LOL. "My lights just changed because it's 10:00" - right during your demo. But the funny part, its not the only video where that happened on you! Hahah! I love it. Also btw, great info, love your WLED videos.
this just syncs multiple controllers so when you play an effect on the master it plays the same effect on all of the other synced controllers, this is cool but old news. How do you get all the controllers to sync as one continuous strip? i.e. Say you have 3 controllers and you play an effect on the master (first controller), can the effect play through the first controller and flow into the second and then the third, so the three controllers (or up to 10 on an esp32, right?) behave as one continuous strip, is this possible??
No it's not, you might be able to make it work on a few effects but it won't work for all. You won't get that perfect streaming effect from one controller to the next. Any time we have multiple controllers they are always on a different area of the house or a garage so it's never an issue.
Is there a way to sync say 3 out of 5 controllers. I have a controller that controls my garage lights, one for my deck lights and one for the porch. My other two are for holiday displays ones a snowman and another a tree. I was the garage porch and deck lights to sync but not the snowman and tree.
If you go to the user interface screen, you can uncheck the box that tells the controller to receive commands from other controllers. do that on the controllers that you don't want synced.
Thank you! How about if your MAIN (for synching) is Sound Reactive... Would it work if the main reacts to music and all the other two (regular ESP32) react to the music through the synch?
good question, I would think that it would. If your using say ledfx you would set up both controllers in ledfx so it would cast to both. But if using a sound reactive chip in one controller and syncing that to other controllers should also work. I don't have a sound reactive chip to test it, I've only used ledfx.
Yess it works! The sound reactive does not need to have leds, only a mic setup and then send the effect to the slaves. Slaves setup by ip and have receive only, master send only and define the group for sync
I would have set the slaves to a fixed ip and define them in the sync targets. Also set the slaves to receive and the master to send, just to make sure they only receive from the right controller
Very true, that would likely help. This video was the only time it has ever given me an issue funny enough. I have my master set on the timer and it turns my other 2 controllers on every night and hasn't missed a beat yet.
Gave you thumbs up. Im new to wled lighting. I have quick question i f you dont mind. How many esp 32 controllers can the app sync? Is 3 the max limit or can I get more?
Hey, thanks for the thumbs up. You can do more than 3, I've done 5 before. I think it's more depends on how many your router can handle. I have to test a bunch of controllers today I'll see how many I can sync together and let you know.
Hey, not by default it won't, but if you go into the sync settings and check the box beside receive "segment options" on the controller you want to receive the command it will change the segments to match the master controller.
@@showhomelighting5840do you mean for example if you had 3 controllers each controlling 5 segments you could have a chase from 1st 5 segment through 2nd 5 segments and ending on last 5 segments?
Your videos are great. I’m having an issue where the playlist ( Christmas playlist 2 presets) plays for about an hour then drops the list and goes ludicrous speed dropping presets.
I would try the WLED web installer next time, I have had issues flashing ESP 32s with ESP home flasher. Or seeing as you already have it installed, do an OTA update with the same bin file you flashed it with and see if that makes a difference. I have had issues with presets disappearing and I've done an update with the same bin file and the issue never happened again.
This video accurately shows how poorly the sync feature works lol. I have the same issue all the time, seems to be worse lately. I was hoping this video was another way.
Haha sorry, the problem is that it only sends out the single out once to the other controllers, would be nice if it sent it once and then again 2 seconds later. Or got a confirmation from the other controllers that the change was made then if there is no confirmation then the change is sent again. 🤷🏻♂️
Try again! Make sure everything is going to work before you push the RECORD video button. Jumping around as you guess at what's wrong is too confusing.
That was my second attempt, you should have seen how bad the first one was! sorry it was so hard to follow it's just the reality that things don't always work the way they are supposed to.
I'm afraid this video is a waste of time. Doesn't show at all how to configure the sync feature. 98% of the video is a guy trying to work out why his lights don't work..
Haha well you're not wrong. Worked fine until I hit play and tried to record it. It's time to make a better one and take this one down I'm not happy with it either.
