Will it be a quick event or will it be from a typhoon that leaves low labs flooded for months? Is it man made or a natural event we can stop? There will be a flood somewhere at some point, somewhere. The last one legit happened in one of my old group's DnD 3.5 games. BBEG literally at death's door, our paladin is about to roll to attack on a +5 Smite with his Holy Avenger, but our cleric says word for word 'If you kill him, you'll be better the monster than he was! You'll forsake the code of your oath to forgive those that did you wrong!'. Paladin rolled a nat 20, then proceeded to beat the cleric to death, then brought the cleric back to life and told them 'If you wanted a demonstration of what I would have done to him if he truly was irredeemable, then you just got it.' The cleric then rage quit and left our group.
