We are all fans of many bands but Ian Anderson and Tull on 50 years of reflection i think are certainly amongst the very elite. Anderson was not only a great songwriter, musical composer and arranger but played many instruments superbly well. Also self taught. And although maniacally looking on stage was one of the few that didn’t allow fame to overtake him Incredibly humble person
I don't understand how this video can get 50 unlikes. Ian and Jethro Tull is one of the best bands in the world. ❤ Love this song and love Ian. He has a great voice and can play many instruments 🎸 Good music. I love 60s and 70s ❤ Better music than nowadays ☺
The thumbs down dislikes are from the undereducated and dumbed down individuals of our "modern" times who can only appreciate "music" that sounds like nursery rhymes !!!###
I’d love to be sitting in a field with a couple of cans on a hot summers evening listening to this classic sound. If it ever stops raining in Newcastle in 2024, a field in Northumberland is where I shall b very soon enjoying this very track!
Can you believe there was a time when pop musicians wrote their songs? When the melody was more than 5 notes and actually provoked feelings? When speaking in a song was a stylistic element and not a whole genre?
Every time i listen to this song I get a brain shiver...this song really resonates within me... I can feel it...sometimes I even tear up... I must have heard it a thousand times or more in my life time... it only gets better.. it still an olde friend io never tire of.
Jethro Tull...one of the finest...It was a time when music was FUN, and musicians really COULD play their instruments..I feel blessed that I lived thru this era...lucky old me..
I am jealous I can only look back on the past 50 years of music :P Nothing nowadays can compete. Kind of sad :'( Well, at least it will not be forgotten.
True... Then Ian started to practice and does it right today. It was a miss spelling with fingers at wrong position or something alike. He told it was not easy to start over again.
This has always been my favorite song from that time and i never tire listening to it. I had a very good friend called Ciggy Shaw who was a drummer with the rocking vickers, Who played gigs around the Blackpool area, Ian Anderson was a friend of their's and ciggy used to tell me tales of what they all used to get up to.Wish i had been there, sadly Ciggy Passed away 2010 miss him lots and his stories. Keep rocking Jethro Tull.
You and I must be about the same age as I used to go to the Queens (if I remember correctly) on a Sat night where Rev Black and the Rocking Vicars were regulars. Their rhythm guitarist (can't remember his name) joined my friend's group, The Moonie Gang to beef up their line up. Ah, those were the days!!!
Imagine if someone like Ian Anderson fronted up on X Factor nowadays-the image conscious panel would have a fit! Everything is so visual nowadays-but Ian Anderson had something most X Factor contestants don't-pure God given talent!
One of the only bands I truly love all of their music, even the strange under wraps album, Ian Anderson is incredibly talented, so lucky to have seen them live, hoping around playing the flute on one leg, a brilliant memory!
Absolute Classic. Never before or since did T.O.P have any song (or band) like this on it. Barre, Cormick and company (looking like they didnt want to be there)bored out of their heads cause their miming. Female dancers havent got a clue what to do.Jimmi can;t understand it !! But Ian gives it 150% with his facial antics and the most scary eyes (and dodgy teeth) in the business. Worth it for the visuals alone - made me laugh out loud. Nothing like this or this good would get 'on air' today.
My first real girlfriend had this to say about Jethro Tull (after watching him sing and perform). "Well, I learned something new today! You don't have to be good at something to be good." We were teenagers and I thought to myself, "She is so profound. How did she come up with that???"
Awesome song, and truly amazing performance...despite all the faces he's pulling, Ian Anderson is still HOT in this video! He never was on drugs, he's just a true showman and a musical genius.
Ah, memories of my younger days, still playing Tull today, though my 25 year old son thinks I'm strange!!! They were different and I thought they were great. Still sounds good.
As a child, I had an FM radio that had no stations and one day when I was getting high Jethro Tull came on the air it was a new day yesterday, but it’s an old day now
these guys and the moody blues are the most underated groups ever.. Both are not in the rock and roll Hall of fame which is criminal.. Both are easily in the same level as the Who Pink Floyd and Zep
+Ken Dixon I agree that both are underrated (both are among my favorites), and I respect your opinion, but I personally feel that there are groups that are more underrated; Strawbs, Barclay James Harvest, Camel, Renaissance to name a few.
Although I admit, in retrospect its more than a little creepy watching him stick his flute in between Martin's legs, especially given the thoroughly unceremonious way he dismissed him after nearly 45 years with the band.
Those were the days!!! No one at that time performed live on TV shows such as this one and Jethro Tull was no exception, but they did the best job of appearing to be playing live of anyone! In the early days of the band Ian was doing the frontman as mad derelict to wonderful effect! Outside of TV shows, in concert and on record the level of performance and musicianship was second to none!
@@Grovesgeo I actually agree with the review citing A Passion Play as the best of them all, despite the critic's destroying it. Also, loved almost all of the music through the 70's but after that, with the except of Broadsword, not so much.
one of my older brothers turned me on to tull when i was 12 or 13 im 33 now this is my favorite vid seen them live once in toledo OH best show i ever saw
Lend me your ear while I call you a fool. You were kissed by a witch one night in the wood, and later insisted your feelings were true. The witch's promise was coming, believing he listened while laughing you flew. Leaves falling red, yellow, brown, all are the same, and the love you have found lay outside in the rain. Washed clean by the water but nursing its pain. The witch's promise was coming, and you're looking elsewhere for your own selfish gain. Keep looking, keep looking for somewhere to be, well, you're wasting your time, they're not stupid like he is. Meanwhile leaves are still falling, you're too blind to see. You won't find it easy now, it's only fair. He was willing to give to you, you didn't care. You're waiting for more but you've already had your share. The witch's promise is turning, so don't you wait up for him, he's going to be late.
Big longtime fan. We always assumed that he/they were doing drugs. But I believe him. Seems I read a comment somewhere on an occasional recreational spliff. Whatever, he’s brilliant! Thank you, Ian
you watch ian anderson here and you can understand why they became one of the biggest bands in the world-he looks like a raving madman but you cannot take your eyes off him- fantastic performance-
how on earth is this considered pop music ? i mean the chord progression may be simple but the dynamics and the atmosphere and the melodies are nothing like pop
+the vomiting vicar relax for fuck sake , didn't we all think he was a weird bastard ,now we know he was . Don't get all girly about seeing a picture of him , we see Hitler and Stalin on TV and I think they may have been a bit worse , so grow up and stop getting Media hysterical
Love Ian in his "totally crazy guy" era. Seriously, if you saw this man walking down the street you would either give him a few quid or else quickly scurry away....
OMG I'm still laughing! Ian Anderson, I loved you when I was a mere 'schoolie' ... and even tho I'm an ol' fekker now, I love ya still.....thanks for the music.....
Even Saville's presence at the end makes this video perfect. He may or not have messed with the wrong (to himself, if course) people, after all, and got cursed...
