Wk38 BOAT!!!! Selling a boat in this market every boat owner wanting to sell should watch this video

Week 38 Every boat owner and every boat broker should watch this video when advertising a turn key boat ready to sell in todays market. Boat buying should be easy but only when you know what your looking at. Sellers and brokers don’t always tell the truth when listing boats, and if you get a 76 page survey back you should pay attention to what the survey is telling you about the boat.

Just walked away from a 83 Kadey Krogen in Florida for many of these reasons. Turn key and meticulous maintained... NOT. It had been surveyed just 2 weeks prior. Too many owners think they got gold and want way over BUC. A good surveyor won't miss a thing ...and advise you to the reality of the vessel.

Yes I agree 1000% so many people just think they need a boat even after they see the survey and still buy it for too much money. 😂👍🏻❤️

Couldnt agree with you more on this subject. Turnkey means every system functions as it should and is in good working order, period. Project boats should never be reffered to as such.

I'm with you. And the 'brokers' don't do anything differently. You ask for info before you spend 'go look' money and get ignored.

Yes it’s tough market, most brokers don’t care LOL 😂

Great vid Paul! I have two thoughts to add regarding the purchase of any boat. First, buyers need to remember that even brand new boats will have issues, that’s why they always have “Shake down” cruises to identify what’s not working after leaving the factory. Any used boat over five years old is going to have even more issues, especially if they are saltwater boats. If a boat is ten years old or older, assume major systems will need to be addressed no matter how much the seller claims “It was just serviced!” The operative word for all boat buyers is Caveat Emptor! Buyer beware! My second thought is if at all possible, buy local, meaning if you cannot reasonably drive to the boat to look it over before surveying and making an offer, you will probably end up spending money (maybe in the thousands of $$$) on a boat that you will be walking away from. That’s the reality of attempting to buy a used boat that you have not personally seen first. Finally, as the buyer, it’s your money! Be ready to negotiate the costs of systems that are subpar or not working at all. Be patient, meaning you may have to look at a lot of pigs before finding your “Forever” boat. And most important of all, be prepared to walk away if the boat needs work you are not prepared to do to bring it to your standards!

If the battery is dead it would make me wonder what else in big ticket items were not taken care of! The bottom line is just say it like it is so people make informed decisions. I remember being mad a long time ago when I found a car a hour drive away that I was looking for. My question was anything wrong with this car before I drive and look at it. No, it fine. The right side of the car was wrecked. They started coming down on the price as I was walking away and I kept walking.

Great video. Seems like there are some boats on the market that were built in let's say 1984. If the boat was refit in 2015 the owner then thinks the boat is from the year 2015 and prices it accordingly. But the bank says it's still a 1984 boat.

The problem is you are dealing in the grief market. There are only 2 types of old boats. By far the fewest in number is a much loved vessel that has been meticulously maintained. By far the majority are heaps that have been owned by a series of people who thought let’s go boating I’ve got 50, 100, 150 grand. They mostly have no idea about boats and even less of an idea or the motivation or finances to service and maintain them.

My new boat, the current owner had everything serviced and even rebuilt the generator from the ground up. He told me he wanted someone to be able to just step on and enjoy her. I had no problem offering full asking price due to the work he did BEFORE the listing and the survey. That’s the way a boat SHOULD be sold.
@NoRegretsLifestyle
@NoRegretsLifestyle 11 месяцев назад
Yes this does happen, I just delivered one the same way, it was so refreshing to get on a boat drive it 300 miles with 0 problems. When I got to the marina I thanked the previous owner for maintaining and loving his boat. ❤️👍🏻😎

The idea of a 'turnkey' second hand boat is amusing in of itself. I went through two other boats before I got my 'forever' boat, and in the end expected to spend at least 25% of the purchase price on things even the surveyor didn't turn up. Add to that another at least 8% of the purchase price per year in both preventative and actual maintenance. My boat is 'turnkey' to me, but that is because she gets a quick weekly runup by my mechanic, and that generates at least one squawk every few months that needs to be addressed. Even then, I will come back from a trip with a list of niggles that need to be looked at. Not sure there is a solution except talk in depth with the owner not the broker before you commit to an inspection. You can generally get a good idea of what you are dealing with from that conversation.

Too many clowns, who never should be boat owners, think that they can sell their POS "baby" (that they don't know how to maintain) like it's a house and just keeps appreciating. You can get some of our money back for recent upgrades, but not maintenance items. You can't charge extra because you replaced a leaking tank or a bad bilge pump. Thanks Captain Paul!
