The units are made up of men from the French and British armies and they cross from France into the newly invaded formerly neutral countries of the lowlands watched by border officials and small groups of people.

They are mostly on foot however some travel on carts, in old vehicles and on the backs of old lorries, they are all carrying or pushing on hand carts as many of their belongings as they were able to carry.
