I was once offerd Actuary at Wits(Got 91% in MATH),I had Passion for numbers and still do but I ended up taking on Engineering(Electrical and Chemical)and it was a nightmare, ended up dropping out and taking on CA at UJ and where I was both academically and financially excluded in my final year.Took a Gap year because of COVID and went to UNISA and was denied credits for some modules.Last year I was doing my final year in BCompt Financial Accounting and failed one module, currently repeating it... To everyone reading this,I wish you all the best and remember that our stories are unique but all carry an element of triumph in them. God Bless....❤
Great initiative. I listened to it with my grade 12 daughter who is already busy applying to universities. I laughed because she took me back many moons ago when I failed my Statistics tests in the beginning to a point where the lecturer asked me why I was doing it😂😂 But at least it was not 5%😂😂😂 Laughing at your failure is actually a strength on its own, as long as you learn from it, which is the case here.
She is right, job shadowing is very important. I would actually recommend that matriculants take a gap year after matric just to rest and to really look around. Especially the hard working, high performing ones. The fatigue that sets in when you are a varsity student who is already tired from high school can ruin your morale. I wanted to do Medicine, did BSc at Wits, went to work in a clinical trials and diagnostics laboratory as I was planning to go back to school for medicine, but the lab showed me that medicine is not for me. You don't wanna do a job you are gonna hate the rest of your life just cuz you spent 5-6 years studying it while wasting money. Take the gap year. you need it more than you think.
Bro, literally me 😭 people's marks usually drop on first year because they really needed a break but didn't get one or never considered it because of peer pressure and the pressure to become the bread winner or the feeling of wanting to secure a future at a young age🙌🏾 I know students that didn't do very well in high school which took a gap year and ended up being one of the best students in Uni, and i mean students who get 90+ average
It`s a varsity thing to get 0% and the 10%. No one can say they have been to university and not have failed a test or an assignment. You may go out and ask you`ll see what I`m talking about.
To be honest with you gift, I didn't want to subscribe but I ended up subscribing because I just realised other people have far worse experiences than mine and this is so motivational❤
Wow now wish to do Actuarial Sciences even if I don't know what do Actuarial Sciences really do ❤❤ you have inspired me to do it and leave Architect..... I'm so proud of you young lady
"A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle". Fail forward. So proud of this young lady and everyone on the comments going through it (including meeeeee). It will work out bakwethu.
When I was in Secondary school I wanted to be a CA ,then when I was doing Matric I became interested in Electrical Engineering not because I loved it but because someone was doing it and always explaining about it during holidays when he was at home. So I applied for Electrical Engineering at CUT and BAcc at UFS unfortunately UFS denied me to register because I had problems with NSFAS application as for CUT I didn't submit my Statement of Results then they ended up rejecting my application. I took a half gap year ,in April CUT opened applications for Second semester for Electrical Engineering, I applied got accepted and registered. In 2019 I found that I am in the wrong course it was just a peer pressure 😂...I dropped and applied for Accounting Degree at same institution ,then my uncle influenced me to continue with Electrical Engineering in 2020 😂😂😂,Still I got no interest on it and I kept failing until I got financially excluded...then I stayed home from 2022 to 2023.This year I am studying BEd in Physical Sciences and Mathematics at UNISA which is what I have been running away from, only to find out that this is my calling and passion 🤣🤣🤣 I have figured it out last year when I was working as an EA ,there was a time whereby a teacher wasn't available I was given a class to supervise and some teachers suddenly seen me and asked me why don't I just go and study Education and stop wasting my time. Now I am settled and happy even though the work load is high but for the fact that I ventured into my passion I am grateful. 🎉 What I can say is that figure out who you are, then you will get the idea of career path that you should take.
@@Uayandaaa I felt pressured , but now I made peace with myself, I forgave myself even though it's not that easy, because all my friends have graduated. 🙃
Bruh this resonates with me so much, I still don't fully know what I want and I have the urge to change time and time again because I don't even like what I'm studying now.
@@Thegirlsyoko you need to realize that life is not about what you want, more especially when it comes to careers. You might be passionate about fishing, but if your passion is not demanded in the marketplace, it will not help you.
I used to respect actuarial science but after realising that the actuarial science students don't do any coding ay my respect for that field goes to the negative. I think in the future WITS should put some coding basics to the course to make the course robust. I am a self taught coder, electrical engineer, Scientist.........
hi gift plz interview someone who is getting distinctions in actuarial science so we can be motivated differently the is that student who perfoms very well❤
I don't know what high school was teaching us because when you get to tertiary level it's like you are seeing a new thing, you can be a top achiever in high school but come to tertiary level and you will see😅😅😢by the way I studied architecture at AIE private college in midrand I have NQF6 but I couldn't go further 2 university to do my NQF7 because of finance, but now i have N6 in mechanical engineering I did it a EWC. So I'm busy with an apprenticeship. School will be the end of us but I really love the challenges of it😅😅🎉
Hi Gift...❤Your videos are informing us more of the things we didnt know. Please can you interview and Electrical and electronics engineering student at UJ Apk
Hey gift how do you have the time to do such content? And is it nir expensive for you to be constantly moving to these different universities? Love your content btw 😊
Hi Gift, i need your help. I'm a grade 10 student doing sciences, I'm currently researching about good careers i can pursue but can't find one. How can i do a proper research about science careers?
A good thing about science subject is the fact that they don't limit you. You can basically study anything always remember that. University is a very different environment don't worry that you have no background of maybe commerce meaning you will struggle. Start visiting University websites and download their year books they will show all causes and start Googling those that interest.
If you are doing maths and physical sciences you can check 1. Engineering (agricultural, civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, computer etc) 2. Food science 3. Veterinary science 4. Geoinformatics (GIS) 5. Entomology 6. Bachelor of accounting science 7. Data Science 8. Actuarial science With science you can go to any field, sky is the limit
Chomi. Why are you lying? In the first semester; if you fail to get 60% for financial maths ,stats & calculus - they send you a risky learner notice/encourage you to leave actsci/reapply for something that YOU really love. In the second semester, if you fail to get 60%+ in financial maths & Stats ,they drop you to Quantitative risk management.
you don't need it to get accepted for the course , but its better to do accounting in high school because u will have a accounting module so having the high school accounting as a foundation is good
