up becoming his apprentice and previous ones kept pestering him for favors until he kicked them out.

Honestly I think the King not granting every wish and Asha giving him shit for it could work but in a way that would make sense like maybe have it were the king doesn't tell Asha why because she's still young and doesn't want her mind to be corrupted and then have a scene were Asha sees one of the wishes that isn't granted and sees how messed up and disturbing it is then she sees why the king doesn't grant every wish because not every wish is good then the two can come to agreement on how to fix the mess and trouble that Asha caused. Something way more interesting than what the actual movie gave us.

They should have made the boy/star the long lost son of Magnifico. Magnifico could have wished for an "heir with magic that surpasses his own". After his wife fails to have a child, he thinks something went wrong which then makes him extra cautious on wishes. However unbeknownst to him, his wish created the star who can shape shift. The climax could be Asha and Magnifico teaming up to defeat some threat (maybe a wish gone awry or Star get corrupted). Magnifico would learn that he needs help running the kingdom and Asha could learn to better listen to the guidance of her elders. The final scene would be her taking on the apprentice role

I think this goes into today modern media problems of how much self awareness should creative media make before all care is lost. Like should we be looking for more immersive story telling. Respect girl, however, if it were me I would have made Asha an orphan who would get adopted by the queen and king and loves and respects her "parents" dearly, only for her to discover the truth when she is finally coming of age and finds herself torn between keeping her silence or exposing the only people who had ever showed her any sympathy in her life (besides her friends). Like you said the king not granting wishes is not really doing anyone any harm, so why not make Asha think this in her own mind. And yes, "So I Make This Wish" would be sung, but as a lullaby as she recounts the kids in the orphanage and how they would sing this song every night before drifting off to sleep. Similar to Aladdin's character a real "diamond in the rough." She finds herself on old sacred grounds and unknowingly makes a "wish" hoping to find guidance as she once did as a child... This would be shown as either a flashback or our introduction to the film. Thus showing us a wonderous, yet caring and hopeful side to Asha, which she would keep with her even after she was accepted into the Royal family. But plot twist, it would turn out that the same place where she made her wish as a child is the Star boy's home grounds, where he had been keeping an eye on Asha from afar as her real mother and father were the ones who saved his life, but lost their own lives in the process. He tells Asha how her own parents gave up their lives to save their people, by ridding themselves of their magic to thwart the first king of Rosoa. Following this up by saying, "their last request, was for me to take you to your great-grandfather so, he could raise you as one of his own. But when I got there... he had fled from his home. I was just a kid, how would I know how to raise a child, but I knew I could not leave you alone. And then I saw it, a place where you could call home." This would also be a flashback. Yes, I am being inspired by Meet the Robinsons. The rest of the story would play out the same way but with a few more twists added in. Like, Asha finding out that the first king was Magnico's father and her "grandfather," Asha realizing that the spell book is what gives her "father" his power, and Star boy asking Asha for her help to save their people as the king and queen have been harnessing the wishes and that magic comes from their land. Yes, Asha like her parents is a star and has powers, but realizes that she can only unleash this force through the power of love... the same type of love that her parents had for her and their homeland. Also, Asha would learn how to channel this magic through her great-grandfather who would be 100 years old at this point... due to the magic flowing through him. This scene would play out similarly to Hercules meeting Phil for the first time, only with Kung Fu Panda 2 vibes. Anyways, great video Hez.🥰🎶🌠

I'm so annoyed that they changed Starboy to a literal star, cause "Oh no, what makes him different from Genie?", when you consider the fact that: Magical female characters in Disney: Fairy godmother from Cinderella, the 3 faries and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, the one from Pinocchio, Madam Mim from The Sword in the Stone, The Evil Queen from Snow White, Mary Poppins, Ursula from The little Mermaid, the one from Beauty and the Beast. Was never a problem having 11! characters with the same abilities and gender throughout a span of 54 years (never mind 4! in the same movie!). Heck! , Asha even becomes another! fairy godmother figure without that! being an issue! But Starboy and Genie, the only other male, magical character I can think of, being similar when they were created 31 years apart from eachother, that's two too similar characters too many?! What's worse they is that they could've given the reason a wish doesn't get granted despite how innocent it is because it can snowball to chaos. Or that's what caused the Magnifico's home to be destroyed because an innocent wish went awol.
@Flutterdark_
@Flutterdark_ 3 месяца назад
yeah. magic, when unrestricted, can do that. even innocent stuff can escalate. i look at magic systems often when they come up and some stuff really just can escelate "i want control over plants so that we have good harvests" dude get in a bad mood and suddenly we have PULSE Tangrowth shenanigans "i want to be able to make water so we can always dring" dudes in a bad mood and a house gets flooded "i want to be super strong to help with construction" you get the point and these are some actually good natured wishes. but humans are fickle creatures and that argument could have been used to block most of the supernatural ones and the kingdom in general feels like a chill place before the movie starts so where is the problem? didnt this entire movie get started cause one person got salty that their grandpas wish never got granted? if something like that can cause the entire movie to happen no wonder wish granting was so restrictive.

It's like the opposite of that dumb movie Wonder Woman 1984. In that movie, all wishes are bad. Every person makes a selfish wish except the little kid. Meanwhile, in "Wish" they want every wish to be granted, because every wish is considered good by the so-called heroes. In both movies, the wishes are so mundane. (They also both have Chris Pine, but that's neither here nor there.)

Everything about this movie just… isn’t enough. Asha doesn’t have enough personality, the friends don’t have enough screen time to establish them, especially the happy one, magnificent didn’t have enough time to show a difference between him being his normal control freak nature vs his under control nature, the queen didn’t get enough of anything, I would’ve loved to see her start as a somewhat villainous character but only because she’s doing what she thinks is best for the kingdom, similar to magnifico, only to realize shit hit the fan once she realized he’s possessed,speaking of which, the forbidden magic didn’t get enough time to establish itself, none of the visuals had enough color or style, the songs don’t have enough to make them unique, they end up sounding like ai generated Lin Manuel songs, and none of the visuals of said songs have enough going on despite having interesting visual ideas like mirrors, stars, light, and magic surges. It’s just so disappointing. The epitome of it has to be magnificos villain song. I like that it’s strangely chipped to reinforce that he sees himself as the hero, but it doesn’t change enough at the end or do enough visuallyc lyrically, or vocally to show his descent into true evil. Wish is just… diss
@LauraM96829
@LauraM96829 3 месяца назад
Another major problem I have is that Asha’s quest has no urgency to it. Literally everyone in the kingdom is shown to be overwhelmingly happy and energetic even without their wishes. An easy way to fix this would be to show everyone miserable or drain of all hope and light without their wishes, just going through their regular 9-5 jobs with little to no enthusiasm in life. I think it would have been better to make the king and queen pure evil from the start, and have them harvest wishes to make the population easier to control, and they only grant the wishes of people who are the most loyal to them. It’s similar to the villain from Kelly Barnhill’s Girl who Drank the Moon, where the town elders convince the people that the there is a vengeful witch who will destroy their town if they don’t sacrifice a baby to her every year. When in reality the witch is a perfectly kind old women who has been delivering the abandoned children to loving homes while their birth parents spend the rest of their lives grieving, allowing the villains to maintain a tighter grip on the town. What if that tragic backstory Magnifico tells Asha is revealed halfway through the movie to have been a lie, and he uses that story of greedy bandits destroying his family to make the people think that wishes are dangerous. That everyone is selfish and evil at their core and the only way to live in harmony is to have all desire taken away. And when Asha sees the wishes for herself, she sees how beautiful they truly are, and while some of them are selfish desires, a lot of them are either harmless or even selfless desires to help people. She realizes that the things she’s been taught are lies and that not all people are as selfish and evil as the king has said. Maybe you even have it so the magic makes it impossible for them to remember or be reminded their wish once they’ve given it to the king. Imagine a scene where the women who wants to make dresses is window shopping with some friends and sees a beautiful ballroom gown in the window of a shop. She starts imagining what it would be like to design something so beautiful, and Asha sees that hope start to return to her eyes. And just as she’s about to declare her wish, she immediately forgets it and becomes depressed again. The animation could even take a page out of Cats Don’t Dance, by showing the characters literally becoming more colorful as they start thinking about their wishes, and then gray again when they forget.

@Petit, No - the story started, because Asha discovered how selfish King Magnifico was being. Magnifico is saying that just to live in his country, you have to give him a piece of yourself that you might never get back. And it's a core piece, big enough to change your personality, like how Simon goes from being energetic to sleepy. Not only do you have to give it, you won't remember your wish and your drive from before, so you won't even know what you're missing. That's the issue - giving up your deepest desires and goals in life, for good, regardless of whether those wishes are not selfish.

Now that I think about it, the ability to grant an 18 year old’s wish is terrifying. Like what about forcing someone to fall in love, killing someone, or reviving the dead? Say a family member dies a day before the ceremony. Can Magcifico revive them with zero consequences to himself or the deceased? Even the Genie from Aladdin explains that he can’t (or won’t since he implies he doesn’t *like* reviving people) grant certain wishes. Even the Fairly Odd Parents have a rule book! I really feel this movie was supposed to be an origin story for the evil queen and her magic mirror, hence why the queen was so ambivalent towards her husband being trapped within it; she got her wish, to be the sole ruler of the kingdom. Like, I can see her manipulating magnifico into doing all these evil deeds just so she can get what she wanted. This is why there's so many references to Snow White in particular, because this was supposed to explain whwre the evil queen came from and the source of her magic.

Honestly that seems like a more insterest premise-well, anything is more insteresting than what we got but still. honestly, that's what I thought the original concepts were going for, where they were an evil couple in love and once her husband was foiled, she became the evil queen in Snow White. but no, she's just a good guy out of nowhere and casts aside her long time husband who she helped build a kingdom with no regret or remorse. you could've just kept her evil, disney, it would've been fun.

It just makes everyone in Rosas seem lazy and unimaginative, they don't want to apply themselves to build a carreer with their own effort, they'd rather give their wish to Magnifico in the sliver of chance that they are the ones whose wish gets granted one day. Honestly it would make more sense if the reason why so many people want to live in Rosas is because Magnifico provides everything to them without even taxing people but the price to live there is that you have to give up your wish to him, treat that with the gravity it deserves, you get a comfortable life in exchange for losing the greatest wish of your heart, cause Magnifico is using the wishes to power his own magic. I don't know why they didn't have him destroying wishes to power his magic from the beggining in the movie, have that be a secret and have Asha find that out after she's been his aprentice for a while (I know from experience asking your boss for a favor on your first day is a bad idea), have her try to reason with him and when that fails have her take more drastic measures to stop him, only could I get behind her actions.

literally the tagline of the movie was "be careful what you wish for" written on the poster next to the villain but we can never assume that it makes any sense. Asha only makes one wish and since she makes it, everything is fine with her. If she had made Magnifico evil by mistake then yes, it would all make sense not to mention she would feel responsible and it would be much more personal to her. It's like they saw the reaction to Encanto's Abuella and went 'DO IT AGAIN'. The thing is, it worked with Encanto because generational trauma just works like that. While a KING hoarding wishes because Trauma falls flat, so they scrambled to find a reason on why he was evil - I'd fully believe a corrupt, paranoid king falling to villainy when people weren't happy with his choices if they COMMITTED to that as him snapping that it wasn't working and then being selfish because he feels cheated because of 'all he's sacrificed for them'. That might have actually been a good story, especially if the war on his homeland introduced him to the brutal choices he'd need to make. The concept of wishes would work in my opinion if they didn't treat it as a joke. Imagine if Asha's grandfather wish was to for example see love of his life one last time and after Asha asks Magnifico for it she discovers most wishes are very personal and sensitive: someone wants their deadly illness to be cured, other person wants to have family, someone else wants to find their lost kid etc. all completely safe and reasonable to grand but Magnifico keeps choosing insignificant silly ones almost like he wants to make problems disappear by ignoring them. I don't care that grandpa didn't bother to learn guitar his whole life and excepted Magnifico to magically give him this ability, Asha rebelling the entire city for it is not a strong motivation just buy him a guitar lessons learning that skill at age of 100 is arguably more inspirational than the wish itself. This movie lacks emotional core because everything is a joke, everything is painfully safe and the only stakes is that random old man you don't care about might not learn how to play music.
@jessoliveiro8975

THIS. "Painfully safe". My god, I've been looking for a way to describe why this film felt so soft-shelled! The moment I saw the first actual wish being granted, which was to just have a successful career handed on a silver platter, I gave up on the movie taking itself seriously. The wishes felt like the most BARE bones, "thought of this at 3am" wants I've ever come across in a wish themed movie! It's something a CHILD would write down because the quick and easy way to success involves less hardwork and kids generally wouldn't think that hardwork and earning the success is much more fulfilling than just getting it at once! And you're on point about the emotional core NOT hitting, because...what exactly IS THERE to strive and root for?? Grandpa could had easily granted his wish by playing songs for people, even if he had forgotten his end goal for his wish, that lady who wanted to be an adventuress could had just left, why exactly did they need Magnifico's help?? There's no wish from an orphan wishing they had a family, or another citizen wishing they had their childhood pet back, the wishes are so silly and wishy washy that I'm legitimately shocked that ADULTS (not pining it on the creative crew themselves) thought this was acceptable to put it in there for their 100TH ANNIVERSARY. Especially after Last Wish BLEW storytelling in a "kids' film" out of the water! And the deleted scenes showed the reasons as to WHY the people wanted the wishes they had granted, and they hit SO MUCH harder than the final product!
@fractalgem

Yesssss this. They pick silly, almost trivial things. It feeds right into magnifico being right to hoard wishes. So many people give him their wishes because "its too hard", for the chance of winning wish lotto and getting it handed to them on a silver platter.

That weird tidbit about the island being in the Mediterranean (despite the costuming, flora and fauna giving Brother’s Grimm fairytale) makes me want to tear my hair out because it was basically them turning to the camera and saying “and *that’s* why there can be brown and black people 🥰” because apparently there has to be some contrived justification for non-white people to be in the fairytale. Instead of, and I don’t know I’m just spitballing here, IT’S A MAGICAL FAIRYTALE LAND?? We don’t need the melting pot explanation, the people should just be people, and that should be enough?? And Rosas is just an unserious name. I don’t even remember there being rose motifs. Why that name? What’s its significance? Why not just go full meta and call it the Magic Kingdom? The Kingdom of Rosas isn't just any "melting pot fantasy kingdom" It's based off of Moorish Spain. Which makes me so mad because Moorish Spain is GORGEOUS! Take a second to google image what it looks like and be prepared to be blown away. It is a fascinating combination of north African, West European, and Bohemian Romani culture, and Disney wasted the opportunity to bring that spectacular region of the world to life and instead made everything gray and uninspired.

2:05 Augh, still hurts. I love that design so much. Imagine actually going full force with adapting The Snow Queen. Going harder into its themes and aesthetic, and more into Norwegian culture. Would've been so cool. And you still could've had the sister dynamic. Just make the protagonists two sisters, maybe one is "cursed" by the snow queen to have powers. Then she has to accept herself. Maybe we find out the snow queen isn't truly bad after all so we don't have another evil mistress. Ah well, I'm just glad they even show use these concepts, willingly or not. I feel like Disney has great ideas, then they slap them down last second to make something generic. Frozen, Wish, Zootopia, etc. (I also adore some of the animators doing 2D practice of the characters, they look miles better and more interesting.)

12:52 there is just one problem with any potential disney crossover, and we have seen it manifest in Kingdom Hearts 3 DISNEY IS WAY TOO SCARED FOR THIS. so to anyone that played KH3 it is very obvious that outside of olympus collosium sora and gang were so far removed from the world plot of the actual disney worlds that we have full scenes of sora just standing in the background and watching the movie happen. heck apparently frozen world had a draft involving elsas darkness, which given she had to hide her powers for years and now is scared as fuck once the eternal freeze starts is ALOT of natural potential for darkness to form in the kh universe. but disney was like "noooooo she a princess you cant even imply there is bad shit" which is why you fight a manifestation of Hans darkness instead, a character that, in the kh3 world, LITERALLY HAD ONLY TWO SCENES and only one scene where a non movie watcher would even have an INKLING that hes a bad guy. so for modern disney to do a crossover and for it to work we either have to enter a completely peaceful / only prankster level setting, like house of mouse was or they need to stop being scared of letting characters be ACTUALLY EVIL FOR THE SAKE OF IT again. there is so much potential in an actual disney crossover. heck just take maleficents villian group from kh1. there is your base you could run so wild with that even fi you exclude ursula due to it being land based. but no modern disney is too scared to have a villian. heck even Wish needed to make up a BULLSHIT DARK MAGIC CORRUPTION book to get manifico to a villain status IN ITS OWN MOVIE. and even then the setting isnt good enough to sell him as a villain. now that i think about it. FUCKING GENSHIN IMPACT DID THIS BETTER no im actually serious. fucking genshin did this better. In Genshin people with strong ambition / aspiration or other strong characteristics of that sort are granted a vision, a thing that gives em elemental powers. take it away and the person also seems to lose these characteristics and becomes very depressed. this is seen in the 2.0 story quests. according to everything i know about wish people dont get depressed or are even affected much by their wish not being granted yet. how in the fuck did you mess that up? the kingdom should be full of very depressed people with how many ungranted wishes there are to even attempt to sell the dude in charge of them being an antagonist. and by giving him this motivation of being like "my old place got fucked so im not allowing dangerous wishes" actually makes perfect sense. magic is a really busted tool if not restricted in writing so not giving dangerous powers makes sense. im sorry that this comment on disney crossover now ended in me also ranting about the movie but roh my god disney needs to start writing better stuff again. and not just pander to some sjw people or china

@@jessoliveiro8975yeah and instead of doing sympathetic villain or 100% evil, (which they tried to do both and ended up failing at both) they could have totally had an opportunity to do a decent into villainy villain, a breaking bad type character. Like the scene when he’s warning the people about this unknown magic source and how it could be very dangerous to the kingdom the only thing he hears is the people only really caring about their wishes and their wants. Like the kingdom in his mind is in danger and the people’s lives could be demolished but all they care about is their selfish desires and wanting more & more despite the kingdom in itself being peaceful , this could have been perfect lead in to “this is the thanks I get” but instead of trying to make it ironic/comedic make it his genuine anger at the fact he provides so much yet no one is satisfied. Then by the end of the film he believes no one should have their wishes, because they will only bring chaos and that absolute order & control is the only way to keep the kingdom surviving

@@christopherauzenne5023 I LEGITIMATELY thought, based on the trailer ALONE, that they were going to make a "both sides are right and wrong", grey area kind of story, something I see quite RARELY from storytelling where the demographic is mainly the next generation, in this case, meant for people who GREW UP with Disney and want their children to have the same love and nostlagia for it. Hearing beforehand how the king is "breathing life back into old school Disney villiany" and then WATCHING the "poorly quality compressed" trailer however, I went "THEY CAN'T BE SERIOUS. Dude's right about the world not being sunshine and rainbows and people have DARK mindsets, he can create the most heavenly utopia where no one has a want for anything, but those evil people still exist! Are they seriously trying to frame him as the villian for THAT logic??" Mother Gothel made a similar statement about dangers of the real world (difference was she said all that for her own needs, Magnifico's traumatised and seen first-hand the worst in humans), and IT shows! The Stabbinton brothers, initially the entire Snuggling Duck tavern, the story doesn't pretend that bad/shady people don't exist! Wish REALLY tried to sell the "bad people don't exist so the king's being illogical and thus evil because he didn't give in to an old man that he DOES NOT know and grant him his very vague that could start a revolution wish!"

When you consider that the king as a child went through great trauma and misery with his town destroyed and family killed, it was likely he escaped and wished, even begged, to the stars for some kind of reprieve to this suffering. He got no response from the heavens, and thus he learned magic and founded his own kingdom where he vows to never let something like that to happen again. He says no _once_ to some girl who is coming off as entitled, and she wishes to the heavens vaguely, and the heavens answers her call and comes to her aid. What? If I were the king, I would think the universe is out to get me, with how my call was ignored but this entitled girl with no real issues gets the stars to answer? Apparently, there was going to be an emotional scene between the king and the little star thing, where when he had it captured, he merely looked at it and poignantly asks, "What makes the girl [Asha] so special? Where were you when I needed you?" I can see why they deleted this scene, since it just destroys the entire premise of the movie and makes the king 100% right.

I feel that "terrible" isn't a strong enough word to describe this movie. I completely understand why people tore this movie apart because...we were basically lied to about what this movie was going to be. And worst of all, it's the movie that Disney used to celebrate its one-hundredth year anniversary - that's the absolute worst part - ending things on a very low note. This might actually be Disney's worst animated movie. The story is predictable and confusing. The characters are boring and unrelatable. The humor wasn't funny. The music, which is often one of the best things in a Disney movie, also isn't very good. We see the potential the movie has, but it was completely ignored. There was nothing redeemable about this movie at all. I mean, how did Magnifico's old kingdom perish; why do you forget about your wish when you give it away; how are people aware if their wishes are granted or not; why did Magnifico use the black magic book before Star became a real threat; how does magic work in this land; how did the Star come down to Earth; why have the whole movie be filled with references; etc. Why was Magnifico even a villain in the movie? From the very start of the movie, it is explained that he did whatever he could to make a peaceful and welcoming kingdom. He grants the wishes of his people, and desires to protect. He even refuses to grant wishes that are too vague out of fear that it might bring ruin to the kingdom. Because of this, the kingdom is thriving, and all the people love and respect him. I'm sorry, but that's not at all what a villain is. And suddenly he's the bad guys simply because...to be the bad guy? Having him use a book full of dark magic, despite being fully aware that he will become completely possessed by it? Forcing someone into the villain role is downright annoying. Asha is very awkward and quirky when she really doesn't have to be. Plus, she doesn't really do anything, nor does she learn a valuable lesson, or grow as a character. Asha, honestly, doesn't deserve to be the next wish granter because she hasn't really accomplish anything - whereas Magnifico actually worked hard and went through hardships to gain his power. So in a way, Asha is the real villain; because all she did was complain and imprisoned a man who brought peace and unity to his kingdom. Star was pointless, because all it did was make animals talk, bring plants to life, and was there to be cute. Valentino was also quite useless, because he didn't bring anything. Even Asha's seven are basically irrelevant. Why not have Asha be part of the natives from Rosa, who are also naturally gifted in "healing magic". Asha, having the most potential out of all her people, becomes Magnifico's first and only apprentice. She finds out that Magnifico only grants wishes that are harmless to his position in power, and the rest are left in the vault - but in reality, he absorbs those wishes to further fuel his already powerful magic…and maybe he was the real reason for his old kingdom's downfall. Asha uses her magic to unintentionally cause a star to land on Earth. As Magnifico is aware that the star's power actually eclipses his own, and uses the dark book to become powerful enough to steal Star's magic. Asha, remembering her grandfather's and late father's words about wishes, is able to encourage everyone to take back their wishes as they have the power make them real. Star escapes the staff's mirror and imprisons Magnifico in his place. While the kingdom of Rosas repairs itself, Amaya is revealed to be the true mastermind behind all of Magnifico's evil deeds; and vows to one day free her beloved husband. Or why not have Asha be Magnifico and Amaya's adopted or biological daughter - imagine having to battle your own parents in order to save your home. Another version is Asha doesn't know what she really wants - as she has all she needs, plus is very helpful and reliable in Rosas. Magnifico still refuses to grant Sabino's vague wish, and explains that his old kingdom was destroyed because a being from the stars granted everyone's wish and caused mayhem to spread. The being than abandoned everyone as the kingdom tore itself apart (Magnifico and Amaya being the only survivors). Asha wishes upon a star and Star appears, and the two grant most of the wishes - however, Star, still not in full control of his powers, unintentionally causes mayhem and disorder. Magnifico, aware he is not powerful enough to stop all the chaotic magic hesitantly uses the dark book. Sabino suffers a heart attack during a scuffle, and regrets not being able to inspire people with his music - but Asha reveals that his music made people happy and inspired them to help others - Sabino dies peacefully in his sleep. Magnifico steals Star's magic, but Asha is able to realize the magic that all people have and their connection to the stars. Magnifico is defeated and imprisoned. Leaving his kind wife to replace him as ruler. Amaya and Asha promise to find a way to free and cure Magnifico. Asha learns that Magnifico had a system to keep everyone safe from themselves, and that not every wish should be granted. Star, aware he's not meant to live in this world, gives Asha a wand made of his magic - they share a kiss before he returns among the other stars.

I have to say this is perhaps the most Boring Disney Movie to Date, like Baldur in GOW I legit felt Nothing and it felt more of a Insult to 100th Years of One of the most Inspiring Companies that have become a Broken Image of Itself with the Magic being twisted into a Confusing Mess, I didn’t even care if it was the 100th Anniversary Special as we got one in a Form of a Short and I just wanted a Good Disney Movie for Once, but sadly it seems like it would take a few more years for Disney to get back in Shape, Real Talk here Magnifico should have been the Main Character and Asha as the Main Threat, or show that some of those Wishes are Truly Dangerous full of dark Desires, or make the King and Queen as the First Disney Villain Couple, or Show Magnifico’s Backstory and Motivation, or show that sometimes it’s better that we don’t get our wishes as it’s could be one of those things we should be careful, but instead it’s too Safe and I’m glad I watch Thanksgiving on my Birthday in Theaters than This.

wish is so confusingly bad that people can argue which way they should even fix it, should it have a more tragic magnifico or should it have a pure evil magnifico with an evil wife? should the goat be funny or should there be no goat? should there be an explanation why star isn't powerful or should they make star powerful? should the grandpa die or even be in the movie? the wishes are so messy that they can go in a lot of directions, the movie doesn't want to be too dark but the wishes are way too complicated for small kids to get since most adults can't square the hole anyway or however that saying goes, it also could turn out that if wish had more development time it could turn into a whole other movie like how zootopia was originally a much grimmer concept and lots of other examples of movies that went a whole other direction from where they started. sometimes inspiration just strikes unexpectedly and takes your writing in a direction you never thought it would, i think that's why wish feels so empty, you don't believe the writer knows what it's like to lose something important to them and is able to channel it properly the way rennaisance disney movies can, mother knows best was inspired by things people saw in real life and that's why it's so beautifully scary while not overwhelming, it's also why magnifico isn't that fun to watch, you can imagine writers joking with each other about being the disney villain and what they'd say, cruella de vil's inspiration in the original book came from a lighthearted joke about a dog being pretty, anyway point is that you can imagine cosplayers or the original writers nerding out about what characters would do and what they would think, but magnifico lacks that, it's as if they think he's malefiscent but malefiscent was never as destructive to take over a kingdom and block out the very stars so people can't wish on them, it would make more sense if he was still being overprotective but then we get back where we started, who knows what wish could become on rewrites, it'll never be official, just a popular fanfic category

5:35 maybe this world runs on D&D logic he's worried that Asha's Saba will become a bard and overthrow him with vicious mockery. I've had this idea for a while that Wish isn't a movie, it's a template for a D&D campaign.

Hahahahaha!😂 That is and would be so funny and savage! But then again, give the general public an incentive (whether be it through song or another medium), and you have/can have a rebellion on your hands. Also, I don’t think even D&D logic would smoothly apply to the “world” of Rosas. The logic in Rosas just feels jumbled together without coherent, deep thinking.

Disney is so incredibly funny based on the fact thet literally every else in the animation industry is blowing it out the park when it comes to pushing forward the medium of animation while they continue to fumble for crying out load blue skies last hurrah which was Nimona felt more impactful than the entirety of wish

There's a lot of rewrites that include the star as the love interest(yes they were meant to be a love interest but Disney was cowardly to do it)and villain couple heck the rewrites i seen made asha a Better main character.

Her grandfathers wish was within his own power to grant. Magnifico didn't grant it because granting it would have robbed the young man of the chance to actualize it himself.
