With a balanced hand, how do I show my correct strength after a 2-level response?

Thank you to William who sent in a question this week about how to bid again after a 2-level intervening bid.
In Acol, after a 1-level response by partner, a rebid of 1NT shows 15-16 points and 2NT shows 17-18 points.
If partner's responds at the 2-level, of course, we are denied the chance of a 1NT rebid. How do we accurately show our strength with a balanced hand without as many options?
For Standard players, we are faced with a similar dilemma if we open a major with 15+ points and a relatively balanced hand. In both cases, when partner responds at the 2-level, we are forced to choose between more limited options.

ACOL - Opening 1 of a suit shows 15-19 HCP and so after a 2 bid response 2NT shows bottom of that range whilst 3NT shows top of that range. Maybe easier than remembering HCP

With Acol, if partner bids 2C over 1D; doesn't it mean they have 10+ hcp?

Hi there great video- quick question when William mentioned an intervening bid- did he mean the opposition bidding at the 2 level? Does your rebid still show the same points as if partner had bid at the 2 level?

Great question, Sally. We'll be making another video soon with Graeme about exactly this. Stay tuned!

It is Acol, not ACOL. It is not an acronym.

I wish you would stop teaching the old fashioned Acol NT ladder. It is really much better if the 1N rebid shows 15-17 and 2N shows 18-19. The 3NT rebid is a slam killer and also leaves responder no room to explore for the best game.
