With BSA Ditching the 'Boy' from Boy Scouts, Trail Life USA Offers Traditional Alternative

After more than a century, the Boy Scouts of America is changing its name to become a more "inclusive" organization several years after welcoming girls and gay boys into its scouting program.
The Texas-based organization is dropping "Boys" from its title to become Scouting America - after holding its namesake for the last 114 years - to shed its image roiled in bankruptcy and sexual abuse claims.
The rebranding effort is a major shift for the organization that exclusively started for boys aged 11 to 15 and aimed to develop "good citizenship, chivalrous behavior, and skill in various outdoor activities."

We love Trail Life! As a mom, it’s wonderful to have men teaching these boys, which they don’t really have in school or Sunday school. Boys need both men and women speaking into their lives. Praise God for Trail Life!!!!

Boy scout of America here, and I'm sorry we failed you. 1980's to 90's, we had to deal with a lot. People abusing the program to fast track their kids to military service. Using the program to go tax exempt. And woman protest bhtch groups attacking us . . It was tradition in my family to be a Scout. All my church was Scouts. But 90's, Two women wanted their daughter to be a 12 and a half year old eagle scout. They both went to the military for jail.. . I (Crow Bar) didn't mind a girl being in boy scouts. I wish i would have put up a bigger fight.. I'm Sorry. . I was a cub in 1981. Fried Ham🫡

Went to a meeting when son would be transitioning from Webelos. Hubby still not impressed. He didn’t like that there wasn’t a boy leader. In fact, our son just stopped his Patrol Leader term and is getting Eagle Scout this summer. I hope Trail Life continues, but perhaps some tweaks could be made.

The Girl Scouts became pro abortion back in the early ‘90s. Once I learned that some of the cookie 🍪 $$$ was going to PP, I stopped buying. This might be one of the reasons for co-ed/div. BSA, as the BSA remained socially conservative until 2013. The ironic thing is that historically, Cub Scout den mothers had to actually be mothers originally. The Sea Scouts became co-ed in the ‘70’s. The Venturing/Exploring high adventure program for ages 14-21 was created to be co-ed.

It has nothing to do with “these days“. Only thing with the current day is now there’s not so much shame that kids will speak out. Plus social media spreads the story far and wide. I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t do background checks, if they just trust in God to handle it. And if a boy is molested and doesn’t immediately feel secure in reporting it, my guess is he would be less likely to report it because he would feel like he committed a sin.

This is a market that will continue to grow. So many kids have nothing to do now and none of them play outside. It’s good that there is a religious focused scout club opposed to the liberal scout programs, but hopefully there will be one that falls in between that’s just focused on scouting and being a good person but without the religious aspect as well the extra gender aspects.

@LOCKIE455 Nowadays boys can be nurses, stay at home dads, and nurturing and caring. Girls can grow up to be soldiers, construction workers, and politicians, businesswomen etc. So it kinda de-necessitates the rigid roles indoctrinated by separating them. Also. Is it not HEALTHY for the sexes to mingle and work together, for friendships and comradery from early age ? Prepares them for later family life, when they become fathers and husbands with wifes & daughters. But nobody is saying "Trails" has to do that. They're a private Org. Can do what they want which is fine. My opinion is just that Scouts is superior is all.

@thetruthhurts131 The Boy Scouts and Girl Scout program are both very different. From what little I know, girl scouts just sell cookies, make crafts, and learn how to be good citizens. Those are all good things but not at all as fun as boy scouts(in my opinion). In Boy Scouts, you go camping learn survival skill. There's lots of challenging merit badges to earn. And of course there's the achievement of making Eagle scout rank. I just feel like overall Boy Scouts is more challenging and rewarding than anything in Girl Scouts.

For one this isn't Catholic, secondly BSA has had over 82,000 sexual assaults, and thirdly laughing about it is insensitive to survivors. I share your concerns that this organization could become really perverse really quickly but right now it does look like a safer alternative.

I have heard of your group for years and have incouraged parents to send their children to it. I also heard of the girls group. The church of the Nazarene has Caravan and the Baptist have a group. Find a Christian group!!

What is she talking about? I was in gorl scouts in the early 90s and the oath never mentioned god. This cry for the blending of church and state is dangerous and sad😢

Yes same, I'm confused, since when was this a religious cult to snag children? So wrong to bring religion into a group about nature, god is not nature. Nature is fact, god is faith and theory.

Don’t know about Girl Scouts motto but the Boy Scouts motto did mention God as it was originally based on living a Godly life and honoring God.

Not true. I was a Girl Scout from the late 80s until 1998 and it was always "on my honor, i will try, to serve God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout law!"
