Recently, the world lost a true ground breaking legend. Actress, singer Diahann Carroll enjoyed a long career on stage and television. Her early musicals included "House Of Flowers" and "No Strings" for which she won a Tony Award. Her early films include "Carmen Jones" (1954) and "Porgy and Bess" (1959) and "Paris Blues" (1961). In the 60s, she starred on a ground breaking television show called "Julia" which featured her as a black woman in a non stereotypical role. She was also the first black woman to win a Tony Award for her role in "No Strings". Of course, most people are familiar with her as Dominique Deveraux from the 80s T.V. show "Dynasty". “With One Look” was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Don Black and Christopher Hampton for the 1993 musical “Sunset Boulevard”. In 1996, Diahann Carroll starred as Norma Desmond in the Canadian production of “Sunset Boulevard”. I was lucky enough to see the show in Toronto and casting Carroll in the part was pure genius. A reclusive, black silent film star from the 1920s? Who would have thought it. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments.
