Far out mate this really puts it in perspective, don't take this the wrong way but I used to get really caught up on how much forest we had lost here in aotearoa. Seeing this shows me how lucky we are. Its sad to think about that hand full of trees, probably not to know they are the last like them left. Hopefully your channel takes off and inspires heaps of you brits to start rewilding your home. Dont get me wrong its nice to have tourists here to see our forests, but sad to think this is what they return to.

Fascinating -- why do ye not so much lichen?

Aren't Alpine mosses and lichen the ones you really have to worry about harming by walking on them? Like yes if people were trudging through there in work boots on the same spots every day it would do damage. But most mosses are way more resilient than people are giving credit. Especially if they are well moisturized and healthy. Someone taking a few steps off the trail to get a good photo or take a leak usually isn't going to cause much damage. I could be wrong depending on the species of moss. But as I said most of the high risk ones are high altitude alpine mosses.

shame the landowners let it get this small i can only imagine what it would have looked like when it was all forest
