Glad to see more people getting into type moon works ❤️ just clarification, mahoyo takes place in the tsukihime side of nasuverse. specifically the tsuki remake timeline. But a differing version of similar events also happens in fate timelines as well
You say how they made a lot of money from their mobile game and stuff..but Mahoyo looked like this in 2012 before F/GO was ever a thing lol. Only thing really new is the resolution and that the original did not have voice acting.
This was originally released 3 years before FGO, so it's thanks to pure skill and dedication that they were able to make it look this good, not FGO funds. They don't seem to have changed much for the rerelease asides from adding in voices.
Nasu's actually was very inspired from the famous Evangelion and the character such as Asuka that this story; the game was for. This was his first story as a novel and published it but didn't win 1st place or something. the after he was done with Kara no Kyoukai (Garden of Sinners), Tsukihime and Fate, including the 6 page story that has information, called Notes. Sidenote: There's a differences between a Mage, Magician and Witch.
Regarding fate stay night, I can tell you right now if your reading fate route (which probably has my favorite romance and character development in retrospect) shirou is written with those weird one off lines in Japanese as well. It's not a translation issue by mirror moon. Shiki in the og tsuki is pretty much similar in the casual sexist lines he can say. But the difference with Shirou is that what he says is not actually what he means and his monologue and inner perspective is extremely important to understanding what his character actually is. It can be very off putting and its not uncommon to come away with a similar sentiment as yours without re reading 😂 especially if you watch the anime adaptions. On top of that, nasu has actually called himself out in interviews on how shirou says certain things, in that he intended it at certain times to evoke of feeling but it could be taken totally wrong. And that he would change that if he could rewrite things. So I guess to his credit there is that 😂
This was a really fun video to listen to, I love train of thoughts style videos like this! I just finished this pretty recently, would love to hear about what you think of the finale. Shirou in Fate route does indeed suck. I like him in it because I like flawed characters, but he's certainly not very likeable as a person until he stops with the PTSD triggered complaining that Saber is saving his life. The author got a little too caught up in his "must make everything about male/woman divide" thing, which I think he's admitted he'd like to fix if he could. But in Unlimited Blade Works and especially Heaven's Feel he becomes one of my favourite protagonists ever. There's just so much depth to him.
Oh good to hear! I was hoping so. I knew that it was done very much on purpose, but yeah, I thought Nasu went a little too far with it. Good to see him grow as a character haha.
Some of the wordy and complex lore heavy moments of Mahoyo are poorly put together. The translator was either not very experienced/good or it wasnt proof read and no QA. About completing the first Fate route, its only 1 part of the series. Fate route covers setting up the...setting, the rules of the world. The next route UBW, delves deeper into character motivations and reasons why they fight.
about the characters in F/SN, I agree with you must of the characters in that VN didn't hit with me expaclly the female cast for some restion must of what I read made me exited for the dudes more then the girls so much so the girls I like the must of that VN are the one the talk the lest I hope my comment will not be talking as me shiting or girls I am just saying the girls in the three routs in F/SN did not intreset me in personal level, and sometimes they feel like an excuse for shiro's character arcs.
I definitely agree with your take on Shirou from fate stay night I History his character was quite insufferable in the visual novel although I will say they really did fix his character a lot in the anime!
I'll disagree anime made Shirou not interesting and made him more typical protag whereas the vn goes to length to show his suffering and basically how dead inside he is how his heroism coming from guilt none of these are shown in anime
