BY FULL FLIGHT IT MEANS IT INCLUDES ALL MAIN STAGES OF FLIGHT; NOT LITERALLY THE WHOLE FLIGHT!
Flight Details, route & more. Please read before commenting ----
Why so long? Simply because I wanted to give you guys as much detail as possible. Mainly with the descent, you can tell I filmed 85% of it with ATC. It's for people who are interested of the steps of descending beyond just looking out the window. You don't have to watch the full video as I know a lot don't have time. If you want to skip to approach then go to 50:00 minutes in. We were in the hold at Bovingdon (BNN) for around 25 minutes so didn't film all of it ha. Here are some Flight Details:
Callsign: United934
Flight: UAL934 Los Angeles LAX - London Heathrow LHR
Aircraft: Boeing 777-222/ER (N792UA)
Time: DEP: 5pm Local, ARR: 12:30pm Local
Date: DEP May 7th, ARR May 8th
Seat: 26A (Economy Plus, older cabin)
Route: 25R HOLTZ9 TRM PKE J78 DRK RSK HGO MCK MCW GRB J101 SSM YUY MT ROBBE STEAM OYSTR 55N050W 56N040W 56N030W 55N020W RESNO NETKI NIBOG UN551 BEL UL10 WAL NUGRA BNN1B 27R
How did I get ATC? United offers you to listen throughout on their Audio Channel 9, I then simply put my headphones to my Camera's Mic! For the Departure you can tell the ATC is lower, because I used United's headphones and not my ones unlike for the Arrival.
Camera? Sony HX100V Recorded and Edited in 1920x1080p 59.59FPS in Sony Vegas Pro
How's the flight? Well as you saw on my seat it was the older Cabin so the TV's were awful and not used. Good thing I had my Laptop, iPhone & a Window! Seats weren't too comfortable but not as bad as Virgin's! Service was great though, very friendly crew. Food however has gone down hill with United in my eyes, not the best so good thing I had Mc Donald's at the Airport ha. Flying back to the US on June 27th so hopefully I will get to experience their newer cabin. That's all I have to say, decent Flight but if you can go Air New Zealand on this route then I recommend them over UA. I didn't fly them because of the price as the Olympics prices were ridiculous so I had to take the cheaper option. Well second, Virgin were first ha! Anything else I haven't put you'd like to know comment below.
Enjoy!

I flew on a B772 to Orlando and back last month. I LOVED listening to the flaps and gear whines. They sound so cool when they make that noise. I also loved watching the flaperons adjust when we were taking off and landing. It was windy when we took of in Gatwick and they were moving like mad to keep the plane balanced. It was awesome. One day I'd like to captain 777s and 747s. "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going."

Cheers! Don't be nervous, it's great fun. Definitely get a window seat, helps put things at ease if you're nervous too. Like if you're in Turbulence you can look out and see it's just cloud, although you can get "Clear Air Turbulence". Plus the views can be breathtaking! Enjoy!

It's become the 'normal' - I think there's only a selection of people in the world that truly appreciate it! One of the reasons I do these videos - many aren't fortunate enough or old enough to travel the world on aircraft yet, so my goal here is to give other people besides the normal avgeeks watching the experience of that. Flying is a beautiful thing and I always get people to sit by the window if they're traveling. Always get a comment about how amazing it was!

HeathrowSpottingHD On a flight I had the biggest laugh of my life when I was having a conversation with a stranger at the airport. He was saying he was a pilot and he flew for many years and then we both see an A380 taxying past the gate and he points out and says, "That's that 747 with two floors, I flew that for 1 year." I looked at him, excused myself and went to the bathroom to laugh my head off.......I truly believed this guy until he said that load of bull shit, LOL.

Yeah it's one reason I picked them - minus their decent price! Unfortunately it's just music over the atlantic since they use CPDLC 99% of the time to communicate over HF radio rich environments. Also on the flight back the skipper turned off ATC shortly after they received clearance on the ground. It was then on for about an hour over Newfoundland. Could have been a malfunction or he actually just wanted it off. I should have asked really! Would have made another good video )-:

Thank you! No way don't let that put you off. It used to worry me but I listened to ATC, learnt the different terminology and procedures. It comes quick to some people, takes a while for others. Now ATC is my favourite part about flying, I can't wait to talk to London Control in the future :-). Don't worry! You'll learn throughout your PPL. If you use FSX get Vatsim and practice on there. Remember even these professionals mess up, very regularly. No one's perfect at it 100% of the time.

United Airlines makes the ATC available as part of the in flight entertainment system, usually Channel 9 on your audio panel. It's at the discretion of the Captain, so it isn't always turned on.

Thank you! No I left the engine sounds like that for a reason, I love all the sounds the 777 makes. If I didn't want the sounds I would have just recorded the ATC with a separate device and synced it up.

The cabin crew guy sounded so bored reading off the dont do this dont do that ect sounded like somebody out of Father Ted, and to those who dont know its an old british comedy show from a few years back. Ive flown united several times i found them ok . The incredible bit about this trip was the heathrow ATC guy speaking to this unìted flight is an old work mate . Good to see how his moved on in life . Good dvd enjoyed.

In Europe you'll only hear the term 'Super' expressed by ATC which is uniquely used for the A380. Heavy is not a requirement and ATC will nine times out of ten not read callsign back with 'Heavy' - however I'm always hearing Americans use it on Heathrow Director. Just a habit, like how I say Decimal when flying in the states whilst everyone else uses Point. Most approach controllers in the UK ask you to confirm your aircraft type on first contact with Director - as stated on the ATIS.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
Anywhere from 9-11 depending on the winds. The B777-200/ER's + B777-300 (Non-ER) don't have winglets - however the -300ER/LR/Freighter have what are called ''Raked wingtips'' which do the same job if better than winglets. The B772ER simply doesn't need it because its fuel burn is just as good without. Raked wingtips help with the range of the aeroplane too - not too many airlines these days take the -200ER's/-300's over 12 hours. Some do but not many. Simplest way I could put it - hope helped!
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
However in Europe and rest of the world you can get a clearance such as "Land after the touching down A320" or for a single runway operation you may hear "Land after the departing aircraft". It's actually somewhat common at Heathrow (first one) instead of giving a clearance to land at 100ft or so. Don't quote the phraseology though, probably does differ. However be the same concept from what I've heard on the radios. In this video, the landing clearance is around the normal time for Heathrow.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
Awesome to know - must be quite a job assembling one of these beauties! In the UK and majority of the world, a clearance to land is when the runway is entirely clear. In the US you use visual approaches - so the clearance you get can be when you're number five on the ILS! It's a landing clearance, not necessarily meaning the runway is clear. Even in GA where I fly (KSNA) - I get a clearance to land when I'm still a few miles out and not number one.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
Because they come on automatically to prepare certain systems for certain stages of flight. You see hydraulic pressure is removed from the flaperon then falls by it's own weight, it then gets aerodynamically pushed up then goes back to the 10 degree angle with the flaps. Pressure is normally restored around 80knts and it goes back to the yokes commanded position. It's to prevent fatiguing the actuators (ACES). Also you can hear the hydraulics retracting the landing gear - also flaps on climb.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
Depends on no one but the Flight Attendants. On the flight back to LA I got stopped and couldn't film the engine-start and had to wait for them to be seated. The Landing I was dodging her too. This flight no one seemed to care thankfully. An Air New Zealand FA was speaking to me whilst filming once, was perfectly fine with it. Just be discrete as possible, sometimes it's hard if you have to lean over to get a view for your window. Just keep an eye out for the FA's too.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
The 777 doesn't have winglets. Wingtip just means the end of the wing - every aircraft has them. The 200LR/F & 300ER have extended wingtips which are called "Raked Wingtips" - slightly different to winglets but do the same if better job. This is the B772ER and does not have any. None of United's 777's have those raked wingtips since they only have 200/ERs. You may have the 777 confused with the 76/75/73.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Correct it is the responsibility of ATC but, if you were core altitude with another aircraft with say one mile separation, for your own good and safety you'll want to know what they're doing. You'll want to know how many other aircraft are on approach, in the holding pattern - the list goes on! I don't know if you have any pilot licenses but if you did I'd imagine you'd understand when I say it's extremely good situational awareness to know others plans. Especially for VFR flying.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
ATC is exactly what is says, Traffic Control. If there was no ATC at Heathrow or even anywhere then.. well I think you'd look at crashes weekly. I'm a training Pilot and I find ATC exceptionally easy. Mainly because I've been listening to years so ATC for me is second nature. ATC are there to keep you separated from other Aircraft, vector you in for an approach like we did at LHR, lots of things! Safety is the number one priority whilst flying. Without ATC I don't think things could operate.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
The B767 does indeed have flaperons. However the B777/B787's have a few more modern technologies in side the whole system compared to the B767/B747. I think the B748 might share similar characteristics as the 77/78 but I cannot be completely sure. The B757 doesn't have flaperons though - that wing is similar to the B737NG.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
I would fly those airlines tomorrow. Unfortunately I don't have any reasons to fly to that side of the world! However I will in the near future. I'd gladly fly Emirates LAX>DXB>LHR (-; just the price likes to scare one away! Air New Zealand are the best airline on the Heathrow>Los Angeles route with BA close behind.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
Yeah he was behind us on the approach. By the way - it's LTCC/TMA (London Terminal Control Centre) not TRACON, that's a US term only. We don't refer to London as 'Departure or Approach' either, it's 'London Control'. Each airport has their own "Director" or "Radar" unlike the US, you're put on Vectors to final approach. Visual Approaches would die trying in London's TMA ha (-:
@airbxnee

It's whichever one they use on the A346. I haven't used IFE in years, Laptops-iPad/iPhone's is all I use, so having a USB and or Power is way more important to me. I just like having a nice flight map! Virgin went down hill a couple of years ago in my opinion. When I was 10 or so I used to fly to New Jersey a lot; they weren't as big then and were way better!
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
Thank you! Besides from the fact of it being a 772 & having ATC it wasn't the best flight. The only time I plan on flying United next will be on the B788 - for this route I recommend Air New Zealand, or BA are good in the summer when they have their 77W's on the route, which are way nicer than the 744's. I had to go with the cheapest direct option for this route unfortunately!
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Cheers. Standard acceleration height of 1,000AGL used so flaps weren't down for to long. For the 772 we would've probably had near enough 70% of all three tanks full. The 772/ER can fly just above 7,000nm depending on configuration, weight & routing. Pax wise the cabins were probably 85/90% full, not sure on freight. My guess would be around 220KG maybe, MTOW is 297KG!

This video is not aimed at everyone. It's aimed at a certain Audience, made up of Aviators, Boeing, 777, United & Heathrow fans. It's not for everyone, all people will not like it. Happy to say most do! If you read the description then you'd know how I have ATC and why the video is even this long! Cheers.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
I would love to, however I don't see myself choosing United again if other options are available. My flight back to LA had ATC off the entire time due the Captain - since it's up to him to turn it on and off. So you cannot count on always having ATC when flying with UA.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Remember either ATC or Pilots are correct all the time. For flying into what we call "Uncontrolled Airspace" we rely on other pilots telling each other what they're doing. We can request different things from ATC if we're not happy with what instructions they've asked us to conduct.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Yeah lets hope I do. Simply because I don't want to judge UA on that config. I definitely wont book with them again, should of booked ANZ and paid the extra cost. Not saying UA are all bad though just ANZ are definitely better on this route. Let's see on the return! Thank you.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
Thomas: Yeah I do apologise as I missed a lot of the Sunset/Sunrise due to Flight Attendants bugging everyone to shut the blinds. This had the very, very old United cabin with old TV's - so I was hardly looking at it myself. Thank you!
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
No that's what the 777's gear sounds like. The hydraulic noises are extremely evident on approach when the gear is extended. If our landing gear blowed then the title of this video would be something along the lines of "Emergency Take-off + Landing".
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Ha yeah long flight for them. When I went up to the flight deck I was expecting to be welcomed by some truly grumpy gits (I'd understand why though). Got a bit of a smug look from the Captain as he walked out but FO was extremely welcoming.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Virgin have gone down hill massively. I can relate to everything you said. If you want to do this route go Air New Zealand, best flights I've had yet. United have gone down hill also since their merge, however their IFE has improved, better than VS anyway.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Because it's good situational awareness to know what everyone else is doing. ATC isn't 'hard' one bit, especially for these guys that come on frequency as they're all experienced. It's only hard when you're trying to get a SELCAL from Mumbai Center ha!
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Cheers. All the raw files were around 15GB. Once put in vegas, edited and rendered it came out a little over 4GB. Took 9 hours to upload! UK Internet sucks, at least what my Sister has ha. Around 15 Down and 0.8 up? In the US I get 5 Up and average 16 Down!

Hmmm, they've changed slightly. The crew are nice, friendly and definitely look after you. But not as good as before, food gone down hill too. But not all Aircraft are refurbished, until they're all done I won't consider booking again. Prefer'd ANZ though..

I flew VS the first time I went out to LAX. Wasn't an all bad flight I guess. Their IFE is bloody awful! I wouldn't choose to fly with them tomorrow though. Tokyo Narita only has a couple of operators from Heathrow I think.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 12 лет назад
Yes, they're seated for departure - not taxy! The one behind me sat down just as we lined up and sat down for landing on short finals. However some airlines like ANZ are strict and their FA's are sat down mid push.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
Because it's simply not needed. The Ailerons on the wings raise very little on the 777 during flight (besides speedbrakes deploying) The flaperon provides the greatest angles (High and Low) for banking.
@airbxnee
@airbxnee 11 лет назад
"Why it cost only about an hour" - no idea why you said cost. It's not literally the full flight!!! It just implies it has all the main parts included such as departure, cruise and landing.

Thanks. By full flight - it implies it includes all stages of flight, i.e Push,Departure,Cruise,Approach,Landing. It never meant to imply it's the full eleven hours - who'd do that anyway ha.

Most people that do that get "All electrical equipment must be switched off until the seatbelt sign is turned off". It depends on the Cabin Crew, some are strict and some simply don't care.

I've not flown with the 3-3-3 on UA only 2-5-2. Hopefully I get the new cabin 3-3-3 on the way back then I'll say! Had 3-3-3 on ANZ 77W and liked it! More spaced out.

Next flight video should be early next year. Likely ANZ LAX-LHR, I have lots and lots of Europe spotting trips planned throughout 2013! Stay tuned..
